Abstract

This research aims to assess the environmental factors that affect the abundance of scales populations on the apple crop. The study was conducted in July 2012 to January 2013. The study was conducted at two sites with different altitude. Bumiaji village's altitude is ±900 m and Tulungrejo village's altitude is ±1,515 m asl. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to determine the environmental factors that affect the abundance of scales populations on the apple crop. Based on the results of the regression analysis, air temperature and humidity affect the abundance of scales populations in Binangun while rainfall and long solar radiation have no effect. Scales population abundance of the apple crop in Binangun was influenced by air temperature and humidity one week before. Based on the results of the regression analysis, air temperature, air humidity and rainfall affect the abun dance of scales population in Tulungrejo while long solar radiation has no effect. Scales population abundance ofthe apple crop in Tulungrejo was affected by air temperature two weeks before, while humidity and rainfall were affected one week before. The higher air temperature scales, flea population level will increase. And the higherrelative humidity, scales population levels will increase.

Abstract

The hydrological performance of individual tree can be estimated by measuring the stem flow, throughfall and rainfall interception. Water distribution through tree canopy is affected by tree architectural model and another tree’s morphology. This research was done in order to predict the most appropriate tree species that is suitable on soil and water conservation. This research was conducted in Purwodadi Botanic Garden during the rainy season on January 2014 to March 2015, in order to examine the interception rate, throughfall and stemflow on some selected local plants i.e Syzygium polyanthum, Diospyros blancoi, Schleichera oleosa, Madhuca longifolia, and Canarium vulgare. Other observation that support the data, was also measured i.e. Leaf Area Index (LAI), crown depth, leaf size, Diameter of Breast Height (DBH), and height of tree on each species. Results showed that Diospyros blancoi has the highest interception value, which is 53 %, followed by C. vulgare 47.4%, S. oleosa 46.9 %, M. longifolia 38.6%, and S. polyanthum 35.6% respectively. Under the heavy rain, D. blancoi, which has the highest LAI value, also showed the best performance in the rainfall interception value and showed significantly different among others. Canopy interception and stem flow is related to rainfall, the higher the rainfall, the higher the throughfall and the stemflow among species. Morphology on each species, gives the different effect on their partitioning rainfall value.

Abstract

Hylarana chalconota is a cryptic species of frog endemic to Java Island . This species is small with long legs, and brown skin. The Snout-Vent Length (SVL) ranges between 30-40 mm for male and 45-65 mm for female. Reports the existence of this species in State University of Malang, which was not found in 1995. To reveal the haplotype diversity of COI gene in this species, we analyzed Cytochrome-c oxidase subunit-1 (COI) sequences of both samples. The both samples had 604 bp and 574 bp fragment length, respectively. These fragments showed polymorphism; with mutation position in sites 104, 105, and 124. Based on this result, we suggest that the two samples share a different haplotypes, proposed as UM1 and UM2

Abstract

Ceplukan (Physalis minima L.) has long been used to treat various conditions in traditional medicine. This study aims to demonstrate the anxiolytic effects of Methanol Extract of Ceplukan Leaves (MECL) in the Elevated Plus Maze (EPM) test and correlate to IL-6 level of ovariectomized rat brain. Total of 24 Wistar rats were divided into six groups: one normal group, one group of 1 month ovariectomized (ovx), one group of 2 months ovx, three groups of 2 months ovx (each given with MECL 500; 1500 and 2500 mg/kg doses for 1 month). The anxiety-like behavior level was measured by EPM test. After EPM test, the brain was removed to measure level of IL-6 by ELISA. The data were processed and analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation. We found that the MECL-treated rats enter the opened-arm higher than the control rats. It indicates that the MECL-treated rats are less anxious than the control rats. The results also show the decreased of IL-6 level in MECL-treated rats.

Abstract

Relationship construction has a very important position in classification process for arranging taxonomy of organism. In the world of taxonomy, there are two the most familiar relationship diagram, cladogram and phenogram. In every construction activity, a researcher is always facing character state data from taxa that becomes components of the diagram. Calculation that is used for construction is often incorporate iterative or repetitive process that needs time and precision. The existence of calculating tools that produces both text and graphical output are hopefully decrease time and error during construction. Basic algorithm that is used in calculation is for phylogenetic construction by Kluge and Farris in 1969,for phenetic construction using cluster analysis with slight modification. Basic common algorithm used in the software is by calculating two dimensional arrays of taxa x characters matrix and creating distance or similarity matrix. In more detail the program creates one dimensional array of taxonomical object and each object has some other one dimensional array containing data commonly exist in a taxonomic unit. The relationship between one object and theother are regulated by an object that created by class representing taxonomic tree. Cladogram is constructed by calculating nearest distance between each taxon (OTU) and creating one HTU in every bifurcation. Phenogram is constructed agglomeratively by searching highest similarity between taxon then grouped into new taxon. Program calculates numerical data after we do character scoring. Final result for each user may be different; this may be due to decision by user during construction process. This paper hopefully attracts people from systematic computation to develop further into open source software and multi-platform feature.

Abstract

Damdamma Jheel is a wetland of impressive potentials of harboring rich avian bio-diversity in the accompaniment of enhanced habitat reconstruction and improvement. It is located in the National Capital Region, nearby Sohana town in Gurgaon district in Haryana merely 45 Kms from Dhaula Kuan in New Delhi. At present, compared to Sultanpur National Park, it is confronting neglect. Considering its positive features of terrain, water sheet, it has the qualities of being a rich habitat for birds of all hues including the winter migratory birds. The present studies focus attention on its avian biodiversity as well as its own degraded form and structure. In all, 128 species of birds belonging to 15 orders and 41 families could be enlisted. Order Passeriformes is the predominant one having 54 species, followed by Charadriiformes (14 Species) and Ciconiiformes (12 Species). The prominent winter migratory birds observed from Damdamma Jheel include Asian Openbill Stork Anastomus oscitans, Eurasian Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia, Northern Shoveller Anas clypeata, Northern Pintail Anas acuta, Common Teal Anas crecca, Common Pochard Aythya ferina, Gadwall Anas strepera, Spot-billed Duck Anas poecilorhyncha, Spotted Redshank Tringa erythropus, Common Redshank Tringa tetanus, Common Greenshank Tringa nebularia, Kentish Plover Charadrius alexandrinus, White-tailed Lapwing Vanellus leucurus, Marsh Sandpiper Tringa stagnatilis, Wood Sandpiper Tringa glareola, Common Sandpiper Actitis hypoleucos, White Wagtail Motacilla alba and Yellow Wagtail Motacilla flava. The lake is suffering from water scarcity considering its capacity and potential to have more water. The periphery towards east is plagued by the growth of peats. The very fact that in October 2012, a large group of Openbill Stork (Nearly 70-80) has already arrived at Damdamma Lake since September-2012 indicates that it is the largest HARBOUR of Open-bill Stork in Haryana. Also, Eurasian Spoonbills were seen in a group 10-12, again the largest in Haryana. It is argued in this paper, that Damdamma is the pride lake of Haryana and prime harbor for uncommon winter migratory birds like Open-bill Stork and Eurasian Spoonbill must be the prime place for habitat reconstruction by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India in conjunction with Govt. of Haryana with the active contributions by WWF (India) to add to the might vastness of this lake an element of grace and glory so as to conserve the winter migratory birds during their sojourn in India. In addition, it will be one nodal point to include Sultanpur National Park, Badkhal Lake, Bhindawas and Keoladeo National Park as an eco-tourism rectangle with provision for night halt.

Abstract

Prevalence of tooth extraction or dental surgery was 48.5% of all dental care in Indonesia. Tooth extraction carries potential health risks and side effects such as pain, swelling, trismus and dysfunction of the oral cavity during recovery. Secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) is one of innate immunity proteins that can inhibit the activation of macrophages. We are expecting the provision of SLPI can decrease excessive inflammatory response in healing after tooth extraction. This study was to investigate the administration of SLPI on cellular expression of NF-Kβ and IL-1β on wound macrophages of Rattus novergicus post tooth extraction. The research design is in vivo experimental study. In total, 20 rats were randomly divided into four groups (each group n=5) and underwent tooth extraction on left incisor teeth of mandible. One of the groups did not receive SLPI administration (control group) and the socket was stitched after tooth extraction. Meanwhile, the remaining three groups (experimental groups) were given SLPI administration after tooth extraction with three different doses (0.1 µM, 0.5 µM and 2.5 µM, respectively). After SLPI administration, the socket of experimental groups was stitched. The effects of SLPI administration were evaluated by counting at the percentage of NF-Kβ translocation and the expression of expression of IL-1 in macrophages cells of the rat socket using immunohistochemistry analysis. The cellular expression of NF-Kβ and IL-1β were significantly decreased (p < 0.05) on groups with SLPI may decrease cellular expression of NF-Kβ and IL-1β on wound macrophages cells of rats post tooth extraction in a dosedependent manner.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to examine how to increase cross and self-pollination by solving incompatibility of sweet potato mechanism through sucrose giving on stigma and pollen nuclei checking. Sucrose in different concentration is giving to stigma. Stigma is excised and lubricated with sucrose before crossing and the pedicel is lubricated with 2,4D 100 ppm in lanolin. The result shows both varieties have stigma position longer than the anthers do. Papua Solosa has 94.7% anther dehiscence, 70.25% pollen viability, while MSU 03028-10 has 87.3% anther dehiscence and 87.84% pollen viability. Both of these varieties have receptive stigma. Sucrose level in compatible pollination is lower than in incompatible pollination. Sugar in 50 ppm concentrate can increase fruit setting in self-pollination of Papua Solosa variety from 0% to 70%, 0% to 60% in MSU 03028-10, and 10% to 90% in crossing of Papua Solosa>Keywords : Pollen Morphology, Sucrose Giving, Incompatibility of Sweet Potato

Abstract

The cyclic structure of ADTC5 (Ac-CDTPPVC-NH2) peptide is known has ability to modulate homo dimer E-cadherin interactions to form adherens junction at the intercellular junction.  The ability to inhibit E-cadherin interaction has become important to increase paracellular porosity in delivering drug molecules to the target cell. There are two types of ADTC5 state: opened-cyclic state (OCS) and closed-cyclic state (CCS). OCS of ADTC5 is affected by distance constraint and CCS is formed by disulfide bond from terminal cysteines through force restraint. The aim of this research is to investigate the inhibition activity of ADTC5 peptide upon E-cadherin. Here we used molecular docking and molecular dynamics approaches. The structure of ADTC5 peptide was generated by PyMOL program. GROMACS v4.5.5 was utilized to simulate molecular dynamics. The optimized ADTC5 molecule was placed in aqueous or polar condition at physiological pH. Furthermore, ADTC5 was docked with EC1-EC2 coupled domain of E-cadherin using AutoDock 4.2 and be refined using molecular dynamic (MD). The result showed that CCS ADTC5 peptide has stronger affinity and more stable interaction with EC1-EC2 coupled domain than the OCS one.
