Abstract

A research has been carried out on the identification of Newton's Law misconceptions in FKIP UNCEN physics education students. This study aims to describe the extent of students' misconceptions on the subject of Newton's Law. This study uses a qualitative method with a diagnostic test design that is equipped with a Certainty of Response Index (CRI) model and interviews. The data source was chosen by purposive sampling. In this study, the data source was physics semester VI FKIP UNCEN students. The focus of this research is (1) identifying misconceptions that occur in physics education students at Cenderawasih University on the topic of Newton's Law. (2) describe the percentage of misconceptions of physics education students at Cenderawasih University on the topic of Newton's Law. The results showed that 35.7% of students experienced misconceptions. Students who experienced misconceptions in Newton's First Law concept were (46.7%), in Newton's Second Law concept (33.3%), and in Newton's third Law concepts (20.0%). From the results of the interview it can be concluded that the main source of the cause of the misconception comes from the students themselves. Keywords: Misconception, Newton's Law, CRI.

Abstract

The purpose of this study are to describe the understanding of prospective teachers on the concepts of heat, work, and thermodynamic process and the difficulties they face in learning the concepts of thermodynamics. This research was conducted using qualitative method. Data were collected using a diagnostic test and interview. The subjects were students of physics education, University of Cendrawasih who had attended the lectures of thermodynamics, as many as 39 people. The results of this study indicate that student teachers do not understand the concept of heat, work, and thermodynamic process well. Students can analyze the problem and solve the majority of them (30%). The settlement issue is not based on prior knowledge that already exists. Students have difficulty distinguishing the work done by the system or the environment. Students also have difficulty understanding the process in a diagram or change it in a different diagram.

Abstract

Students’ scientific literacy is very important to determine the extent to which students are literate about the scientific concepts that have been learned. Therefore, prospective physics teacher students must master scientific literacy to solve various problems from the real world as individuals and must interact in society and the environment as social beings. The purpose of this study was to analyze the scientific literacy skills of students of the 2019 class of physics education study program on chapter heat and temperature. This type of research used to achieve these objectives is descriptive qualitative with qualitative analysis. The subjects in this study were Lecturers in the basic physics course I and students of the 2019 class of physics education study program at Universitas Cenderawasih. Data collection techniques used in this study were tests, interviews, and documentation. The results of the research from the test instrument showed that the scientific literacy skills of physics education students class 2019 were still low. The results of the interviews strengthen the findings that there are still many physics education students of 2019 who do not have scientific literacy skills of concepts on chapter heat and temperature.

Abstract

Contextual problems in daily life are related closely with scientific problem solving skills. It is necessary to prepared when students study science comprehensively. The aim of this study was analyzing students’ scientific problem solving skills during the learning process bysimulation of PhET located in 3T region. The outermost area in the territory of Indonesia is referred as 3T region. There are three conditional aspects of 3T region; terdepan (frontier), terpencil (remote), and tertinggal (disadvantaged). A number of 122 regions in Indonesia are included in the 3T region, one of which is Nimboran, Papua. SMAN 1 Nimboran, Papua  Indonesia, was chosen as research subject. We comprehended the analysis by using descriptive qualitative method. Participants were 51 students chosen from purposive random sampling technique above all students in XI-IPA grade of SMAN 1 Nimboran. Data collecting was done through triangulation using interview, observation, and documentation (test). The research was conducted during the second term. The obtained results were as follows: students can define the problem (10.20%), students can explore the problem (3.27%), students can plan the solution (10.98%), students can implement the plan (6.54%), students can check the solution (1.70%), and students can evaluate the data (4.44%). The mean result was 38.46. It was interpreted that showed students’ scientific problem solving skills in SMAN 1 Nimboran was low. Thus, the need to improve the skills is demanded.

Abstract

The problem that occurs in Lake Sentani is that it has been contaminated by parameters of TSS, BOD, Pb, Cu, and DO respectively with valuesof 76 mg / L, 4.63 mg / L, 0.035 mg / L, 0.03 mg / L, and 5.72 mg / L because these parameters have exceeded the quality standard according to environmental regulations. This study aims to determine the assimilation capacity of TSS and PO4 parameters and analyze pollution control models in the Tlaga Ria sub-watershed. The research method used to determine the assimilation capacity is a linear regression equation and in analyzing the pollution control model the interpretative structural modeling method is used. The results showed that the TSS assimilation capacity value in Lake Sentani was -12,700 tons/month. The value of water quality in Lake Sentani is above the value of the assimilation capacity, this shows that Lake Sentani has been polluted by TSS parameters. Meanwhile, the value of PO4 parameter assimilation capacity is 44.36 tons/month and since 2016 Lake Sentani has been unable to conduct self purification. The key elements of the Sentani Lake pollution control constraints in the Tlaga Ria watershed are weak implementation of environmental regulations, differences in objectives among stakeholders, differences in objectives between administrative areas, weak support of business owners, conflict of interests, and weak enforcement of regulations.

Abstract

For lecturers, in terms of designing learning strategies should consider the input characteristics such as the tendency of learning styles, motivation and other factors. Therefore important for teachers to be aware of her teaching style for there is no gap between lecturers and students. For students hendanya realize the type of learning style that is owned in order to choose the most effective way of learning according to need.Has done research on the effect of learning styles on student learning outcomes in course of basic physics II on physical education courses that aim to determine the effect of learning styles on learning outcomes in student of basic physics II. The population in this study were all students of physical education courses the second semester of 2009/2010 and the force is the total sample of 31 students. Data collection techniques were observation, questionnaires and documentation. Analysis using SPSS. Results showed that learning styles possessed by students of physics education courses the second semester is a type of visual learning style. Learning styles have significant impacts on student learning outcomes with t statistic p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) and the value of t statistic for the free variable of 8.850 at 5% significance level. Model of regression equation is Y = 18.292 + 0.892 X. The validation test showed the value of F statistic p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) and coefficient of determination or R-square of 0.73 which means that 73% of student student learning outcomes are influenced by the way of learning possessed by students. Abstract

The purpose of this service activity is to provide assistance to students in using Learning Media and improve students' mastery of concepts in using PhET Virtual Laboratory-Based Learning Media which is carried out in the teaching and learning process. The service method used is a descriptive method that serves to give an overview or describe the object under study through sample or population data as it is, without conducting analysis and making general conclusions. Achievements in community service activities found that assistance to students in using PhET Virtual Laboratory-Based Learning Media was proven by the enthusiasm of students in filling out Student Activity Sheets on the material Forms and Changes in Energy with an average score of 86, and increasing students' mastery of concepts in the use of PhET Virtual Laboratory-Based Learning Media carried out in the teaching and learning process is classified as very good category.
