Abstract

Schoology is a learning management system for students to create, control, and share the content of their learning resources. Also known as teaching media for the virtual learning experience, this course management system provides tools to administer classroom activity for the blended learning activity. The present study was aimed to analyze schoology effects on students’ writing ability, and to investigate the students’ curiosity towards schoology in the writing process. There were sixty students from the first semester students of English Department at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung in 2018/2019. The samples composed of two groups that consist of the experimental and control group. The experimental class implemented Schoology and the control class applied conventional media. The writing test and questionnaire administered to accomplish the objective of the research. Paired and independent sample t-test was used for analyzing the quantitative data. The findings of the quantitative data revealed the use of schoology was more effective than the use of non-schoology. It was determined by the mean score from both of the groups (82 > 72). The difference (df) of both mean scores was statistically significant based on the t-test value at 0.05 significance level, and the probability value was smaller than the significant level (0.000 < 0.05). In summary, the result of hypothesis testing found that t-value = 5.993 was higher than t-table = 2.000 (p=0.05, df =58). Ha was accepted, and Ho was rejected. In addition, the result of questionnaire analysis confirms that schoology platform was attractive for teaching and learning writing subject.

Abstract

During the pandemic, the teaching and learning process is carried out by implementing e- learning or online learning. One of the most common applications that are used in online learning is Google Meet. The researchers focused on EFL students’ perception by looking for significant studies using information and communication technology using Google Meet for students' English learning during the pandemic. The data used in this literature review are published articles in the form of pdf format. Thus, a total of six studies were found relevant to review. The result showed that using Google Meet in online learning during the pandemic is helpful to assist their learning process. However, students still prefer face-to-face learning because online learning tends to get boring and uninteresting. After all, most teachers are incapable of using an online application to provide an engaging, creative, and innovative learning environment. Abstract

The impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the education system is inevitable that higher education institutions choose to transform their instructional practices to entirely online using specific platforms. This shifting comes with challenges to students as they are demanded to be independent and autonomous. This study investigated the students’ readiness and perception towards being an autonomous learner in online language-learning. This case study investigated 25 students who joined online language learning by the WhatApps group in an English department of STAI Sufyan Tsauri Majenang. The data were gained by giving an online questionnaire, having an online interview with some students who were chosen randomly, and also assigning students self-report. The data showed that the students do not have enough autonomy in online language-learning. It means that the students are not ready to be autonomous learners in online language learning. The result of the study indicated that the students prefer having a face to face class and direct guidance from the teacher where 66.9% of the same students prefer learning in class or face to face meeting. In comparison, only 18.5 % who share no problem having an online class. 14.6% of them enjoy both options. This finding suggests that teachers need some strategies to promote and foster students’ learner autonomy to achieve learning objectives in online language learning.

Abstract

The popularity of virtual-learning platforms as an alternative for instructional practices during the pandemic is rocketing yet students’ perceptions to the implementation are not optimally gauged especially to young learners. This study explores the students’ perception towards learning English using two popular virtual platforms during Covid-19 pandemic. This is a case study involving 30 students in their third-year study at a private primary-school primary school in Tangerang City, Banten. Interviewing and observing all students respectively were conducted to obtain the data needed. Using descriptive analysis, it was found that the students showed negative perceptions towards the online-based learning process. Not only the media but also the whole learning process was negatively impacted. This is a voice that highlights the issue of recent education is facing. Further studies are therefore suggested to delve into effective and feasible solutions to eradicate the negative perception because the best time to return to classroom-situated instructions remains arguable for no-exact time

Abstract

This research was conducted to know the influence of the Visualization Strategy on students' reading comprehension of recount text. This study aimed to identify and describe the impact of the Visualization Strategy on students' reading comprehension. The researchers utilized a quasi-experimental method in this study. There were 283 students in nine classes. Cluster Random Sampling Technique was used to collect the sample. The sample consisted of two classes, with the following details: the first class was an experimental class of 31 students, while the second class was a control class of 31 students. The primary technique of this research was a reading test in multiple choices, which consisted of 40 items with four options. In analyzing the data, the researchers used the t-test formula. The findings show that the Visualization Strategy impacted students' reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 32 Bandar Lampung in 2021/2022. It can be seen from the result that the mean score of post-test in the experimental class (84.42) is higher than the mean score of post-test in the control class (72.54). Therefore, using a visualization strategy as a learning model is more effective than a conventional strategy. On the other hand, the pre-test score in the experimental class is 67.42 before utilizing the visualization approach, and the mean score for the post-test in the experimental class is 84.42. It indicates Visualization Strategy had a beneficial impact on reading comprehension, so the students can improve their reading skills using this learning strategy Keywords: Visualization Strategy, Reading Comprehension, Experimental Research
