Abstract

Teaching English for young learners is one of the difficult things, if we remember.  There is more than a hundred thousand word of it.Moreover, something that should be remember is there might be many ways which is given by the teacher to teach vocabulary to Elementary school students in order to make them understand and comprehend each of the vocabulary given. Because of that, to encourage them to be more attractive in studying vocabulary, so that the teachers have to prepare one of an interesting, innovative and and creative. This paper will presents about one media which can get students’ attention in comprehending for those vocabularies., it is Flashcard of Cartoon Characters. Flashcard of Cartoon Characters is one of card media English learning which can help teacher to teach vocabulary for students based on the Cartoon characters in every their favorite movies.

Abstract

Berbicara merupakan salah satu keahlian yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa dalam tujuan untuk tercapainya keefektifan dalam berkomunikasi. Kemampuan berbicara ini akan sangat berguna bagi siswa sekolah menengah kejuruan yang nantinya akan memasuki dunia bisnis ekonomi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam mendeskripsikan produk ditinjau dari segi grammar dan knowledge of genre. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif (descriptive research). Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 62 siswa kelas X jurusan Pemasaran di SMK Negeri 3 Padang. Sampel penelitian didapatkan dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling dimana peneliti hanya mengambil satu perwakilan kelas sebagai sampel penelitian, yaitu 31 siswa kelas X Pemasaran 2. Data dalam penelitian merupakan hasil tes unjuk kerja kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam mendeskripsikan satu dari dua tema produk berbeda yaitu electronic dan kosmetik. Dari hasil penelitian diketahui kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas X Pemasaran 2 SMK Negeri 3 Padang ditinjau dari segi grammar mendapat nilai rata-rata 73.81 dengan kategori sangat baik (very good) dan dari segi knowledge of genre mendapat nilai rata-rata 69.27 dengan kategori sangat baik (very good). Dari hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara siswa dilihat dari segi grammar dan knowledge of genre dalam mendeskripsikan produk adalah sangat baik (very good).

Abstract

Speaking is one of the four important elements in English. In order to speak English fluently, speakers need to master sub-skills in speaking English which one of them is fluency. The quality of fluency will be effected to the quality of the conversation. Therefore, fluency is needed to be mastered by the students to avoid mis-understanding in the conversation. Nevertheless, the students in Indonesia tend to have several problems to speak fluently. They are, the students’ anxiety, get influenced by their mother language, word-choosing or lack in vocabulary, and less motivation in learning English. This paper will discuss how to teaching speaking fuency to Junior High School Students through Animation Movie. The content of Animation Movie is pretty easy to be understood by the students in Junior High School and also it will easily interests students and make the students enjoy the learning process so they can overwhelm their problems in order to speak fluently. The use of Animation Movie in teaching speaking fluency to Junior High School students can be implemented by using scientific approach; Observing, Questioning, Associating, Experimenting and Communicating. Key words: Speaking Fluency, Animation Movie

Abstract

The increasing of global communication makes the demand to mastering English also increase, including Indonesia. In learning English, understanding vocabulary is considered as an essential thing because without vocabulary, people will not be able to express their ideas and comprehend what other people say, in other words, they are not able to communicate each other. In order to mastering English vocabulary, students from elementary grade are introduced to English vocabulary by using many kinds of interactive media that can help this purpose. One of the media to help students’ vocabulary mastery is called Interactive Word Walls which is used in elementary school. Interactive Word Walls is a vocabulary learning media where the words that have been learned are displayed on the wall. This paper will discuss the procedure in creating this media, the application method, and the use of it.

Abstract

Speaking in a foreign language is one of difficult activities for students. It is caused by some factors, which are the lack of role models, vocabulary mastery, and inability of brainstorming ideas. an appropriate technique is needed to solve these problems. One of the techniques is “self-talk” technique. This technique helps both teacher and students to built the interaction. In this technique, teacher explains what they are doing. The teacher will provide list of vocabularies to describe what they are doing. This technique is expected to help students in speaking, because speaking starts after listening. In addition, the teacher gives direct examples of the vocabulary to help students develop the ideas they are going to say. The difficulties that are faced by the students is expected to be solved through this technique.

Abstract

AbstractPenelitian ini menganalisa metode dan teknik menerjemaah yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa yang teregistrasi tahun ajaran 2013 di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris program studi Pendidikan Bahasa inggris. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui metode dan teknik penerjemaahan yang paling banyak digunakan oleh mahasiswa Bahasa inggris program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dalam menerjemaahkan cerita naratif pendek berjudul “Pinocchio”. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah menunjukkan mahasiswa Bahasa Inggris program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris menggunakan Communicative method sebagai metode yang sering digunakan untuk menerjemaahkan cerita pendek “Pinocchio”. Sedangkan teknik menerjemaahkan yang ditemukan sebagai berikut:  Establish Equivalance  (92,4%).reduction (3,32%) .adaption (2,52%) .addition (0,65%). Generalization (0,04%) .transposition (0,11%). description (0,11%) .ommision (0,34%). Berdasarkan keterkaitan antara metode dan teknik dapat dilihat bahwa mahasiswa  sebagai sampel sangat cenderung melakukan penerjemaahan yang berfokus pada bahasa sasaran. Hasil dari penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa Bahasa Inggris sudah dapat melakukan penerjemaahan dengan baik dan sesuai dengan tujuan dari teks. Namun, ada hal yang perlu dipertimbangkan kembali dari hasil penelitian ini yaitu kemampuan siswa dalam penerjemaahan teks yang tujuan dan jenis yang berbeda, Sehingga mahasiswa Bahasa Inggris dapat menerjemaahkan dengan teknik yang berbeda beda sesuai dengan teks dan tujuan penerjemaahan

Abstract

This article aims to describe the use of Scattergories game in teaching vocabulary to elementary school students. Vocabulary is a basic component in mastering the four language skills; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Therefore, vocabulary must be taught to children from elementary education. Elementary school students or called "young learner" have different characteristics with adults. They think concretely, act very actively and are very curious. Therefore, it is necessary to use the suitable vocabulary teaching techniques to compensate for the characteristics of the elementary school students, namely by using games, one of them is Scattergories game. By using Scattergories games, students can be active in the learning process and learn in a fun way.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students‟ speaking ability in role playong “Dialogues of guests handling” viewed from grammatical and lexical features. The design of this research is descriptive research. The populations of this research are the eleventh year of Administrasi Perkantoran students of SMKN 3 Padang. The sample of this research is get by using cluster sampling where the researcher chooses one class, that is XI AP 2 class. Data of this research are students‟ speaking ability in role playing dialogues of guests handling. The data are taken by giving speaking test in which the students are required to role play dialogues of guests handling. The result ot students‟ speaking ability viewed from grammatical features is 71,56 which classified into very good. The result ot students‟ speaking ability viewed from lexical features is 79,01 which classified into very good.

Abstract

This paper is purposed to explain about teaching speaking for senior high school students through The English We Speak Activity, as one way to persuade students' interest in learning English. All of the four skills in English are covered by speaking. Thus, speaking is important to be learnt.However, it is found that there are many students have difficulties in speaking English. Some of the reasons are lack of material given and activity that is used in class.In using The English We Speak Activity, students will be given some very update phrases and words related to the lesson.Therefore, they will more interested in learning English especially speaking. This activity is applied in group and pair.The students can be collaborated in discussing their activity. Then, they have to make new conversation based on what they get before and perform it in front of the class in order to train them speak well.

Abstract

This paper explains about the implementation of dialogic reading strategy to teach English to Elementary school student’s grade 6 in learning English. The writer will explains the procedures and the advantages of dialogic reading strategy. Grover Whitehurst a psychology found this strategy. This strategy uses the acronym PEER (Prompt, Evaluate, Extend and Repeat) and CROWD (Completion prompts, Recall prompts, Open-ended prompts, Wh-prompts, and Distancing prompts). This strategy helps students to use more words, speak in longer sentences, improving their vocabulary and practice their English.
