Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of a new instrument for measuring vocational interest: Padjadjaran Interest Inventory (PII). There were 2,648 participants in this study, consisting of workers, high school, and university students, with gender proportion of 1,014 (38.3%) males and 1,634 (61.7%) females. This research used descriptive statistic test, t-test and MANOVA for gender differences, reliability coefficients and validity evidence by using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results showed that PII has good psychometric properties: it has good reliability and valid internal structure; it is standardized by gender, and it is applicable for large groups with relative ease. PII can be used for career exploration. Limitation of this study was discussed for future research.

Abstract

AbstractThe process of making decisions about careers by students tends to make them difficult, especially for students in rural areas. The perception of social support obtained from the environment namely, parents, teachers, classmates, and close friends are the things that may help students make a career decision. This study conducted to explore the relationship between perceived social support and career decision-making difficulties junior high school students in a rural area. Two measurement instruments used namely Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale (CASSS) and Career Decision Making Difficulties Questionnaire (CDDQ). In the CASSS, there are two scales, values, and frequency. Data collected from 9th-grade junior high school students in the rural area (n= 242) with multistage cluster sampling techniques. The results of the study used the Spearman correlation test showed that the perception of social support value from parents and teachers is negatively correlated with difficulty in making career decisions. In contrast, the frequency scale of social support from classmates and close friends resulted in a positive relationship. The more frequent students get social support, the more difficult for them to make a decision. In conclusion, social support helped the student to decrease their career decision-making difficulties. However, the frequencies of the support have not higher than their expectation. Persepsi dukungan sosial dari lingkungan sekitar yaitu, orang tua, guru, teman sekelas dan teman dekat adalah salah satu hal yang dapat membantu siswa membuat keputusan karier. Penelitian dilakukan untuk melihat hubungan persepsi dukungan sosial dari keempat sumber dengan kesulitan pengambilan keputusan karier siswa kelas 9 daerah rural. Terdapat dua alat ukur yang digunakan yaitu, Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale (CASSS) dan Career Decision Making Difficulties Questionnaire (CDDQ). CASSS membagi dua skala dalam alat ukurnya, skala value dan frekuensi. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada siswa kelas 9 daerah rural (n = 242), dengan teknik multistage cluster sampling. Hasil penelitian menggunakan uji korelasi spearman menunjukkan persepsi value dukungan sosial orang tua dan guru berkorelasi negatif dengan kesulitan pengambilan keputusan karier, sedangkan skala frekuensi dukungan sosial teman sekelas dan teman dekat berkorelasi positif. Semakin sering siswa mendapatkan dukungan sosial, semakin sulit dalam membuat keputusan. Sebaliknya, jika siswa memiliki value yang lebih tinggi untuk dukungan sosial, semakin rendah kesulitan pengambilan keputusan kariernya. Secara umum dapat disimpulkan, pada dasarnya dukungan sosial dapat menurunkan kesulitan pengambilan keputusan. Abstract

Entering the transition period from early adolescence to late adolescence, senior high school students oftentimes experience uncertainty in determining what they should do after completing their education. This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Career Decision-Making Course (CDMC) as an intervention to deal with senior high school students' career decision-making difficulties. The three main categories of career decision-making difficulties investigated in this research included lack of readiness, lack of information, and inconsistency of information. Participants were 35 private high school students in the city of Bandung. The effectiveness of CDMC was tested through a pretest-posttest only design experiment. The results revealed that CDMC was effective in helping students deal with career decision-making difficulties, especially those related to lack of readiness and lack of information. However, CDMC did not significantly reduce the difficulty originating from the problem of inconsistency of information. The findings in this research imply that senior high school students should be provided with adequate information about various alternative careers that they can choose so that they are ready to determine the next step after finishing their education. Memasuki masa transisi dari remaja awal ke remaja akhir, siswa sekolah menengah atas seringkali mengalami kebimbangan dalam menentukan apa yang harus mereka lakukan setelah menyelesaikan pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengujikan efektivitas dari Career Decision-Making Course (CDMC) sebagai sebuah interventi untuk menangani kesulitan penentuan karier tersebut. Tiga kategori utama dalam kesulitan karier yang diteliti adalah kurangnya kesiapan, kurangnya informasi, dan inkonsistensi informasi. Partisipan adalah 35 siswa menengah atas swasta di kota Bandung. Efektivitas CDMC diuji melalui eksperimentasi pretest-posttest only design. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa CDMC efektif menangani kesulitan siswa untuk mengambil keputusan karier, terutama yang berkaitan dengan kesulitan pengambilan keputusan karena kurangnya kesiapan dan kurangnya informasi. Sementara itu, CDMC tidak berpengaruh signifikan dalam menurunkan kesulitan karena permasalahan inkonsistensi informasi. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan implikasi bahwa siswa sekolah menengah atas perlu dibekali informasi yang memadai mengenai berbagai macam alternatif karier yang bisa mereka pilih agar mereka siap menentukan langkah ke depan setelah menyelesaikan pendidikan.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the perception of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) information provision and the health protective behavior as potential factors of feelings of anxiety and happiness among the general population in Indonesia during the outbreak. We conducted an online survey using snowball sampling techniques. The online survey collected information about demographic data, information provision of COVID-19, health prevention behaviors, and feelings of anxiety and happiness. This study involved 3,686 participants in Indonesia in the period from 2nd of April to 4th of April 2020. We found that the most frequent source of information reported was social media. The majority of participants were satisfied with the amount of information provided (98%), however 54% of the participants reported that no information or very little information about the screening/test and the treatment of COVID-19 was provided. The most frequent protective behaviour was implemented cough attitude, avoided handshake, and applied physical distancing. High exposure of Information about COVID-19 and doing preventive measures were associated with greater anxiety. Nonetheless, some preventive measures appeared to be positively associated with feelings of happiness. Our results give an indications about the information provision, application of preventive measure and the factors associated with feelings of anxiety and happiness.

Abstract

Social support is important to predict subjective well-being in school for students, especially support from friends, parents, and teachers. Students who study at Modern Islamic Boarding, they interact with friends and teachers more often than with parents. The purpose of this study to examine the role of perceived social support from friends, parents, and teachers to enhace subjective well-being in school, and also with each dimension of subjective well-being in school, school satisfaction and affect in school. Participants in this study (N = 264) were a junior high school in grades 7 and 8 in one of the Modern Islamic Boarding School in West Java. The data was obtained using a questionnaire. A multiple regression and path analysis were used to analyze the data. The results shows that perceived social support from friends and teacher has positive impact to subjective well-being in school, while perceived social support from parents is not significantly correlated. Futhermore, perceived social support from friends also has a positive role to enhace school satisfaction and affect in school, perceived social support from teacher significantly correlated with school satisfaction but not with affect in school. The limitation of the study and suggestion for future research were discussed.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused most schools and universities in Indonesia to face a new learning situation called Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh (PJJ) or online learning. Furthermore, this situation also has an impact on first-year students who are about to enter higher education. As the pandemic gets worse, they are not able to get to know their social and academic environment face-to-face. Thus, this study aimed to find the role of online-formed peer relationships on students' academic motivation during the online learning period. Based on a sample of 118 first-year students from a university, this study found that participants had a high quality of peer relationships and academic motivation. Moreover, peer relationships significantly predict students' academic motivation. However, participants who had interacted entirely online with their friends had a significantly lower quality of peer relationships. This result suggests the importance of building good peer relationships to support students' academic motivation, especially in the pandemic.

Abstract

Perceived value had a major role in an academic activity, including in thesis writing. Unfortunately, there was no study that validated perceived value inventory in the thesis writing setting using empirical evaluation. Thesis writing has specific characteristics that make it unique compared to the general academic activity. Therefore, specific measurement is needed to accurately measure it. The present study aimed to validate the perceived value scale using construct validity approach. The research participants (N = 219) were university students from several faculties. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to validate the construct. Reliability was also estimated in this study. The result showed that the modified model was fit. The goodness of fit was estimated using Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA), Goodness-of-Fit Index (GFI), Normed Fit Index (NFI), and Non-Normed Fit Index (NNFI). The factor loading of each item was in range of .58 - .87, the Construct Reliability (CR) of each dimension were .81 and .77, and the Average Variance Extracted (AVE) of each dimension were .52 and .54. The reliability of the whole construct and its factors were satisfying (>.70). This result indicated that this scale was satisfying in overall structure and its convergence.

Abstract

Stigma negatif terhadap orang yang hidup dengan HIV/AIDS (ODHA) memunculkan suatu prasangka yang berujung pada penolakan untuk berinteraksi ataupun melakukan diskriminasi. Beberapa penelitian membuktikan bahwa prasangka terhadap ODHA dapat menurun dengan memberikan intervensi melalui beberapa jenis media komunikasi seperti gambar dan video. Hanya saja, penelitian sebelumnya lebih menekankan pada prasangka yang bersifat eksplisit (sadar) yang sangat dipengaruhi oleh tuntutan sosial. Di sisi lain, pada dasarnya prasangka tidak hanya bersifat eksplisit, tetapi juga bersifat implisit (spontan). Dua eksperimen dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk melihat pengaruh jenis media komunikasi—berupa gambar dan video—pada perubahan prasangka implisit mahasiswa terhadap ODHA. Subjek merupakan mahasiswa aktif yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik sampel acak berstrata berdasarkan tingkatan tahun. Pendekatan penelitian adalah pre-post experimental design dengan menggunakan pengukuran prasangka implisit yaitu Implicit Association Test (IAT). Analisis data dilakukan dengan melakukan uji beda terhadap skor IAT yang diperoleh. Hasil analisa menunjukan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan skor IAT antara sebelum dan setelah perlakukan. Berdasarkan data dapat disimpulkan jenis media komunikasi berupa gambar dan video tidak mengubah prasangka implisit terhadap ODHA.

Abstract

Lots of researchers found that perceived control had a major role in various educational activities, including thesis. Unfortunately, there was limited study that validates perceived control inventory to measure the construct, especially in the thesis writing context. The thesis writing context has specific characteristics that make this context unique compare to the general academic context. In order to provide psychometric properties, especially validity evidence in this inventory, the present study aimed to validate the inventory. The research participants (N = 233) were university students from one university and across faculties. Construct validity evidence was used in the present study using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to validate the construct. Reliability was also estimated in the study. The result showed that the inventory fulfilled the fit criteria, namely Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA), Goodness-of-Fit Index (GFI), Normed Fit Index (NFI), and Non-Normed Fit Index (NNFI). The factor loading of each item > .70, the Construct Reliability (CR) of each dimension > .70, and the Average Variance Extracted (AVE) of each dimension > .50. The reliability of the whole construct and its factors also satisfactory (>.70). This result indicated that this inventory was satisfactory in the overall aspect and could be used to measure perceived control in the thesis writing context.

Abstract

Remaja dituntut untuk siap mengambil keputusan karier, seperti memilih jurusan kuliah yang tepat. Kesiapan keputusan karier diartikan sebagai kemampuan individu untuk membuat pilihan karier yang sesuai dengan mempertimbangkan kompleksitas faktor keluarga, sosial, ekonomi, dan organisasi yang mempengaruhi perkembangan karier individu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui validitas konten alat ukur kesiapan keputusan karier yang dikembangkan berdasarkan kondisi siswa SMA/SMK di Indonesia. Metode penelitian yang dipakai adalah proses penelaahan ahli oleh tiga dosen dan enam praktisi psikologi pendidikan dilakukan untuk mendapatkan bukti validitas berdasarkan konten. Proses penelaahan ahli dibagi menjadi tiga tahap, tahap pertama penelaahan 160 aitem dilakukan oleh tiga dosen, tahap kedua revisi item, dan tahap ketiga proses penelaahan oleh enam praktisi psikologi pendidikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 74 aitem yang mengukur kesiapan keputusan karier memiliki nilai I-CVI di atas 0,78 dan nilai S-CVI/Ave 0,98. Penelitian lebih lanjut perlu dilakukan dengan ujicoba alat ukur kesiapan keputusan karier dan pengumpulan data untuk menemukan bukti validitas lainnya dari alat ukur kesiapan keputusan karier dan mendapatkan norma kelompok.
