Abstract

Abstract: This paper extends the previous study of Debra R Comer and Vega publish at Journal of business ethics in 2008, which investigated 506 students representing eight business schools throughout the United States. Recent study tried to investigate more, in case to Indonesia and Taiwan context. The present study is aimed at finding out whether personal ethical threshold (TEP) applies to Indonesian and Taiwanese students. A total of 545 students from Indonesia and Taiwan were involved in the data collection. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used for factor loading and six fit models were used for measurement of overall fits. Research findings indicate that (1) school status has correlation with ethical thresholds; (2) for Taiwanese students, gender correlates significantly (r. = …, p. = …); and the over-all fit of model is fair (stat).Keywords: personal ethical threshold (TEP), individualist cultures, collective cultures, glocalization, business ethics, regional contexts, moral intensity

Abstract

This study was aimed at determining 1) the relationship between the familyculture and the children interactive karaoke multimedia product development needs, and 2) the needs level of the multimedia interactive karaoke for early childhood to improve their language skills. This study was a survey involving early childhood teachers and parents in Bantul Regency, Kulon Progo Regency, and Yogyakarta City using purposive sampling to obtain the respondents. Data were collected by means of questionnaires, observation sheets, and interview sheets. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results showed that 88% of early childhood teachers and 79% of early chilhood parents agreed to the need of the development of multimedia computers to improve early childhood’s language skills. Children’s language abilities are infl uenced by their habits in listening, speaking, singing, and also drawing. The facilities and infrastructure availability also affect the children’s language abilities. Family culture is not only a structure, but also an interaction and communication pattern between a family component, especially the children-parent relationship. The most infl uencing factor that affects a family culure is the family socio-economic factors. A good-enough economic families are likely to have a good literate culture which will affect the children’s language ability, because it is supported by a good access to the facilities

Abstract

This research aims at revealing how the women leadership profiles in Yogyakarta Special Province, including their ability to select their own team, the ability to cooperate, the ability to solve the problem, encouraging the enthusiasm of working, to maintain positive working culture and do synergy, which all of them figure someones leadership IQ. This research is a survey research of women leaders who have joined to an association namely Badan Kerjasama Organisasi Wanita Propinsi Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (BKOW-Yogyakarta Special Province). Then the researcher took the sample randomly to the 35 people. They answered questionnaire, which refers to Murphy measurer, which has been tested and proven reliable. The collected data was analyzed using percentage, descriptive analysis and cross tabulation. The research shows that the ability as an elector to cooperate, to solve conflict, to encourage enthusiasm of working, to maintain positive culture of working, and do synergy is in the average. The research shows that 20% of respondents have high leadership IQ, 45.7%, have average leadership IQ and 34. 3% have low leadership IQ. It means that 65% the leadership IQ of women respondents in this research is in a high and average rate. Meanwhile, the low rate is 35%. This fact leads us to intensively pay attention upon the ability of women leadership by conducting an intensive and comprehensive training. Research shows that the leadership IQ of women is relatively mediocre. Therefore leadership training for women will be highly beneficial for them considering the roles they play

Abstract

Students are unique human beings. They are not always alike. As they have  different  backgrounds, interests, cultures, and learning dynamics, they learn differently. The Developing Countries Partnership students in YSU, Indo­ nesia come from different countries with different levels of Indonesian language competences. In order to get the reflection of students' personal  best learning style and the degree of individual progress from each learner s achievements, some steps need to be applied in differentiated instructions. While teachers need to facilitate and coach students in learning, this  instruction will enable the students to actively participate in learning, producing, and assessing their own learning. The result shows there is only one fully autonomous student; two semi­ autonomous students, one introvert who does not like working in group, and one extrovert; and three other dependent students who always need Google translation to help them in doing their tasks.   Keywords:  different learner, differentiated instruction

Abstract

Abstract:  The study aimed at finding  out the impact of learning-strategy training in the instructionalprocess. English Department students of semester3 and 5 were given training in learning-strategy skills in a regular 16-week semester program. SILL (Oxford, 2000), modifiedfor thepurpose of the study, was administered on the first  day of class. Group and individual students' learning strategy profiles were examined for follow-up action plans. Strategy skills were integrated in the instructional material and activities. Students assigned themselves to strategy groups, for  example. Compensation group, and practiced the assigned skills. Weekly reflections were written by students reporting theirprogress in the use oflearning strategies and in their language learning. At the end of the semester, SILL was given for  the second time for reflective comparisons. Findings indicated that students (1) became aware of their learning strategies, (2) were more prepared for  and concentrated on instructional tasks, (3) had more positive attitude towardsforeign-language learning, and (4) improved their language learning.Keywords: learning strategies, learning strategy profile,  learning strategy skills, learning strategy use, learning strategy training

Abstract

This study was aimed at investigating the language learning strategies(LLSs) employed by students of Indonesian as a foreign language (IFL) at YSU. The study was descriptive analytical. The participants were nine students granted the Darmasiswa (DS) scholarship who undertook their study at YSU. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed descriptive qualitatively. Findings of the study showed that (1) the compensation and social LLSs were the highest employed by the students and the memory strategy was the lowest, (2) female students took more od the affective strategy and male students took more of the metacognitive strategy, and (3) there was no infl uence of cultural or personal background and nor different level of Indonesian language profi ciency on the application of LLSs

Abstract

This study is aimed at knowing the social behaviors of mentally-retarded students in education learning. As a survey study, the research involves the use of interview and observation as data collection procedures. The subjects of the study are 34 mentally-retarded students. The data is analyzed in a qualitative descriptive manner. The finding shows that mentally-retarded students need intensive and continuous consultation and support for their social behaviors in the physical education learning. In order for these students to participate well in the learning-teaching interaction, it is important to show to them the practical importance and value of doing physical practice. The instructions for the physical practice tasks should be brief and clear, and there should be not more than one instruction at a time. The teacher needs to understand students characteristics and choose the appropriate learning approach.

Abstract

LMS is a well known teaching method of ICT in the world. As in many other countries, it is not familiar in Bangladesh. However, to make the country a "Digital Bangladesh ", it is necessary to introduce ICT by LMS from primary education. Primary education is the basic of all education systems, so if all the primary school children learn to use ICT in their learning, they will be able to make knowledge based society infuture. For Bangladesh, with nearly 15 million people (Cencus  Report:2011), it is hard to make ICT access in primary education. At the moment only a small number of university students get  this access. In this situation the researcher wants to give some ideas and recommendations for the primary school leaders of Bangladesh which are obtained from  an Indonesian school, SD Muhammadiyah Condongcatur. The researcher used participatory observation and interview methodfor this idea. By using this idea from SD Muhammadiyah Condongcatur, the researcher wants to give a new ideafor making an ICT- based child society in Bangladesh by simple learning management systems (SLMS). Abstract

This research aims to describe the development of an entrepreneurship literacy education model, the pioneering effort of business incubator   oriented to food security. Two of  the 83 locations as food insecure areas in all of Yogyakarta Special Province, were chosen as research locations. These two locations are Nglipar at Gunungkidul district  and Lendah at Kulonprogo district. Beside that, in the two locations was built Community Learning Center (CLC) to perform the private literacy which became the literacy education model oriented to food security. The data were collected through focus group discussion (FDG), observation, profound interview and documentation. The result indicated that the development of the private business literacy model with the CLC  as the facilitator could be developed through the education and training process. (a) For the two areas with the food insecurity, this development model means that group granary organization became a dynamic agent of literacy education program oriented to sustainability, integrating, and diversification which could motivate the community as a generator of social economic change. (b) the pioneer of group granary with gabah (unhulled paddy separated from the stalks) as a medium revitalized the ongoing formation group, togetherness, and saving or investing movement. (c) it became a group movement in anticipating the food insecurity such as lack of food situation, drought caused by long dry season

Abstract

This study aims to develop a model of competency assessment. The research population consisted of two subpopulations, namely (1) engineering and vocational education experts, machinery practice instructors, and industry practitioners, and (2) students of Industrial Engineering Vocational High Schools in Surakarta. The sample from the first subpopulation was selected using the purposive sampling technique and that from the second subpopulation was selected using the proportional random sampling technique. The data were collected through questionnaires, a paper-and-pencil test, and a performance test. The data were analyzed using the descriptive technique and the LISREL model analysis. The results show the following. First, the construct model consists of the learning style construct, personality construct, and competency construct. Second, there is a positive and significant relationship between students personality and learning style, students learning style and personality, students learning style and vocational competency, and there is a negative and significant relationship between students personality and vocational competency. The model of vocational competency development fits the empirical data. Third, the model of vocational competency assessment consists of three components, namely personality, learning style, and competency. The model is called the PLC model.
