Abstract

Purpose – The right assessment strategy can reduce the number of academic dishonesties during online learning in the pandemic era. Academic dishonesty is a problem considered normal but has a detrimental impact on the development of a nation. Therefore, instructors need to know the principles of assessment that can reduce the number of academic dishonesties in universities. Design/methods/approach – This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study technique. This literature comes from several online assessment books, articles, handbooks, and others. The procedure used in this study involves selecting a topic, developing themes, selecting problems, searching for literature in the database, and selecting and evaluating literature based on these problems. Findings – The results of this study are in the form of online learning assessment principles that can be applied in designing assessment activities. First, design a student-centered assessment that includes self-reflection. Second, design and include grading rubrics for assessing contributions to the discussion and assignments, projects, and the collaboration itself. Third, include collaborative assessment. Fourth, encourage students to develop skills in providing feedback. Fifth, use assessment techniques appropriate to the context and learning objectives. Sixth, design an assessment that is clear, easy to understand, and guaranteed success in the online environment. Seventh, ask students for input on how the assessment is carried out. Research implications – This study contributes to the development of literature regarding the online learning assessment process, especially in universities. Originality/value – Future research should be able to test these online learning assessment principles to find empirical evidence of their effectiveness.

Abstract

Purpose – This research aims to conduct an initial assessment of students' attitudes in high school, with a focus on Islamic education, which is one of the benchmarks in soft skills development activities. Design/methods/approach – This study uses research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) with three stages in it, namely the preliminary, development, and testing stages. To increase students' soft skills, an infographic-based Islamic Religious Education teaching material was designed in this study. Findings – According to preliminary research conducted at senior high schools in Surakarta with class XI subjects, Islamic learning does not provide opportunities for students to improve their soft skills. This is requiring the development of learning tools, one of which is infographic-based teaching materials, to assist in achieving the expected competencies. Research limitations – This study focuses on acquiring Islamic education in high school, with a focus on the limitations of development in teaching materials that affect students' ability to obtain competencies in the form of soft skills. Originality/value – A preliminary investigation into the development of teaching materials in Islamic education courses, namely for senior secondary school, was studied further in this study. The development of soft skills is one of the things that is actively supported in the development of character education in Indonesian schools.

Abstract

Purpose – This study intends to examine whether there is a difference in the level of religiosity between students with “niqab” and students without “niqab”. The discourse on wearing the “niqab”l is still a crucial problem in several educational institutions in Indonesia, including Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD). Design/methods/approach – This is quantitative research at the Ahmad Dahlan University Islamic Education Study Program with a random sampling technique. The data collection tool used was a questionnaire with a Likert scale of scale 4. The instrument was tested with validity, reliability, normality, and homogeneity tests. The data were then analyzed by using the T-test to test the hypothesis. Findings – The results showed that the level of religiosity of female students with “niqab” at Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) UAD was in the high category. This was evidenced by 33 respondents of students with “niqab” at PAI UAD. 23 subjects (69.6%) showed a high religiosity and ten subjects (30.3%) were in the medium category. The religiosity of students without “niqab” at PAI UAD was also in the high category, as shown by 33 respondents who are without “niqab” at PAI UAD. There were 26 subjects (78.7%) showing a high level of religiosity, and seven subjects (21.2%)were in the medium category. Research implications/limitations – The analysis results showed that there was no difference in the level of religiosity between students with “niqab’ and students without “niqab” at PAI UAD, as evidenced by the t count = 0.452 (sig < 0.05) then Ha was accepted, and Ho was rejected. Originality/value – There is no difference in the level of religiosity between students with “niqab” and students without “niqab” in PAI UAD. “Niqab” is not part of Islamic shari'a so it cannot always be associated with one's religious experience. The nature of religiosity cannot be established simply by wearing the “niqab” without looking at other religious dimensions.

Design/methods/approach – Thirteen participants of three types of Schools Providing Inclusive Education (SPIE) i.e., Sekolah Harapan (public), Sekolah Mulia (Islamic), and Sekolah Wijaya (private) in the Special Province of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta were selected purposively, and a qualitative case study was conducted using an in-depth interview to gather the data. Findings – All participants articulated inclusive education is a placement for students with special education needs and disabilities (SEND) in the general education system. All students with SEND were welcomed in Sekolah Harapan but were then labeled and pulled out to a resource room to be educated separately by a support teacher. In Sekolah Mulia, most students were visually impaired without support teacher provided to assist them. Teaching and learning were very minimal offered various strategies, media, and assessments; mirrored the special education model. Sekolah Wijaya, in contrast, implemented a more inclusive education model, no labeled was marked for students with SEND and promoted an inclusive climate through learning activities. Research limitation – The small number of participants meant that the findings cannot be generalized as the participants cannot be considered representatives of secondary schools in Yogyakarta or Indonesia. Originality/value – Teachers in three SPIE investigated are willing to promote inclusive education although the orthodoxy of special education philosophy still has been flavoring most of the teachers’ language in defining and practicing the inclusive concept.

The challenges and obstacles will be more complex. Methods -- The research method used was literature research. The data collection technique was documentation. The data were analyzed by using critically performed text analysis. Design/methods/approach – The research method used was literature research. The data collection technique was documentation. The data were analyzed by using critically performed text analysis. Findings – The results showed that Islamic education for the millennial generation is facing increasingly rapid technological developments. They are not affected by extreme groups in the name of Islam, and it is not easy to declare heresy against someone who has a different opinion. A preacher must be creative, and innovative to adapt with the developments of technology so that the millennial generation is interested in Islamic teaching. Research limitations – This study has limitations on the observed cases regarding the implementation of Islamic education and wasathiyah da'wah for the millennial generation. Islamic education that is not delivered properly may cause radical actions. Technology makes da’wah reach all circles. In the midst of the globalization revolution, it becomes an opportunity for preachers (da'i) to be more creative and innovative in conveying messages. In other words, da’wah activities should be improved, both in terms of supplies and facilities (tools/materials).
