Abstract

This study investigates images of black (and white) characters in contemporary American slavery-themed novel written by white authors, focusing on two novels, Property (2003) and Rhett Butler’s People (2007). The theoretical hegemony of Gramsci is utilized to suggest that if the slavery-themed novel is still rewritten in the era of twenty-first century, it should have a new insight about racism and should be also understood. Three points that revealed by this article dealing with hegemonic discourse on both novels; the representation of black beauty, black behavior, and the relation of black-white attested that the white supremacy is still sustained in the USA. The change of the story composition is there, but the racist ideology kept existed in the subtle way.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan peran tradisi kabhanti kantola dalam pendidikan karakter yang dapat dimanfaatkan secara terintegrasi dalam mata pelajaran seni budaya (lokal) di sekolah menengah di Kabupaten Muna. Kabhanti kantola merupakan sebuah tradisi yang berfungsi sebagai sarana komunikasi dan hiburan dalam masyarakat Muna dengan pola nyanyian berbalas pantun (folksong) yang diwariskan secara turun-temurun. Lokasi penelitian adalah tiga kecamatan di kabupaten Muna yaitu, Kecamatan Katobu, Kecamatan Watuputih, dan Kecamatan Tongkuno. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik observasi pementasan, teknik rekam, transkripsi, terjemahan, dan interpretasi, data kemudian dianalisis secara qualitatif-interpretatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makna dan nilai yang muncul dalam teks-teks Kabhanti kantola mengandung berbagai ajaran, nasehat, dan kritik-kritik yang membangun, membimbing, dan mengarahkan karakter masyarakat pendukungnya Nilai-nilai itu diantaranya adalah menumbuhkan rasa kebersamaan, ajaran mengenai etika dalam pergaulan, bakti kepada orang tua, pentingnya kemapanan ekonomi sebelum berkeluarga, dan larangan terhadap judi. Kritik, araban, dan pesan seperti ini dimaksud­ kan untuk menciptakan keserasian, keselarasan, dan keseimbangan sosial dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat, serta mempertahankan nilai-nilai moralitas yang diyakini benar oleh masyarakat Muna. Pendidikan karakter terintegrasi dalam pendidikan seni budaya yang berbasis budaya lokal sangat penting diterapkan di sekolah Menengah di Kabupaten Muna.

Abstract

This research is concerned to reveal the portrayal of the main character’s struggle against capitalism in the Shawshank Redemption movie. According to the purpose of this research, the researcher uses marxism as the basic theory related to the class struggle. The research question of this research is “How is the portrayal of the main character’s struggle against capitalism in Shawshank Redemption movie?”. The data in the research is collected through watching the movie intensively, identifying the data in detail which referred to the Marxism class struggle perspective, and cataloging the data by sorting the data analyzed in Marxism theory. The technique of data analysis is done through analyzing the data descriptively and interpretatively in showing the portrayal of the main character's struggle in getting his freedom and defeating capitalism in The Shawshank Redemption movie. The researcher uses qualitative descriptive analysis as the method to analyze how capitalism works in the prison institution in the movie. The research found that there is a distinction between the two social classes in the prison, the bourgeoisie, and the proletariat. The research found that Andy as the main character treated differently before and after being a prisoner, so he did the struggle by using his intellectuality to defeat the capitalists in the prison. In the conclusion, the researcher found the relationship with the position of the Capitalist triggers them to oppress the prisoners in the Shawshank prison, and the process of the main character’s in defeating the capitalist society.

Abstract

This study is aimed to describe the social condition and distinction in Victoria Aveyard’s novel Red Queen. The research question of the study is “How is class struggle represented symbolically in Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard?”. There are two sources of data in this study, they are the Red Queen novel by Victoria Aveyard as primary data and supported by other studies as secondary data. The data is collected through reading and understanding carefully the novel, identifying the symbols which referred to social class representation in the novel, identifying the data, and grouping it in a catalog based on specific headings. The technique of data analysis is done through presenting the data, describing the data, interpreting the data, and concluding the data. The findings of this study showed that the Red Queen novel portrayed two social classes in society. Red symbolizes the Rednecks in the United States as the working-class or proletariat and Silver symbolizes the bourgeoisie or rich capitalist people. This social distinction then creates a class struggle that leads the working-class to free from the exploitation of capitalists.

Abstract

This thesis aims to analyze the personality of the main character reflected in the movie Inside Out by Pete Docter using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis studies. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The data source in this study is Inside Out movie which is directed by Pete Docter, as well as articles, books, and theses that can provide information related to this research. Data is collected through watching, taking notes, taking pictures, and identifying. The results showed that in the main character there is Id, Ego, and Superego. Next as in the new students, there will be a directive from the teacher that we must introduce ourselves first so that we can be known in our environment that's what Riley did when entering a new school in San Francisco. Also for the sake of hobbies and support from her parents, he had to rise from the slump and he began to adapt well to her new neighborhood of San Francisco. In this case, the most guided in the main character is compassion, attention, and unyielding. Keywords: Movie, personality, psychoanalysis.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze racism in The Man Who Knew Infinity movie used Paradies, Harris, and Anderson’s theory. The Man Who Knew Infinity that released in 2016 is a film directed by Matthew Brown that features the character of a genius mathematician from India named Srinivasa Ramanujan who wants to publish his formula about mathematics in Trinity College. As an Indian, Ramanujan experienced various acts of racism committed by the British, both mentally and physically. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The data collected through four steps, such as watching, screenshotting, note taking, and identifying the data. The result of this study showed that the main character experienced racism because of his race and nationality. The kinds of racism that the main character experienced namely stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. Keywords: Racism, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination

Abstract

Information on the acceptance of the text manuscript is essential as a reference for Islamic teaching materials in Nusantara. This article aims to explain the reception of the ancient manuscript entitled "Masa'il As-Samarqandi" written by Sheikh Abu Laits As-Samarqandi. The study em­ployed philology research and descriptive analytic method with a literary reception theory approach. This ancient manuscript of Masa'il As-Samarqandi (MS) contains questions related to Islamic Aqidah. The study found that Masa'il As-Samarqandi manuscript is an explanatory text about the Islamic Aqidah. The text reception of MS is Qathrul Ghaits (Syarah Masa’il As-Samarqandi ) written by Syeikh Imam Nawawi Al-Bantani). Qathrul Ghaits makes commentary on the MS and adds the explanation from Qur’an and Hadist. The commentary contains the meaning of faith, the branches of faith, faith in Allah swt, faith in Angels, faith in the Prophets, faith in Allah's books, faith in the Last Day, and also discusses the explanation of the consequences of that faith, as well as its reflection on worship. This study indicates that Sheikh Imam Nawawi tried to explain each description of the text based on the reference source referred to. Keywords: Reception of text, manuscript, Masa’il As-Samarqandi, Imam Nawawi   ABSTRAK Informasi penerimaan teks suatu naskah penting diketahui, termasuk naskah kuno Masa’il As-Samarqandi ini yang merupakan naskah yang banyak digunakan sebagai rujukan materi ajaran aqidah Islam di Nusantara.  Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan mengenai resepsi teks naskah kuno yang berjudul "Masa'il As-Samarqandi" karya Syeikh Abu Laits As-Samarqandi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian filologi dan metode deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan teori resepsi sastra. Naskah kuno Masa'il As-Samarqandi ini berisi mengenai pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang berkaitan dengan Aqidah Islam. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa teks Masa'il As-Samarqandi (selanjutnya disingkat MS) merupakan teks penjelasan mengenai Aqidah Islam, salah satu kitab hasil pembacaan MS adalah Kitab Qathrul Ghaits (Syarah Masa’il As-Samarqandi Karya Syeikh Imam Nawawi Al-Bantani). Kitab syarah ini menjelaskan setiap bagian isi teks MS disertai dalilnya dari Al-Qur’an dan Al-Hadist. Awal penjelasannya berisi mengenai pengertian iman, penjelasan-khusus iman, iman kepada Allah swt, iman kepada Malaikat, iman kepada para nabi, iman kepada kitab-kitab Allah, iman kepada hari Akhir, dan dibahas pula tentang penjelasan konsekuensi keimanan tersebut, juga refleksinya terhadap ibadah. Dilihat dari sisi pembacaan terhadap teks Masa’il As-Samarqandi, Syeikh Imam Nawawi berusaha menjelaskan setiap uraian teks berdasarkan sumber referensi yang dirujuk.  Kata kunci : Resepsi Teks, Naskah Kuno, Masa’il As-Samarqandi, Imam Nawawi

Abstract

Latar Belakang : Penerimaan siswa baru adalah proses yang sangat penting dalam pengelolaan sebuah lembaga pendidikan dalam kelangsungsunag lembaga pendidikan itu sendiri. Proses penerimaan siswa baru dapat membantu lembaga pendidikan untuk menentukan jumlah siswa yang akan diterima di setiap tahun ajaran. Hal ini sangat penting karena jumlah siswa yang tepat dapat membantu dalammengelola sumber daya dan fasilitas yang tersedia. Dengan melakukan proses penerimaan siswa baru yang selektif, lembaga pendidikan dapat memilih siswa-siswa terbaik yang memiliki potensi untuk berkembang dan berprestasi. Tujuan: Tujuan dari penelitian ini mengetahui integrasi kurikulum dalam Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru SD Negeri 1 Cipeujeuh Wetan dengan penyusunan kurikulum dan program-program serta visi misi sekolah dalam penerimaan siswa baru. Berdasarkan analisis penerimaan peserta didik baru di SD Negeri 1 Cipeujeuh Wetan dicari solusi yang tepat untuk meminimalisirkan kekurangan pada sekolah negeri. Metode : Metode penelitian menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan triangulasi sumber. Hasil dan Pembahasan : Hasil analisis dapat disimpulkan bahwa minat dalam SD Negeri ini sangat tinggi terutama warga masyarakat tetangga kecamatan. Kesimpulan : Dengan melakukan proses penerimaan siswa baru yang selektif, lembaga pendidikan dapat memilih siswa-siswa terbaik yang memiliki potensi untuk berkembang dan berprestasi. Hal ini dapat membantu meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan yang disediakan oleh lembaga pendidikan tersebut. Proses penerimaan siswa baru yang transparan dan adil dapat membantu lembaga pendidikan membangun citra positif di mata masyarakat. Hal ini dapat membantu meningkatkan kepercayaan masyarakat dan potensi penerimaan siswa baru di masa depan. Dalam proses penerimaan siswa baru, lembaga pendidikan dapat memperhatikan beragam faktor seperti bakat, kemampuan, dan latar belakang siswa. Dengan memperhatikan faktor- faktor tersebut, lembaga pendidikan dapat menjaga keseimbangan di antara siswa-siswa yang diterima. Menjaga kelangsungan hidup lembaga pendidikan: Penerimaan siswa baru juga dapat membantumenjaga kelangsungan hidup lembaga pendidikan. Dengan menerima siswa baru setiap tahunnya, lembaga pendidikan dapat memperoleh pendapatan dan dana yang diperlukan untuk membiayai operasional lembaga pendidikan tersebut.

Abstract

Abstract This research aims to describe discourse and racism in the Hidden Figures movie using discourse and racism theory based on Dijk’s approach. The results showed that the ten aspects of Dijk's theory of discourse and racism could be found in several characters such as speech, expressions, and actions that refer to the use of discourse and racism in the Hidden Figures movie. There are two aspects of discourse and racism that are most dominantly depicted in this movie, namely aspects of nonverbal structure and aspects of syntax. In the nonverbal structure aspect, the visible form of racism is the depiction of facial expressions such as anger, annoyance and dislike as well as body movements refusing to interact for a long time with black people. Discourse and racism in the Hidden Figures movie also display racist behavior towards black people as a reflection of a system of prejudice, namely negative emotional reactions and stereotypes, namely judgments or assumptions based on groups and people's characteristics. This is illustrated by the experiences of Katherine, Dorothy and Mary regarding the separation of public facilities such as toilets, libraries and education. Abstract

This article intended to show the literacy program which aims to develop Community Reading Parks (TBM) as an effort to improve literacy activities in rural areas. The object is TBM Bina Cendekia, located in Tampo, Napabalano District, Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. TBM Bina Cendekia Tampo is one of the literacy activity places in rural areas that was voluntarily established in 2011 and received an operational permit in 2016. However, its management and literacy services are still very limited. The problem faced by management team is the lack of community motivation to visit the TBM that made to TBM is like suspended. The solutions offered in this partnership activity are, one of them, socializing a variety of literacy activities that are entertainment-oriented and educational. Reading activities remain the focus of activities by presenting an atmosphere of "mobile stalls". Other activities that can be carried out are activities to grow interests and talents, discussions, and competitions or exhibitions.
