Abstract

The problem raised in this study is the relationship between vocabulary and sentence mastery and the ability to compose descriptions. This research was conducted because of the reality in the field that the ability to compose descriptions and mastery of vocabulary, as well as sentences that need to be developed. This study aims to describe the relationship between vocabulary and sentence mastery and the ability to compose a description of the seventh grade students of SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung. The techniques used in collecting research data are questionnaires, tests, and observations. Research data analysis techniques include requirements analysis test, statistical analysis, and research hypothesis testing techniques. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that, (1) there is a positive and significant relationship between sentence structure and the ability to compose descriptions, indicated by a correlation coefficient of 0.766 and a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.587 or 58.7%, (2) there is a relationship a positive and significant relationship between vocabulary mastery and the ability to compose descriptions indicated by a correlation coefficient of 0.662 and a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.438 or 43.8%, (3) there is a positive and significant relationship between vocabulary mastery and sentence structure and ability composing a description shown by the correlation coefficient of 0.804 and the coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.646 or 64.6%.

Abstract

The problem was raised in this research is the relationship between mastery of diction and writing interest with the ability to compose narratives. This research was conducted because of the reality on the ground that the ability to compose narratives and mastery of diction, as well as interest in writing, need to be developed. This study aims to describe the relationship between diction mastery and writing interest with the ability to compose narratives for fifth grade students at SDN 4 Tanjung Aman. To achieve the research objectives mentioned above, the authors use the correlational method, meaning that data is collected after all the events in question have taken place. The techniques used in collecting research data are questionnaires, tests, and observations. Research data analysis techniques include requirements analysis test, statistical analysis, and research hypothesis testing techniques. The results of the study show: (1) diction mastery is positively related to the ability to compose narratives as indicated by a correlation coefficient of 0.775 > 0.535 (r table); (2) writing interest is positively related to the ability to compose narratives as indicated by a correlation coefficient of 0.649 > 0.361 ( r table); and (3) mastery of diction and writing interest together have a positive relationship with the ability to compose narrative coefficients of 0.807.

Abstract

The research aimed to know the influence of Think, Predict, Read, and Connect strategy on students’ reading comprehension. This strategy helped the students comprehend main idea, supporting idea, inference, reference and vocabularies of the text. In this research the writer used quantitative method and categorized the research as quasi experimental method. The sample was taken by using Cluster Random Sampling technique. There were two classes for the sample. X PM 1 was an experimental class consisted of 35 students and X PM 2 was a control class consisted of 34 students. Based on the data analysis and testing of hypotheses, it showed that the average score of students who were taught through Think, Predict, Read, and Connect (TPRC) strategy was higher than which was taught through direct instruction. It was got 75.24 > 63.97 and in the end of result, it showed that was higher than . In the calculation of two averages score, it was obtained 3.99 > 2.00 < 2.66 and in the calculation of the difference of two averages score, it was obtained 3.99 > 1.67 < 2.39. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a significance influence of using Think, Predict, Read, and Connect strategy towards students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMK Negeri 4 Bandar Lampung in 2022/2023.
