Abstract

Humic substances (humus), allophanes and humus complexes are the soil component which have highly reactivity and give great contribution   on genesis and lead to presence  of specific chemical and physical properties of Andisols.  The study on humus, allophanes and humus complexes was conducted on Andisols in Tawangmangu Karanganyar District of Central Java and Bedugul, Tabanan District of Bali to observe the distribution of humus,  allophanes and humus complexes along the profile and the factor affected  its distribution. The result  showed  that the content of humus  complexes tend to decrease with the dept in accordance to the content of humus, on the contrary of the content of allophanes.  So the humus complexes are abundance on the upper layer whereas the allophanes on the lower layers of the profiles. By means of the regression calculation indicated  that both of the pH (H2O) of the soil and the content of humus are controlled the formation of humus complexes and I or allophanes along the profiles.

Abstract

Indonesia’s Tourism Law No. 10 of 2009 states that tourism development needs to integrate diversity, culture and nature uniqueness, and demands. As a popular tourist destination, Badung Regency (Bali, Indonesia) shows similar tourism development across its tourist attractions. Therefore, it is necessary to make a breakthrough in alternatives, including a tourist village. This study aimed to analyze the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), including data, standards, policies, technology, and human resources, to promote tourism villages in the area. The WebGIS-based Tourism Geoportal is a technology built to inform tourists, local communities, tourism associations, and local governments. The results showed that, as yet, the Badung Regency Government was not entirely ready to implement SDI to promote tourism villages. Overall, no standards and policies are governing SDI. In addition, the human resources are limited and not specially trained to organize and operate SDI. The available data are relatively complete but are missing metadata and lacking information on attribute data. Testing of the geoportal as a promotional tool for the tourism villages resulted in an agreement on the benefits of SDI to support the development of tourist villages and the importance of establishing local regulations and standards and improving the quality of human resources.

Abstract

Kudzu plantation (Pueraria phaseoloides) as legume cover crop is one of alternatives in coastal sandy land conservation. The crops are known to associate with a root nodule-forming bacteria (Rhizobium sp.) which give some benefits to nutrient cycling i.e. : atmospheric N2 fixing and play role as soil conditioner; soil Nitrogen enrichment; nutrient cycling; and increasing other nutrients availability. A research to study the isolation dan bacterial inoculum multiplication from wild kudzu root nodules, compatible isolates screening and selected isolates multiplication, and examining the form, amounts and most proper inoculum application method was conducted in Greenhouse and Laboratory of Microbiology in Yogyakarta province. The research were held in four phases : (1) isolation, purification and characterization of isolates; (2) reinoculation dan compatibility testing of isolates to kudzu seeds; (3) inoculum multiplication; and (4) examination of the form, amounts and most proper inoculum application method. Physical and biochemical properties of the isolates were observed during the isolation phase. Infection and nodulation activity were observed during the reinoculation phase. Indirectly counting of the microbial numbers to obtain the cell numbers was conducted during the inoculum multiplication. While infection and nodulation activity and plant growth were observed during the inoculum testing phase.Isolates purification on Yeast Mannitol Agar + congo-red media gave 5 different isolates named RP-Etp1, RP-Etp2, RP-Etp3, RP-Etp4, RP-Etp5. The RP-Etp4 isolate had the highest compatibility to the kudzu seeds (number of effective nodules >100 per plant), followed by RP-Etp5 (medium compatibility, number of effective nodules 50–100 per plant), RP-Etp1 and RP-Etp3 (low compatibility, number of effective nodules < 10). Isolate RP-Etp2 was incompatible to the kudzu.Optimum cell numbers was reached in 48 hours incubation time. Application of broth/liquid inoculum of Rhizobium sp. has advantages over solid inoculum (in peat) as it gives the highest number of nodules, and the optimum dosage was 2 – 4 ml per plant. The highest infection-nodulation activity and plant growth were reached in 4 ml inoculum per plant (direct application) or 2 ml inoculum per plant (weekly applied in two weeks).

Abstract

Our planet is heating up. We need to do something to avoid a total collapse of environment and our life. The climate changes, have been felt by us in Indonesia, and also happened in the earth side of the world. The effect has come continuously with uncertain time and spread all over the Indonesian territory along 2006 up to 2007 only. The real fact that often meet in our general society, no matter with what that happen around us, the most important thing is we can do some activities as usual, and can buy everything that we want and feel fresh, that all. We also often forget the disaster happening quickly. The global climate changest caused by global warming requires us to change life`s habit that does not care to avoid the rate of global warming. It can be done by illumination and training activities to improve the understanding of that condition and also develop the awareness of the society, especially to introduce Biopori Leach Holes technology done in Banjar Wirasatya Suwung Sidakarya. Biopori leach holes are appropriate technology and environmentally friendly way to cope with flooding (1) improve water infiltration, (2)convert organic waste into compost and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (CO2 and methane), and (3) utilize the role of activity soil fauna and plant roots, and overcome the problems caused by inactive water such as dengue fever and malaria.
