Abstract

Water is a molecule that plays an essential role in the muscle contraction process because muscle is a tissue that mostly contains water (75-80%). Therefore, athletes need to maintain fluid intake to support their physical activities when competing and when training. Nevertheless, in several studies, it was noted that some athletes experienced hypohydration or dehydration, which ultimately impaired muscle performance. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the hydration protocol intervention on muscle strength, endurance, and power performance. This research is an analytical study with quasi-experimental research methods, namely single-arm pre-post study design using secondary data. Subjects of this study were 69 athletes year 2020 (named consecutively: Muaythai 9, Pencak silat 12, wrestling 10, judo 18, and taekwondo 20 athletes). This research was conducted from December 2019 to January 2020. In the beginning, all athletes were tested for muscle strength using a leg dynamometer, then muscle endurance tests using push-up and sit-up tests, and muscle power tests using the triple hop test of the right and left legs. After the first test, all athletes were educated about the hydration protocol. The hydration protocol was determined based on each athlete's sweat rate (ISR) and the training characteristics of each sports division. Then, all athletes underwent the training for two months. After that, the same tests were performed. The result showed that hydration protocol influenced the performance of muscle strength, endurance, and power. Therefore, the hydration protocol is influential in maintaining a good hydration status in athletes so that the athlete does not experience hypohydration which will later impair the athlete's muscle performance. Therefore, it is crucial to apply hydration protocols individually according to the training program (volume of training), not only in martial arts sports but in all sports.

Abstract

A good mood will help a person at a productive age to do a good job producing goods or giving services. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Zumba exercise and body combat exercise on mood responses. The research method used in this study was the experiment method where, in 6 weeks, Group 1 carried out Zumba training, Group 2 carried out body combat training, and Group 3 carried out exercises that they commonly practiced (control). The samples of this study were 60 fitness members of Helios Fitness Center Bandung who were randomly divided into three groups. The mood instrument used was adopted from The Brunnel Mood Scale (BRUMS). This study revealed that both Zumba and body combat exercises could improve the sample mood compared to the control group sample mood with a value of t = 0.002 for the Zumba exercise group and t = 0.004 for the body combat exercise group. The difference in the effect of these two exercises was not significant, with the value of t = 0.557. The results conclude that both Zumba and body combat exercises can be used to improve and maintain a good mood.

Abstract

The study aimed to obtain empirical evidence about the direct impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the active lifestyle of high school students in West Java and the activities carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study population included high school students in West Java, while the samples were chosen randomly, involving 1,715 students representing each district in West Java. The research method used was the descriptive quantitative method. The instrument used was a physical activity questionnaire for children (PAQ-C). Data analysis employed Microsoft Excel and SPSS 24. The results showed that the student's active life behavior before the Covid-19 pandemic was mostly distributed in the high (857 people, 50%) and moderate (824 people, 48%) categories. Meanwhile, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the most distribution was in a low category (847 people, 49%). The level of student active behavior before the covid-19 pandemic was in the high category, while the level of student active behavior during the covid-19 pandemic was in a low category. This data showed that the COVID-19 pandemic decreased the student's active living behavior from the moderate to the low category. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the activities carried out were jogging, traditional sports, football, volleyball, badminton, basketball, futsal, Pencak Silat, strength training, and gymnastics. Meanwhile, the activities carried out during the pandemic included sunbathing, walking, jogging, cycling, watching more TV, playing games, sleeping, sitting around, and helping the elderly.

Abstract

Learning models in the 21st century are started to be widely used to develop students’ social skills in dealing with various problems. In reality, many students still have not been able to solve social problems. It becomes an ambiguity as the learning models are assumed to be influential in overcoming the problems through meaningful learning. Project-based and Cooperative Learning Models are learning models that are assumed to be effective in developing social skills. However, these two learning models have not received consistent conclusions because previous studies have not specifically compared the two models, especially in Physical Education. This study aimed to determine the effect and prove the effectiveness of project-based and cooperative learning models on student social skills in Physical Education, especially for Senior High School students. The implementation of this research used experimental methods with real experimental designs. Researchers selected two classes at a high school in Tasikmalaya City, West Java, Indonesia, using cluster sampling.  The data collection instrument employed a 3-point scale questionnaire ("0-Never," "1-Sometimes," "2-Very Often") constructed in google forms. The data analysis used in this study was a different test using paired t-test and independent t-test. The results showed that project-based and cooperative learning models were equally effective, as both showed significant improvement in the Social Skills of high school students in each group. This study concluded that both learning models effectively develop adolescent social skills. Therefore, if a project-based or cooperative learning model is applied, students can well develop their social skills.

Abstract

Physical activity is one of the vital components of students with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is endemic in various countries, including Indonesia. The purpose of the study was to determine the level of physical activity of students with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants of this study were 17 students with disabilities (intellectual disability, hearing impairment, speech impairment) aged 8-14 years. This research used a quantitative descriptive research method. The tool used was the Children's Physical Activity Questionnaire (PAQ-C) distributed through Google Forms. Data analysis included quantitative descriptive statistics analysis and the analytical need testing using IBM SPSS 24 applications. The results showed that the physical activity of students with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic was mostly distributed in the low category, nine students (50%). This study implied that students should maintain and increase physical activity by doing light physical activity at least 30 minutes a day and maintaining immunity by eating nutritious foods such as vitamins, fruits, vegetables, and healthy foods to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It will be interesting to study adaptive learning more deeply during pandemics in a broad scope in Indonesia for further research.
