Abstract

Abstract. This research was aimed to obtain status of reproduction hormone and electrolyte plasma and kidney’s act on electrolyte in normal estrous cycle of 4 healthy female Bligon goats. The electrolyte, hormone and electrolyte clearance study has done in the first day, 3rd–5th,  6th–16th, and 17th–18th day of oestrus cycle. Estrogen and progesterone were analyzed with ELISA, while Na, K, Cl were with spectrophotometer. The average difference for each parameter in any period of oestrus cycle was subject to analysis of variance continued by Turkey HSD. The average of estrogen in estrous cycle was 211.25–247.77 pg/dl potential to increase around the estrous and decrease in luteal period (3rd–5th day and 6th–16th estrous cycle), and progesterone was 0.21–0.70 ng/dl with significant increase in luteal period (3rd–5rd day and 6th–16th estrogen cycle). Na, K, Cl in plasma in estrous cycle were not significantly different. Conclusively, progesterone levels in the late luteal period of Bligon goat’s estrous cycle was significantly higher than that in other periods of oestrus. Estrogen levels tended to increase prior to and during the periods of oestrus and decrease during the luteal period despite the lack of significant changes, also in status of plasma electrolytes and renal acts of electrolytes. Key words: Electrolytes, goat, hormone, estrous Abstrak. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendapatkan status hormon reproduksi dan plasma elektrolit dan reaksi ginjal terhadap elektrolit pada siklus estrus kambing Jawa Randu. Penelitian menggunakan 4 kambing betina sehat yang memiliki siklus estrus normal. Analisa elektrolit, hormon dan bersihan elektrolit dilakukan pada siklus estrus hari pertama, ketiga-kelima, keenam-keenambelas, dan hari ketujuhbelas-kedelapanbelas. Estrogen dan propgesteron dianalisa dengan ELISA, sedangkan Na, K, Cl dianalisa dengan spektofotometer. Rataan perbedaan setiap parameter periode siklus estrus dianalisa dengan analisis ragam dilanjutkan dengan Tukey BNJ. Rataan estrogen dalam siklus estrus adalah 211,25-247,77 pg/dl, dengan potensi peningkatan di sekitar estrogen dan penurunan di fase luteal (siklus estrus hari ke 3-5, dan 6-16), dan rataan progesteron adalah 0,21-0,70 nd/dl dengan peningkatan nyata selama fase luteal (siklus estrus hari ke 3-5, dan 6-16). Na, K, Cl dalam plasma disiklus estrus tidak berbeda nyata. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa tingkat progesteron di akhir fase luteal dalam siklus estrus kambing Jawa Randu jauh lebih tinggi dari pada fase lain pada periode estrus. Level estrogen cenderung meningkat sebelum dan selama periode estrus dan menurun selama fase luteal meskipun tidak menunjukkan perubahan nyata, begitu pula pada status elektrolit plasma dan kinerja ginjal terhadap elektrolit. Kata kunci: Elektrolit, kambing, hormon, estrus

Abstract

ABSTRACT The utilization of manure as organic fertilizer is on the rise, but the coarse form may negatively impact the aesthetics. This community service aims to train the farmers to operate the livestock manure grinder machine. The community service was performed in the Sidomaju livestock group, Panggungharjo village, Sewon, Bantul, Yogyakarta, with 37 farmers. The method for this community service is providing online presentations followed by online and offline workshops. The participation and satisfaction of the participants were measured by direct interaction and analyzed descriptively. The results of this community service showed that all farmers were more enthusiastic to participate in offline activities rather than online ones. All of the participants of the training can operate the livestock manure grinder machine. Based on the results of this activity, it is concluded that the training on the use of grinders for livestock manure machine has been adopted by farmers. Keywords: Manure; Manure grinder; Livestock; Organic manure ABSTRAK Pemanfaatan kotoran ternak sebagai pupuk organik semakin meningkat, tetapi bentuk yang kasar dapat mengurangi estetika. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan melaksanakan pelatihan penggunaan alat pelembut kotoran ternak. Pengabdian dilakukan di kelompok ternak Sidomaju, desa Panggungharjo, Sewon, Bantul, Yogyakarta yang beranggotakan 37 peternak. Metode kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah dengan presentasi dan pelatihan secara daring dan luring. Keterlibatan dan kepuasan peserta diukur melalui interaksi langsung dan hasilnya dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa semua peternak lebih antusias mengikuti kegiatan secara luring. Semua peserta yang hadir dalam pelatihan telah dapat mengoperasionalkan mesin penghalus kotoran ternak. Berdasar hasil kegiatan ini, disimpulkan bahwa pelatihan penggunaan mesin penghalus kotoran ternak telah dapat diadopsi oleh peternak. Abstract

Kegiatan desa binaan tahun ke-2 ini sebagai bagian dari desa binaan 3 tahun yang bertujuan menjadikan Kemiri Sebagai Kawasan Petenakan Terpadu. Tahapan tahun ni menitikberatakan pada upaya peningkatan keterampilan budi daya kambing pada masyarakat Kemiri, kecamatan Tanjungsari, Kabupaten Gunungkidul. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan inisiasi budidaya kambing kacang dan konsultatif. Abstract

Anadara clam shell contains high Zinc. This microelement is recognised as acting natural aromatase blocker (NAB) that capable of boosting testosterone level. The aim of this study was to evaluates the testosterone level of Canaries following Anadara nodifera administration. Adult male Canaries (n = 27) were group into 3 with 9 repetition of each i.e T0 [control, was given by Carboxymethyl Cellulose Sodium (Na-CMC)], T1 (Zinc Sulphate 0.013 mg/30 g BW), and T2 (NAB 0.3 mg/30 g BW). The T2 treatment was NAB or shell powder of Anadara nodifera which was diluted 1:1 in Na-CMC. The birds were treated orally for 21 days. The complete blood cell count was performed in a haemo analyser except the erythrocyte was calculated manually in the Improved Neubauer counting chamber. Testosterone level was measured in ELISA. Subsequently gen CYP19 aromatase in syrinx, brain and testis were identified employing IHC and descriptively analysed. The result indicated significant elevated level of testosterone (p<0.05). The expression of CYP19 aromatase receptor was depressed in syrinx, brain and testis. However there was no significant changes on the blood profile (p>0.05). To conclude, Anadara nodifera at 0.3 mg/30 g BW was capable of acting as NAB to promote testosterone level. This was confirmed by the reduction of CYP19 aromatase gene receptors in syrinx, brain and testis. However NAB treatment was not significantly affecting routine blood profile.

Abstract

Thyroxine hormone (T4) was one of the hormones related to metabolism rate. Animal transportation could be stressor interfering metabolism. Sargassum crasifoium was one of brown algae species that contained some important nutrients and also flavonoids. The study aimed at finding out the effect of the Sargassum on the decrase in thyroxine hormone and body weight loss. It used 9 Javanese Randu goats that were classified into 3 treatment groups. Group I served as control, Group II was treated with 450 mg/kg BW of Sargassum estract and Group III was treated with vitamin B1. All of the goats were transported for 12 hours using pickup truck at the speed of 60 km/hour. Blood samples were drawn before the transportation, during loading, 6 hours after the transportation and at the end of the transportation, while the body weight of the goats was weighed before and after the transportation. The results of the study showed that the T4 hormone decreased in the Group I and increased in the Group III during the transportation, while it was stable in the Group II. The biggest percentage of the body weight loss took place to the Group III (0.13%), while the smallest percentage took place to the Group II (0.063%). Statistical analysis showed that the Sargassum extract did not have any significant effect (p>0.05) on both the thyroxine hormone and the body weight loss during the transportation. Based on the results of the study it could be concluded that the Sargassum extract could stabilize the thyroxine hormone during the transportation so that it could prevent the body weight loss

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the heart activity of rats (Rattus norvegicus) at some environmental temperature. Ten rats (Rattus norvegicus), male, 2 months old, the average weight of 200 gr purchased at experiment Animal Care Unit Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. Allf rats were adapted in a cage with food and water ad libitum. Furthermore, each tail rat was measured heart activity is heart rate frequences (beats per minute), mean blood pressure (mmHg), systolic blood pressure (mmHg) and diastolic blood pressure (mmHg) at the environmental temperature of 30o C, 32o C, 34o C, 36o C, 37o C, 38o C, and 40o C  measured with a blood pressure cuff BP-98A at coccygea vein for 3 minutes at each temperature. The measurement was repeated 3 times. The data of the  heart activities obtained were analyzed by using one way analysis of variance. It was concluded that the environmental temperature of 30o C was optimal to the heart activities of the rats, including  heart rate frequences , blood pressure, systolic and diastolic blood pressures.Keywords:    heart rate frequences, blood pressure, systolic and diastolic, environment temperature, Rattus norvegicus

Abstract

This study were aimed to determine the dry matter and organic matter intake, nutrients digestibility, body weight gain and physiological status of male Bligon goats treated with feed restriction. Six Bligon goats average age of 12 months and an average body weight of 23.6 kg were fed 40% of peanut raughages (rendeng) and 60% concentrate. Goats were divided into two (2) treatment groups. Control goat treatment were fed diets based on dry matter (DM) requirements 3.5% of body weight, and feed restriction goat treatment were fed diets with 50% reduction of DM requirement. Feed restriction was conducted for 35 days. The variables measured were dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) intake, total digestibility nutrient (TDN) intake, body weigh gain, dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) digestibility, rectal temperature, respiration frequency, and heart rate. Data were analyzed by independent samples T-test. The results showed that the feed restriction significantly decreasedconsumption of DM (676.07 ± 14.76 into 372.30 ± 53.08) and OM (639.38 ± 15.89 into 349.88 ± 49.35), consumption of TDN (461.60 ± 10.23 into 253.99 ± 36.17), DM digestibility (74.39 ± 1.60 into 71.27 ± 0.89) and OM digestibility (79.42 ± 1.54 into 76.34 ± 0.24), but had no significant effect on body  temperature, respiration frequency and heart rate (pulsus) of male Bligon goat. Value of ADG was 55.24 g/day (P0) then increased to 131.43 g/day when the feed was filled back. A feed restriction up to 50% decreased goat production performance, but did not interfere with the health status of livestock (can be indicated from physiological status of goat still in the normal range).

Abstract

Digestive dysfunction is a common symptom of diabetes. Diabetes can lead to the loss of enteric neurons as well as nerve dysfunction and gastrointestinal complications. There has been no complete report of mienteric nitrergic of small intestines on hyperglycaemia condition, so the purpose of this study was to assess changes of nitrergic neural profile of small intestines on hyperglycemic Wistar strain rats (Rattus norvegicus). Twelve rats were adapted for 3 days, then they were randomly divided into 3 groups namely group I (K-1, as control), group II (K-2), and group III (K-3). Before treatment all rats were fasted for 12 hours, rats K-1 were induced with 1.0 ml of buffer citrate single peritoneal dose; rats K-2 were induced with 40 mg streptozotocin (STZ)/ kg body weight of single peritoneal dose; and rats K-3 were induced with 45 mg STZ /kg body weight of single peritoneal dose. On the 1st and 5th days after STZ induction, blood was collected through the coccigea vein to measure blood glucose levels and weigh the weight. On the day 5th the rats were uthanated with a high dose of ketamine, dissected and taken small intestines (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) for staining with Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate-diaphorase (NADPH-d). Morphometric changes of nitrergic neurons of the small intestine segments were observed. The results showed that on the 5th day increased blood glucose levels of the K-2 and K-3 groups were significantly higher than K-1 (P <0.01). The weight of three groups did not show any significant improvement difference (P> 0.05). The number of neurons in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum of K-2 group increased higher than that of K-1 and K-3 groups. These results indicate that in hyperglycaemic states, the number of nitrergic neurons increases (K-2 group), and there is a significant decrease in the number of neurons (group K-3) compared with K-1 and K-2 groups (P <0.01). The results of this study concluded, that the STZ induction treatment causes hyperglycemia. Hyperglycemia does not affect to the body weight and the number of  nitrergic neurons of small intestines in Wistar strain rats (Rattus norvegicus).

Abstract

The aimed of this study was to observe the effect of feed restriction and refeeding on body weight, physiological status and blood VFA on Kacang and Etawah Crossbreed Goat. Eight male goats consisting of 4 Kacang Goats and 4 Etawah Crossbred goats were used as experiment objects in this study. Both types of goats were subjected to the same treatment (three phases). First was adaptation, feed was given gradualy until reach the intended amount. Secondly, the feed was reduced by giving as much as 1.7% dry matter of body weight for each; thirdly, both goats were fed on ad libitum (refeeding phase). The variables observed were body weight changes, physiological status and blood VFA. The data obtained were analyzed by Various Random Test using Completely Randomized Design (RAL) on 2x2 factorial patterns. Duncan Multiple Range Test was used to test treatments that significantly different. The results showed that the pattern of changes in body weight on both goats breeds were relatively similar. Physiological status (pulse, rectal and respiratory temperature) on both breed of goats were not significantly different. However, decrease in the amount of feed impacted in the decrease in body temperature, pulsus and respiration, although it was still within normal range. The same also happened on blood VFA levels. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that breed differences breed of goat did not affect the physiological condition of goat. Differences in the amount of feed affect the physiological conditions and the performance of goat production.

Abstract

Kajian kasus ini ditujukan untuk mengungkap fenomena klinis dan reproduktif yang dialami 5 ekor kambing Bligon betina umur 2-3 tahun yang dipelihara oleh petani di Yogyakarta. Menurut informasi dari pemilik, kambing mengalami kekurusan dan tidak pernah menunjukkan gejala berahi. Hewan sudah diobati dengan ivermectin secara berkala. Pada hewan tersebut selanjutnya dilakukan kajian manajemen pemeliharaan serta observasi dan pemeriksan klinis (pemeriksaan fisik, uii berahi, pemeriksaan sitologi vagina terhadap organ reproduksi)dalam kurun waktu sekitar 60 hari (akhir Juli- awal September 2019). Pada akhir periode observasi hewan diberi perlakuan gertak berahi dengan pemberian injeksi PGF2-alfa dua kali dengan selang 11 hari dan pemeriksaan USG. Hasil pemeriksaan klini hewan tidak bunting, tidak ditemukan adanya ekto dan endoparasit, tidak ditemukan adanya perubahan fisik, dan tanda-tanda penyakit infeksi. Selama masa pengamatan hewan mendapat pakan berupa jerami kangkung pada level sekitar 2% bobot badan, pertambahan bobot badan harian yang negatif atau rendah, BCS buruk (1-1,5 dalam skala 1-5), tidak ditemukan berahi, gambaran sitologi bagina didominasi sel parabasal dan transisional, respon terhadap pemberian preparat PGF2-alfa tidak menunjukkan adanya perubahan fisik alat kelamin, perilaku berahi, dan gambaran sitologi apus vagina. Hasil pemeriksaan USG tidak menunjukkan adanya status ovarium yang aktif. Hewan didiagnosa mengalami Undernutrition dan anestrus. Berdasarkan pemeriksaan fisik dan pendukung dapat disimpulkan faktor lingkungan berupa asupan pakan yang rendah dan kondisi tubuh yang buruk berpotensi mengakibatkan gangguan reproduksi pada kambing Bligon betina di masa usia produktif.
