Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the mathematical communication skills of eighth-grade students in junior high school regarding the topic of linear equations. The population of this study consisted of eighth-grade students in one of the schools in Yogyakarta. Prior to selecting the subjects, a self-esteem questionnaire was administered, and then 6 students were randomly chosen, with 3 students having high self-esteem and 3 students having medium self-esteem. The selected students were then given a written test on mathematical communication skills and an interview. The data collected for this study included the results of the written test and the interviews. Based on the data analysis conducted, it was found that among the six selected students, SP1 was able to answer the questions using written text, drawing, and mathematical expressions, but their communication of the answers was not accurate. SP2 exhibited higher mathematical communication skills compared to the other subjects. SP3 had low mathematical communication skills, SP4 had moderate communication skills, SP5 had low mathematical communication skills, and SP6 could be considered to have moderate communication skills. Therefore, it is expected that teachers can provide students with the freedom to solve problems according to their own understanding and ideas.

Abstract

The objective is to provide knowledge for pure mathematics and mathematics education students to understand quantified statements so that they can easily comprehend the meaning of mathematical propositions and facilitate their proof. The method used in this research is a literature review by collecting various sources such as books or scientific writings related to the logic used to understand mathematics, specifically related to quantifiers, both universal and existential quantifiers. When mathematics and mathematics education students understand the quantified statement ∀x[Px], what they do is take any (cannot choose specific) x, and it must be proven that x satisfies property P. Then, to understand the quantified statement ∃x[Px], what is done is to choose (at least one) x, and it must be proven that x satisfies property P. When mathematics and mathematics education students understand the multi-quantifier statement ∀x∃y[P(x,y)], what is done is to take any (cannot choose specific) x, then find (at least one) y (depending on x), and x, y must satisfy property P. Then, to understand the multi-quantifier statement ∃y ∀x[P(x,y)] or ∃y [P(x,y)∀x], what is done is to choose y (independent of x) and it must be proven that y satisfies property P along with all x.

Abstract

Penelitian berfokus pada profil kecerdasan visual spasial siswa kelas 12 SMA N 1 Jetis Bantul terhadap pada tingkat pemecahan masalah yang tinggi. Fokus penelitian yang diangkat didasarkan pada urgensi bahwa siswa merasa kesulitan dalam menghubungkan bagian-bagian visual dalam sisi bangun ruang dan belum mampu memprediksi bangun ruang bila dilihat dari berbagai sudut pandang menurut survey lapangan yang dilakukan oleh Fajri dkk (2016). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode tes, dan wawancara. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa soal tes Matematika yang mengadaptasi model Open-Ended Problem dan pedoman wawancara. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan profil kecerdasan visual spasial tingkat tinggi siswa kelas 12 SMA N 1 Jetis Bantul berdasarkan karakteristik kecerdasan visual-spasial Haas. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas 12 MIPA 4 SMA N 1 Jetis Bantul yang dipilih sebanyak 2 siswa berdasarkan capaian hasil pekerjaan siswa yang tergolong pada tingkat pemecahan masalah yang tinggi berdasarkan kriteria pada Taksonomi Bloom revisi terbaru. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang terpilih menjadi sampel penelitian ini memiliki profil kecerdasan visual-spasial yang sangat baik ditinjau berdasarkan karakteristik kecerdasan visual-spasial Haas. Pernyataan tersebut menegaskan bahwa kecerdasan visual-spasial yang dimiliki siswa tersebut telah melewati urgensi penelitian yang diangkat.

Abstract

Berdasarkan hasil observasi di Prodi Pendidikan Matematika UST Yogyakarta terdapat beberapa masalah pada proses pembelajaran salah satunya yaitu belum tersedianya modul yang berbasis ajaran Tamansiswa. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengembangkan modul Trigonometri berbasis ajaran Tamansiswa dan mencari tahu tingkat kelayakan modul tersebut. Metode penelitian pengembangan dengan model ADDIE yang melalui 5 tahapan yaitu Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Pada penelitian ini dibatasi sampai tahap Development. Penelitian dilakukan di Prodi Pendidikan Matematika UST. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah Trigonometri pada Semester Gasal Tahun Akademik 2020/2021 yaitu 50 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan angket dan wawancara yaitu angket validasi untuk validator ahli materi dan ahli modul. Teknik analisis data secara deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil yang dicapai adalah telah berhasil dikembangkan modul Trigonometri berbasis ajaran Tamansiswa. Modul yang dikembangkan ini telah memenuhi kelayakan sesuai dengan hasil validasi ahli modul dan materi dengan hasil validator sangat baik. Based on the results of observations at the UST Yogyakarta Mathematics Education Study Program, there are several problems in the learning process, one of which is the unavailability of modules based on Tamansiswa teachings. The research objective was to develop a Trigonometry module based on Tamansiswa teachings and to find out the feasibility level of the module. The development research method uses the ADDIE model through 5 stages, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This research is limited to the Development stage. The research was conducted at the UST Mathematics Education Study Program. The research subjects were 50 students taking the Trigonometry course in the Odd Semester of the Academic Year 2020/2021. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and interviews, namely validation questionnaires for material expert validators and module experts. The data analysis technique is descriptive qualitative and quantitative. The result that has been achieved is that the Trigonometry module based on Tamansiswa teachings has been successfully developed. This developed module has met the feasibility by the results of validation by module experts and material with very good validator results.
