Abstract

Malay identity is the most dominant cultural identity in Bangka Belitung that still holds their strength of local wisdom even though modernization, afforded by tin mining and palm oil exploration, is emerging around them.  One of the original Malay people in Bangka Belitung is the Jerieng community. This study is aimed to identify negotiations on the boundaries of the cultural identity of the Jerieng community in West Bangka Regency. This study used the theory of identity building from Manuel Castells and subculture theory. This study also employs a descriptive qualitative approach intended to describe the common symptoms associated with the distribution of Malay culture in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, especially the Jerieng community. In this study, ten informants were interviewed, consisting of the six elders and four from the younger generation. The locations of this research were Ibul Village, Pelangas Village, and Kundi Village, West Bangka Regency, which was the Jerieng community area. The study results showed that the Jerieng community had a way of maintaining the cultural identity by maintaining the values and norms of their ancestral heritage and harmony between people, the environment, and the natural environment. Meeting with culture outside made the Jerieng community negotiate their identity to form the construction of surviving, changing, identity, and negotiating cultural identity. The Jerieng community’s identity was still maintained, including a pilgrimage to sacred tombs, mountain alms, circumcision, and language dialects, while the Jerieng community identity has changed, including village charity, traditional clothing, prayer during the Prophet’s birthday, and rituals of spells. Furthermore, the identity of the Jerieng community, including custom clothing and jewelry, language dialects, and the marriage system, is applied through the negotiation process by continuing to carry out some traditions or cultures considered still relevant to people’s lives at this time.

Abstract

Abstract

Nowadays, slogans in the public space have become the most significant socialist symbols and meanings that are easily accessible to the public, such as the example of writing traffic signs, billboards, information boards and other media. The problem lies in the lack of attention to the linguistic element, considering that the media contains formal slogans as a reflection of the level of standardization in the interpretation of symbols and meanings aimed at educating the public. These errors are found in a number of public spaces in Pangkalpinang City. This study aimed to describe the linguistic aspects of writing slogans in the public space as well as how to socialize about the delivery of symbols and meanings in the writing. This study also looked at how the purpose of informative education through symbols and meanings of the writing in the socialization media was interpreted by the people of Pangkalpinang. So that there are two formulations of the problem that will be elaborated in this study, namely: (1) How is the distribution of slogans in public spaces indicated to violate linguistic values ?; (2) How is the dissemination of symbols and meanings contained in the slogans conveyed educatively to the public? The theory used to carry out this research is the socio-phonological theory, ambiguity, and sociology of communication from Hebert Mead about symbolic interactionism. The method used was descriptive qualitative using data collection techniques, namely full observation and interviews. This research showed that there are no concepts that are misleading in conveying symbols and meanings contained in slogans in public spaces that should be formally informal because the Pangkalpinang community translates phonemes into orthographical (writing).

The data were processed using the Unit Root Test- Augmented Dickey-Fuller to test the stationary and the ARCH/GARCH method to test the effect of the variable. The results show that EPU has no effect on stock volatility in Indonesia in the short term, but has an effect in the long term. This research contributes to the development of the event study literature in the behavior of investors in the capital market as a result of unpredictable events. Abstract

Apart from being a medium for entertainment simulation, video games also provide a representation of the social world. Game industry developers always carry out research to provide socio-cultural, historical and philosophical system content to enrich the content in the game. The story background in video games aims to provide experiences and impressions for the players. This research aims to qualitatively explore forms of religious representation that are simulated in open world video games. So players can play role characters in the game to experience spirituality and religiosity. Either through latent and manifest narratives or through moral choices in the context of developing the storyline and Player character in the Game. This research uses Emile Durkehim's sociological perspective of religion regarding Karl Marx's totemism and commodity fetishism to observe the incarnation of the gaming industry as an altar of worship for its players, as well as Jean Baudrillard's postmodernist perspective with his simulacrum concept to analyze the form of simulation and representation of religious symbols that appear in the game. these open world games... This research finds that the use of simulations and the distribution of representations of religious signs or symbols in games forms a religion simulacrum or a blurring of spiritual boundaries between the pseudo and the real. Video games build the Player's construction of religiosity and spirituality virtually in a simulated world that contains ritual practices, ethics, morality, cosmology, metaphysics, and theology.
