Abstract

Kesambi plant (Schleichera oleosa) is a medicinal plant belongs to family Sapindaceae, commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. In Indonesia, kesambi plants can be found in Java and Bali island. The purpose of this study is to extraction and antibacterial activity test of steam bark extract of kesambi against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Extraction was done by maceration method using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol. Antibacerial test using Kirby bauer method by measure inhibition zone. Phytochemical screening shown that n-hexane extract contain triterpenes and steroid compounds. Ethyl acetate extract contain triterpenes, flavonoid, steroid, and fenolic compounds. Methanol extract contain flavonoid, fenolic and triterpenes compounds. Inhibition zone of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts against E. coli and S. aureus at concentration of  5000 µg/mL showed 4.4; 7.9; 4.6 mm and 4.7; 8.9; 4.5 respectively, while amoxicillin and ciprofloxacin as positive control at concentration of 100 µg/mL showed 6.9 and 7.1 mm respectively. Kesambi extract have potential as antibacterial against E. coli and S. aureus. Keywords:Kesambi; antibacterial; Eschericia coli; Staphylococus aureus

Abstract

Interest in learning is a passion or a great desire for something that is closely related to personality, motivation, expression and self-concept, identification, heredity, and external factors. Interest in learning affects the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects of students. In this study, analyzed and interpreted student interest in learning through media-based learning Quizizz and students' perceptions of the media. Based on the analysis and interpretation of the data, indicators of student interest in the media Quizizz increased by 0.818 in the high category, indicators of student attention increased by 0.555 in the medium category, indicators of feelings of pleasure increased by 0.684 in the medium category, and indicators of student involvement increased by 0.599 in the medium category. Also, 76.32% of students thought that Quizizz media were very interesting, 50% thought that Quizizz media were easily applied, 86.84% thought that Quizizz media accommodate students to compete fairly, and 44.74% thought that Quizizz media were practically applied. Thus, students have a good perception of the Quizziz media accompanied by increased interest in learning. Keywords: Learning evaluation, Students’ perceptions, Students’ interest, Quizziz media

Abstract

Many proteins produced in E. coli accumulate in inclusion bodies. This study aims to detect the role of temperature in reducing the formation of inclusion bodies during recombinant human prethrombin-2expressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3) Arctic Express host. In this study, we created a host growth curve to find out the right time to add an inducer. The inducer used in our experiment was IPTG 0.1 mM. The fermentation process use a temperature of 12°C and 22°C. The results showed that recombinant human prethrombin-2 was successfully expressed as protein soluble using an optimum temperature of 12°C in E. coli BL21 (DE3) Arctic Express. It was indicated from the 63kDa protein band obtained from the soluble fraction on SDS-PAGE. The higher temperature of fermentation increased the amount of protein in the insoluble fraction due. It concluded that the fermentation temperature affect the rate of prethrombin-2 expression. Keywords: E. coli BL21(DE3) ArcticExpress, prethrombin-2, soluble, temperature

Abstract

Learning media is a tool that is inseparable from the learning process in the world of education, especially in the current era of the media world which is increasingly utilizing media innovation. This research is a development research that aims to develop hydrocarbon chemical media. The development method used is ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) which is modified by the researcher so that in this development research, only four stages are carried out, namely analysis, design, development and evaluation. The validation of the developed hydrocarbon chemical media was managed on a Likert scale of 1-4 by five expert validators, namely chemistry lecturers and teachers. The results of the analysis from the validation by expert validators on the feasibility of hydrocarbon chemical media according to the BSNP (National Education Standards Agency) modified with SETS eligibility are the content feasibility aspect of 3.58 (89.50 %); language feasibility aspect 3.68 (92.00%); presentation feasibility aspect 3.49 (87.25%); aspects of the feasibility of graphics 3.41 (85.25%); the feasibility aspect of implementing SETS 3.41 (85.25%). The average score of validation by the five validators is 3.54 with valid criteria and a presentation of 86.80% in a very feasible category. Based on the results of the validation of the hisrocarbon chemic media, it was concluded that the hydrocarbon chemical media was in accordance with the feasibility of the BSNP (National Education Standards Agency) modified with SETS eligibility and showed that the SETS-based hydrocarbon chemic media (chemistry comic) was very suitable to be used as a learning medium on hydrocarbon material. Keywords:ADDIE model, Chemistry comic, Hydrocarbons, SETS

Abstract

Ulos is a type of traditional woven fabric that is often used for traditional ceremonies in the Batak tribe. Although ulos with natural dyes are more valuable, ulos weavers have switched to synthetic dyes due to the difficulty of the dyeing process with natural dyes. This research aims to make natural dyes from extracts of plants. Salaon plants (Indigofera tinctoria L), ketapang (Terminalia catappa), and cocoa (Theobroma cacao L) are types of plants that are easily available in the North Sumatra region and can be used as natural dyes. BATAK-Co (BATAK-Colour): ulos batak natural dye paste is a dyeing product in the form of a paste that can be used to dye yarn to be woven into ulos. The product is made through an extraction and fixation process with whiting, tunjung, and alum, as well as deposition and filtering processes, so that a BATAK-Co product is obtained: Ulos Batak Natural Coloring Paste with 3 color choices, namely blue from salaon leaf extract, black from ketapang leaf extract, and red from cocoa fruit peel extract. The spectra of the three dyestuffs have been identified using FT-IR. Through the entrepreneurship student creativity program, BATAK-Co: ulos batak natural dye paste products have been produced, packaged, and marketed both directly to ulos weavers and through social media, and have a great opportunity to become new entrepreneurs. Keywords: Cocoa; Ketapang; Natural dyes; Salaon; Ulos batak

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a multifactorial disease defined by persistent hyperglycemia and impaired carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism due to a lack of insulin secretion. The objective of this study was to assess the Indonesian herbs which have the ability to act as human salivary α-amylase inhibitors, thus, that they can be implemented for medical purposes. In this study, fifteen Indonesian herbs were assessed for their capability as α-amylase inhibitor. The water-reflux method was used to extract all potential water-soluble active components. The Fuwa technique was used to test α-amylase activity. There were significant variations in the effects of herbs on salivary α-amylase activity, according to the statistical using one-way ANOVA and Post Hoc Tukey between the with and without inhibitors. According to the findings, Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) and pandan leaf (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb) had the highest inhibitory power (80%).Keywords: Diabetes mellitus; Flavonoids; Herbs; α-amylase inhibitors
