Abstract

Manganese (Mn) mining in North Central Timor results in open land conditions that can change soil qualities. The aim of this study was to determine physical characteristics and chemical properties of the soil in the ex-manganese mining areas. The study was performed from June – September 2021. Soil characterization was carried out at selected locations where manganese mining was carried out both traditionally and using technology. The soil characteristics measured were texture, water content, bulk density, mass density, porosity, organic matter content, pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), organic C, total nitrogen (N), total phosphorus (P), total potassium (K), and total Mn. The results showed that the physical characteristics of the soil on ex-Mn mining land from 5 villages in TTU, NTT are dominated by sand texture which results in low water content (3.39 - 9.46 %), soil porosity (14.96 - 59.31 %), and high bulk density (1.18 - 1.49 g cm-3). Characteristics of soil chemical properties showed low pH (< 7), organic matter (0.06 – 0.81%), organic C (0.03 – 0.22 %), total N contents (0.05 – 0.22%), and high total P (14.77 – 61.44 me 100 g-), K (66.66 – 71.18 me 100 g-), and Mn (18.802 – 24.055 ppm) contents. Land must be reclaimed Reclamation can be done by land management, top soil conservation, planting pioneer crops or cover crops.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service is to increase the knowledge and skills of farmer groups in applying the concept of livestock-plant integration and verticulture to Pakcoy cultivation in yard lands. The methods used in this service are counseling and demonstration methods. This community service activities are carried out in the yard lands of the Sion Women's Farmer Group in Sasi Village, Kota Kefamenanu District, North Central Timor Regency. The activity involved a farmer group consisting of 6 (six) people, servants, students and the surrounding community who accidentally saw the activity. Based on the community service activities, it was found that the Sion Women Farmer Group was able to (1) use a verticulture system with the concept of livestock-plant integration in Pakcoy cultivation in yard lands, (2) utilize chicken livestock waste into bokashi as a composition for planting media for Pakcoy cultivation, (3) utilize yards as more productive agricultural land, (4) meet the food needs of the family, and (5) manage time and labor.

Abstract

Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan kesejahteraan Kelompok Tani Adika melalui program PKM budidaya ayam Kampung. Pengabdian ini dilakukan di kelompok Tani Adika, Kefamenanu, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Metode yang digunakan adalah participatory action research, kelompok tani dan Tim pelaksana bersama menentukan jenis kegiatan dan pelaksanaan kegiatan di lapangan berdasarkan urgensi dan prioritas. Solusi dalam mengatasi permasalahan meliputi kegiatan persiapan, menetapkan prioritas kegiatan berdasarkan hasil analisis situasi awal dan disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan dan kondisi aktual. Kegiatan selanjutnya yaitu penyuluhan, pelatihan/pendampingan sekaligus praktek pelaksanaan kegiatan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kelompok. Kegiatan meliputi pembuatan brooding, pembuatan ransum komplit, pemeliharaan fase starter dalam brooding, pemeliharaan fase grower dan pullet, pembuatan pupuk bokasi dengan memanfaatkan ekskreta ayam, penjualan ayam dan perhitungan ekonominya serta evaluasi kegiatan sesuai tahapan pelaksanaan. Hasil yang dicapai adalah ketrampilan kelompok tani meningkat dengan memanfaatkan teknik pemeliharaan brooding dan pemeliharaan fase pertumbuhan serta manajemen pemeliharaan lainnya seperti pencegahan penyakit dan vaksinasi dan pencampuran pakan. Dari kegiatan ini, kelompok mitra dapat menambah jumlah induk ayam yang terseleksi untuk pengembangan lebih lanjut. Pendapatan kelompok mitra juga meningkat sehingga berdampak pada kesejahteraannya. Berdasarkan analisis keuntungan, kelompok mitra mendapatkan Rp. 3.568.000 dengan volume pemeliharaan 100 ekor ayam kampung sejak DOC sampai umur 4-5 bulan.

Abstract

Selada (Lactuca sativa L.) merupakan sayuran daun yang berumur pendek dan dapat ditanam di dataran tinggi atau dataran rendah. Kebutuhan konsumsi selada yang semakin besar, diperlukan penanganan pembudidayaan yang serius. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh perbandingan media tanam dan pupuk organik cair terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman selada. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2022 – Februari 2023, di rumah kaca percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Timor. Metode penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan dua faktor yang diulang sebanyak 3 kali. Faktor pertama adalah konsentrasi pupuk organik cair dengan 4 aras sebagai berikut: Tanpa konsentrasi pupuk organik cair; Konsentrasi 400 ml/L air; Konsentrasi 500 ml/L air; Konsentrasi 600 ml/L air. Faktor kedua adalah media tanam (tanah : arang sekam : pupuk kandang sapi) dengan aras sebagai berikut; Tanpa media arang sekam dan pupuk kandang sapi, tanah : arang sekam : pupuk kandang sapi (1 : 2 : 3), tanah : arang sekam : pupuk kandang sapi (2 : 1 : 3), tanah : arang sekam : pupuk kandang sapi (3 : 2 : 1). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terjadi interaksi pada perlakuan kombinasi media tanam dengan komposisi tanah : arang sekam : pupuk kandang sapi (2 : 1 : 3) dan tanpa POC untuk parameter jumlah daun pada waktu pengamatan 21 HST dan 28 HST, parameter berat segar ekonomis dan parameter berat segar total tanaman. Tanpa menggunakan perlakuan konsentrasi POC perlakuan kombinasi media dengan komposisi tanam tanah : arang sekam : pupuk kandang sapi (2 : 1 : 3) mampu memberikan unsur hara yang dibutuhkan tanaman sehingga tanaman selada dapat tumbuh dengan baik. Faktor tunggal perlakuan kombinasi media tanam tanah : arang sekam : pupuk kandang sapi (2 : 1 : 3) memberikan pengaruh nyata untuk parameter tinggi tanaman pada waktu pengamatan 21 HST, 28 HST dan 35 HST, parameter jumlah daun pada waktu pengamatan 35 HST, parameter berat segar non ekonomis dan parameter berat indeks panen. Perlakuan tunggal tanpa konsentrasi POC memberi pengaruh nyata pada parameter jumlah daun pada waktu pengamatan 14 HST sedangkan dengan konsentrasi POC memberi pengaruh nyata pada parameter jumlah daun pada waktu pengamatan 35 HST dengan konsetrasi 400 ml/L dan parameter berat segar non ekonomis dengan konsentrasi 400ml/L namun tidak berpengaruh nyata pada parameter tinggi tanaman, berat segar ekonomi, berat segar total tanam dan indeks panen.

Abstract

Kelompok tani Perempuan Sion aktif dalam kegiatan bercocok tanam di lahan kering. Namun terdapat kesulitan dalam mengelola lahannya. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan ketahanan pangan kelompok tani Perempuan Sion melalui penerapan pekarangan lestari. Pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui sistem learning by doing dengan sosialisasi dan demonstrasi yang melibatkan kelompok tani Perempuan Sion dan mahasiswa sebagai implementasi MBKM. Kegiatan berlangsung dengan durasi 3 (tiga) bulan mulai dari Juli – September 2022. Tahapan kegiatan dimulai dari persiapan lahan, pembuatan pupuk bokashi berbahan dasar limbah dan kotoran ayam, persemaian benih pakcoy, pemupukan, penanaman, perawatan tanaman, dan pemanenan. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan pengabdian, kelompok tani Perempuan Sion mampu mengubah limbah menjadi bokashi, mampu mengelola lahan kering sebagai lahan pertanian yang lebih efektif dan efisien baik secara waktu dan tenaga, serta mampu meningkatkan ketahanan pangan.

Abstract

Oil palm plantation expansion in Indonesia continue to increase year by year. Several varieties of oil palm have been produced but not much information about the growth characteristics. Urea as nitrogen fertilizer has become a staple for the cultivation cycle of oil palm. The determination of nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) on palm oil varieties can be used to find out N requirement of each plant according to their needs. This research was aimed to analyze the growth response and NUE of palm oil varieties to fertilizer N at pre nursery. It was conducted in nursery area at Yos Sudarso Binjai Street and Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit, Medan from November 2016 until March 2017 using Completely Randomized Block Design followed by Scott Knott test at α = 5%. There were 35 treatment combinations that used seven varieties of Dura x Pisifera Medan Palm Oil Research Center (AVROS, Simalungun, PPKS 540, Yangambi, PPKS 718, PPKS 239, and Langkat) with N consisting of 5 levels (0 ; 0,5 g ; 1 g; 1.5 g and 2 g). The results showed that the application of N fertilizer influence significant effect on the growth of stem circumference and the number of leaves. The highest of nitrogen use efficiency is found in Simalungun varieties with N application of 1,5 g/plant.

Abstract

Manganese is a micro nutrient that plants need in small quantities. Manganese plays an important role as an enzyme activator, including phosphate transfer enzymes and enzymes in the Krebs cycle. The aim of this research was to study the chemical and physical properties of the soil on ex-manganese excavated land in Oelami Village, TTU Regency. This research was carried out in June-September 2022. Analysis of the chemical and physical characteristics of the soil was carried out in the laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Timor, and the Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Nusa Cendana University. This study used a descriptive experimental method which was carried out by survey and continued with laboratory analysis. Soil samples were taken at 5 points based on land use. Based on the results of the analysis of the chemical and physical properties of soil from ex-manganese excavated land, pH was 6.321 (slightly sour), CEC 33.46 me/100g (high), C-organic 0.22% (low), N-total 0.22% (low ), P-total 61.44 mg/100g (high), K-total 71.189 mg/100g (high), Mn-total 19,089 ppm (high), organic matter 0.81% (low), sandy loam soil texture ( sand 81.33%, dust 10.67%, and clay 8.00%), soil water content 8.611% (medium), soil density 1.25 g/cm3 (medium), soil specific gravity 1.47 g/ cm3 (low), and porosity 14.961% (high)

Abstract

This community service aims to increase the innovation of farmer groups in implementing vegetable cultivation technology in dry land through organic fertilizer and verticulture with a wick fertigation system. The method applied in this service uses counseling and training (learning by doing). The implementation was carried out on the agricultural land of the Nunuh Naek and Taruna Tani Farmer Group in October – December 2023. This activity involved the Napan Village Government and the North Bikomi District Agricultural Extension Officer to support the partner team together with the Implementing Team (University of Timor) and the Accompanying Team (Widya Catholic University Mandala Surabaya) to develop regional development programs in accordance with the relationship between Kosabangsa and RPJMD activities. The results of the service concluded that there was an increase in the ability of farmer groups to independently design verticulture with a wick fertigation system as an innovation in cultivating vegetables on dry land; able to apply Ribon Atom I as a soil amendment as well as adding nutrients to plants; and increasing the ability of partners in agribusiness management of horticultural farming.

Abstract

Mining activities are required to carry out reclamation. Reclamation efforts are aimed at restoring the condition of the mined land. The manganese mine in Kaubele Village has been carried out since 2011 but there has been no clear reclamation effort, causing the land to be abandoned. The study aimed to determine the vegetation and seed banks found on former manganese mining land in Kaubele Village, Biboki Moenleu District. This activity was carried out in July - December 2022 on former manganese mining land in 2010 and 2018. Vegetation was collected using a purposive sampling method. At each observation location, 5 main points were taken. Each point at each location is spread by 250 points with a 2 m x 2 m plot. The soil was taken at a depth of 0-20 cm and an area of 30 cm x 30 cm. Furthermore, it is placed in the nursery media for 3 months to find out the vegetation that grows. Vegetation and seed banks were analyzed based on species density, relative density, species frequency, relative frequency, and important value index. Vegetation analysis is a step in determining plants to restore ex-mining land. The vegetation in 2018 had more species compared to 2010. At both locations, there were the same 3 plants, namely Cynodon dactylon L. with an IVI of 21.421% (2010) and an IVI of 17.605% (2018), Chromolaena odorata L. with an IVI of 10.409% (2010) and IVI of 9.125% (2018), and Malvella leprosa (Ortega) krapov. with an IVI of 8.097% (2010) and an IVI of 7.031% (2018). Analysis of seed banks shows that there are 7 similar seeds found in different mining locations with respective IVI of Dactyloctenium aegyptium L. 78.550 % (2010) and 14.169 % (2018), Chloris virgata Trin 13.113 % (2010) and 8.986 % (2018), Panicum virgatum L. IVI 20.384 % (2010) and 46.834 (2017). (2018), Synedrella nodiflora L. IVI 22.068 % (2010) and 14.169 (2018), and Phyllanthus urinaria L. IVI 13.177 % (2010) and 12.957 % (2018).
