Abstract

This study was intended to understand how the phenomenon of gender equity and reproductive rights in pesantren using the theoretical framework of attitude. The research wasconducted in a qualitative approach through a case study method. Sources of data consisted of 10 interviewed subjects, 18 FGD subjects, and survey of 327 subjects. Subjects were varyingfrom pesantren’s supervisor, teacher, manager and doctor of pesantren’s Community Health Center, and santri itself. Data was also obtained from the observation of the supervisors’behaviors and the pesantren’s environment. Subjects tended to agree in distinguishing the male and female gender role based on what’s happening, different from the religious teachingsthey learned which tended to be gender fair. Regarding with women reproductive cases, subjects tended to be gender biased based on the interpretation of religious texts although theyadmitted that it was hard to be manifested in behavior, example: prefering monogamous marriage, never beating women, and not promoting early marriage. Subjects agreed andunderstood that women had different, and yet more complex anatomical processes and functions, however their health service were just considered the same as men.

Abstract

The present study examined the effect of reciting Holy Qur’an toward short-term memory ability appearance from the change of the brain wave. Subjects of this study were four female students (n=4) from Gadjah Mada University with homogeneity of genders, age, thefrequencies of reciting Holy Qur’an, menstruation’s phase, timbre and ethnic groups. Subjects were divided randomly into two groups, i.e. experiment and control group. Each group wasrecorded with electroencephalograph (EEG) on their brain wave. The process of recording used monopolar method with placement of electrode 10-20 and the researcher give a free recall test.Either recording or free recall test is carried out twice, before and after execution and placebo. T-test result in experiment group from free recall test found significant are differences (t=-15,00; p<0.05) between before and after reciting the Holy Qur’an. T-test result in control group found that significantly not differences (t=-11,00; p>0,05) between before and afterplacebo effect. Hypotheses accepted i.e. there is significantly increasing in experiment group, before and after the execution. After the execution brain wave increased significantly in pointFp1, point Fp2 and point P4. In point Fp1,  ,  , and  significantly increased. In point Fp2, all of the wave significantly increased. In point P4, the wave increased were  ,  , and δ. Itmeans that when reciting Holy Qur’an, showed there is increased activity like thinking, emotionally and religion-related-activity or God.

Abstract

Disasters always occur without can be predicted precisely. The need to use community's strengths are very important component in new disaster-risk reduction effort. This study aims to find out the correlation between community resilience on long-termed community coping post-earthquake of May 26, 2006. Predictor variable in this study is community resilience, andthe criterium variable is long-termed community coping. The instruments used in this study consisted of Community Coping Scale is modification of the Community Well-Being Scaledeveloped by (Prawitasari et al., 2009; Prawitasari, 2011), and Community Resilience Scale developed by Researcher. This research was held in the earthquake affected areas in Klaten.Data were collected from 60 respondents (34 males and 26 females); age ranges from15-78 years old. Reliability test with Alpha Cronbach indicates both instruments were reliable(αCCS=0.930; αCRS=0.925). This study hypothesized that there is a correlation between community resilience and long-termed community coping post-earthquake. Pearson-ProductMoment Correlation Analysis was used to analyze the data. Result shows that there is a positive correlation between community resilience and long-termed community coping post-earthquake (r = 0.571, p < 0.05).

Abstract

Competition is a common phenomenon among adolescents, that shows the drives to express the ability, to compare self with others, and to strive to be the best. This study wasaimed to assess whether the engagement, sense of worth, and social competence can be the predictors of the emergence of competition in adolescents. Subjects were amounted to 232students, including the students from favorite and non-favorite junior and high school in the city of Yogyakarta and Gunungkidul. The instrument used were the engagement’ scale, senseof worth’ scale, social competence’ scale, and competition’ scale. The data then were analized using regression approach and also t-test for additional analysis. The results showed that therewas the influence of engagement, sense of worth, and social competence to the competition (F=65.274, p<0.01). Taken together anyway, engagement, sense of worth, and socialcompetence in adolescents can predict competition for 46.3% (R2=0.463). Based on t-test as an additional analysis of the obtained results that there is a difference in competition betweenfavorite and non-favorite schools. Competition in non-favorite schools is higher (t=–2.752, p<0.01) than favorite ones. In addition, there is a difference of social competence between theschool in Gunungkidul and Yogyakarta. Social competence of students in Gunungkidul is higher than students in Yogyakarta (t=–2.083, p<0.05). Another result shows that competitionamong the students in favorite schools is lower than in non-favorites ones (t=–2.752, p<0.01). Especially for high school students, the result showed that high school students' socialcompetence in Gunungkidul is higher than in Yogyakarta (t=–3.966, p<0.05) and social competence of favorite high school students are lower than non-favorite high school students.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to test conceptual model that showed the role of life skills to mental health. Participants of this study was teachers (N=260) from various provinces in Indonesia who are following event by Diknas in Jakarta. Life skills was measured by Life Skills Scale that consist six life skill dimensions, while mental health was measured by the Life Satisfaction Scale and Quality of Life Scale. Those measurement model each variables was tested by measurement model of Structural Equation Model/SEM that produces the fit model (χ2=23.20; p>0:05 and χ2=11.54; p>0.05). Analysis using SEM showed that model has goodness fit indices (χ2=52.13 p>0.05). The role of life skills that includes six dimensions:emotional skills, social skills, self-esteem, communication, critical thinking and problem solving are able to predict individual mental health. These results provide strong support tothe activities of mental health improvement of individuals through life skills programs.

Abstract

Abstract

The new paradigm of learning has placed the students to participate actively in the learning process. One of the consequence is that the learning process must use the variative methods, not only about the transfer of knowledge from teacher to students. This research isaimed to test the impact of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) to the achievement of Psychology Faculty students in learning Statistics. It is assumesed that the numerical abilityhas a positive correlation to the achievement in studying statistics. So, the respondents numerical ability variabel is controlled using statistics. This research used experiment with Alternative Treatment Posttest Only With Nonequivalent Group Design. Cluster sampling was used to get two of four parallel classes ofStatistics. One class was used randomly as the class taught using TAI and the other class as the control group using conventional teaching method. The numerical ability of the twogroups was tested before getting a different treatment. The teaching with different method was conducted in five sessions. The numerical ability of respondents was tested after the treatment given to the two groups. The mid semester test score of the two groups were compared to the one way covariance analysis with the numerical ability as the covariable. The results indicates that Fscore of the the two groups 10.459, p<0.01. Residual Mean of study achievement for experiment group = 6.997 and control group = 5.464. The result indicates the significant correlation between the numericalal ability and study achievement in statistics (F regression = 43.483, p<0.01 and partial eta squared = 0.316).It can be concluded that there is a significant difference of achievement in studying statistics between the group of students who was taught with Team Assisted Individualizationand with conventional teaching method. The group of students who was taught with Team Assisted Individualization has higher mean score compared to the group taught using the conventional method.
