Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of listening comprehension in improving students speaking ability at English Study Program Islamic University of Indragiri. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. The population of this research is the students of English Study Program at Islamic University of Indragiri. The number of population and samples from this study were 36 people, taken using a total sampling technique. To determine the role of listening comprehension in improving students speaking ability, the researcher gave a questionnaire as an instrument. For data analysis, researchers used Likert scale as a measurement of the variables. The test results show the role of listening comprehension in improving students speaking ability at English Study Program Islamic University of Indragiri is in a high level with an average of 132.4. The researcher concludes that listening comprehension has a great role in improving students speaking ability at English Study Program Islamic University of Indragiri.

Abstract

This study was a descriptive study that aimed to determine students' learning styles in learning English. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tembilahan Hulu using random sampling technique. The data collection method used is a questionnaire. The results of this study of learning style tendencies indicated that the learning style with the number of respondents was 30 students with average score of 93.38 into the enough category. In addition, it was found that learning outcomes with visual learning styles were included in the “Enough category” with an average score of 95.13, auditory learning styles were in the “Good category” with average score of 104, and kinesthetic learning styles were included in the “Enough category” with average score of 81. Thus the learning style applied in the eighth grade was more likely to be an auditory learning style with the number of respondents being 30 students and obtaining learning outcomes in a good category with an average value of 104. From these results, it can be concluded that the eight SMP N 1 Tembilahan Hulu pay less attention to their learning style. This could be one of the reasons why some of the scores of their kinesthetic learning style showed less and bad categories. Besides that, it could be a reminder for teachers to be able to prepare strategies in growing student learning styles that could help to improve students in learning English. Abstract

This study aims to find the students' self-regulated learning in English of second grade at SMAN Islam Terpadu Syech Walid Thaib Shaleh Indragiri Teluk Sungka. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. To find the purpose of this study, the researcher used the method of collecting data through a questionnaire. After gathering the data, the researcher found that the results of this study of self-regulated learning showed that regulated learning with 35 students as respondents with an average score of 141.1 was included in the "good category". In addition, the factors that influence students' self-regulated learning are included in the "disagree category" could be seen from the third statement with an average value of 86. From these results, it can be concluded that the second grade students at SMAN Islam Terpadu Syech Walid Thaib Shaleh Indragiri Teluk Sungka have paid attention to their self-regulated learning in English.

Abstract

Language has a very important role in intellectual, social and emotional development and is a support for success in studying all fields of study. Seeing the importance of this, the English Language Education Study Program, FKIP, Islamic University of Indragiri (UNISI) conducted Community Service (PKM) at the Puri Kasih Orphanage, Tembilahan, Kab. Indragiri Hilir – Riau. This activity is a form of service to the community, especially as a form of implementation of the obligations contained in the Tri Dharma of higher education. The method of implementing this activity is in the form of a course. The purpose of this PKM is to improve English competence through weekly courses. This activity was carried out ± 1 month for four meetings. The PKM participants involved 23 students who resided at the Puri Kasih Tembilahan Orphanage. In this PKM activity, there are several course materials provided, namely: alphabet, self-introduction, greetings, verbs, simple past tense, numbers, personal pronouns, present perfect tense, body parts, possessive pronouns, and descriptive text. The results of this PKM activity show that participants are able to use and apply the material that has been presented. This is supported by the percentage results that 17% of the participants got very good results, 48% of the participants got good results, and 35% got pretty good results. And there are no PKM participants who get less results. This shows that PKM activities that implement weekly English courses are able to make a positive contribution to improving the English competency of PKM participants.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini didasari oleh minimnya minat siswa terhadap literasi terutama dalam menulis. Setelah melakukan pre-observasi terhadap kondisi siswa yang tinggal di lingkungan TBM Hamfara, tim PKM Prodi Bahasa Inggris tergerak memberikan pelatihan untuk meningkatkan minat literasi siswa tersebut dan diharapkan dapat sekaligus meningkatkan keterampilan mereka dalam menulis cerita dengan menggunakan gambar yang disajikan. Setelah dilakukan pelatihan dan pengajaran mengenai cara menulis dengan melihat gambar yang diberikan, diakhir proses PKM terlihat siswa begitu antusias dalam menulis dan kemampuan menulis mereka dapat dikatakan akan mudah berkembang jika mereka selalu melatih kemampuan mereka dengan bantuan media gambar seperti yang diterapkan di PKM ini.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana English Club berfungsi sebagai alat yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa. Selama kegiatan ini, menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif, dengan perpaduan teori dan praktek serta diskusi dan unjuk kerja di akhir pelatihan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa English Club membantu siswa lebih baik berbicara. Permainan bahasa Inggris, simulasi presentasi, dan aktivitas diskusi terstruktur adalah cara penting untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan diri dan keterampilan komunikasi verbal. Selain itu, berpartisipasi aktif dalam English Club juga membantu Anda memahami budaya negara dan menggunakan bahasa Inggris setiap hari. Melalui kegiatan PKM ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa English Club dapat dianggap sebagai sarana yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa, karena memberi mereka platform untuk melakukan latihan berbicara yang terorganisir dan menyenangkan. Penemuan ini meningkatkan pemahaman kita tentang peran English Club dalam pendidikan tinggi dan menunjukkan bahwa program yang lebih terfokus dan berkelanjutan dapat membantu meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara mahasiswa.

Abstract

Ada beberapa objek wisata yang dikelola oleh warga kelurahan Selensen. Salah satu objek wisata tersebut adalah Bukit Condong. Pengelolaan wisata tersebut masih secara sederhana. Pengelola hanya menyampaikan informasi lewat mulut ke mulut dan menunggu wisatawan untuk datang pada moment tertentu. Mereka tidak begitu aktif memasarkan paket wisata tersebut. Pemasaran wisata Bukit Condong juga masih dalam skala kecil dan lingkup yang terbatas. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan para pengelola wisata di Kelurahan Selensen pengelolaan sistem informasi dan pemasaran wisata Bukit Condong. Metode yang digunakan yaitu ada 5 tahapan: (1) Survei Lapangan, (2) Koordinasi dengan Aparatur Desa dan Masyarakat, (3) Sosialisasi Program, (4) Pelaksanaan Program. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah bertambahnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan pengelola wisata dalam penggunaan sistem informasi dan pemasaran wisata online yang menarik serta pemasaran dengan cakupan yang lebih luas.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to improve students' reading comprehension of recount text. It was implemented in the second grade of MTs Bustanul Ulum in Pekanbaru. This study included 30 students who had difficulty understanding recount text. As a result, the majority of them did not meet the English subject's minimum criteria. It seeks to determine whether the Retelling strategy can improve students' reading comprehension of recount texts, as well as what factors influence it. This was a two-cycle action research study. Each cycle included four meetings. The researcher and collaborator worked together to collect data through observation, field notes, tasks, tests, and interviews. The study discovered that implementing a retelling strategy could improve students' reading comprehension of recount text. This conclusion was reached based on an increase in the students' mean score in recount text reading comprehension tests from cycle I to cycle II. Furthermore, it was discovered that the material provided, the teacher's ability to guide and explain the material well, the students' motivation, and the appropriate strategy all influenced the change in students' reading comprehension of recount text. Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between the students' perception of teacher's performance and their achievement at eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Kempas. The research design is a correlation study and used a simple total sampling technique in determining the sample. The total of the population was 146 students and amount of sample are 70 students. The data were collected by using a questionnaire for students' perceptions and documentation for students' achievement. The indicators of measurement for students' perception are intelligence, behavior, dressing style, friendliness, and authority, body movement, facial expression, vocal intonation, and achievement. Whereas the indicators of students' achievement are a cognitive domain, affective domain, and psychomotor domain. From the analysis of the result, out of 70 students filling the questionnaire, the students’ mean score for students’ perception of teacher's performance at eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Kempas was 79.8 at Good level. Whereas the students' mean score for their achievement at eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Kempas was 82.1 at a Good level. For the correlation value, the researcher got r coefficient of 0.868, which is classified as a high level. For hypothesis testing, the researcher got rcalculated (0.868) is higher than r table (1%= 0.249 and 5%=0.238). Therefore Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It implies there is a significant and positive correlation between students' perception of teachers’ teaching performance and their achievement at eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Kempas.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the students' ability in using question tags in the modal auxiliary format eleventh grade of SMA PGRI Tembilahan. Based on the limitation of the problem, the researcher limits the problem in using question tag in modal auxiliary form just focuses on the use modal of can, could, will, would, and should. The researcher conducted a short observation to know the number of classes at the eleventh grade of SMA PGRI Tembilahan. The number of eleventh-grade students just consists of one class, namely Class A. The total of the eleventh-grade students is 20 students. The population of this research was all of the eleventh-grade students because the sample of population less than 100 the researcher used total sampling technique. The researcher used a quantitative method to get the data needed. The research instrument in this research is testing and collected by individual test scores of students where they are asked to identify and using question tags according to the instruction given with the total correct (25). So that, each correct question tag in the modal auxiliary form will be scored by 4. Based on the result of the test, the mean score of the question tag in the modal auxiliary form was 82.6. It was categorized very high level, which included in the interval 81-100. Where 14 students get in a very good score, 5 students get in a good score, 1 student gets in a moderate score and there is no get in a low and very low score. Based on that explanation above, we can conclude that the students' ability in using question tag in modal auxiliary format eleventh grade of SMA PGRI Tembilahan includes in the realm of the category nice and understanding to use question tag in modal auxiliary form.
