Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to know the students’ scanning ability in reading descriptive text. This research was conducted in the second year of SMPN 1 Tembilahan in November 2016. It was a descriptive research and used random sampling technique in selecting the sample. The total of the population in this research were 201 students and the researcher took 100 students or half of them to be the sample in this research. The data were collected by using a test in multiple choices. By the test, the researcher got the result that the students are able to find out the name of persons, numeric data, and the name of the place in reading descriptive text with the total mean score is 82.3 or in Very Good category level. The mean score of students’ scanning ability in reading descriptive text is different in each indicator, the students’ scanning ability in finding out name of person in reading descriptive text was 73.39, the students’ scanning ability in finding out numeric data in reading descriptive text was 83.14, and the students’ scanning ability in finding out name of place in reading descriptive text was 89.95. As a conclusion, by scanning the students understood and were able to find out the name of the person, numeric data, and the name of the place in reading descriptive text.

Abstract

This research was done because the researcher found that students’ perception in listening to English monologue text is being a question. Therefore, the researcher decided to conduct a research about it. Due to the fact that the researcher wants to find out students’ perception on listening to English Monologue text at the fifth semester of English Study Program of UNISI, This aim was achieved through descriptive qualitative design. The sample of this research was the students at the fifth semester of English Study Program of UNISI Tembilahan. They consist of 25 students. By conducting this, the researcher found that students’ perception on listening to English monologue text at the fifth semester of English Study Program of UNSI is categorized into less level. It can be interpreted that listening to monologue spoken text is difficult. Therefore, based on this result, the researcher assumed that the students’ low result is caused by their less perception of listening to monologue text.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to know the students’ scanning ability in reading descriptive text. This research was conducted in the second year of SMPN 1 Tembilahan in November 2016. As a conclusion, by scanning the students understood and were able to find out the name of the person, numeric data, and the name of the place in reading descriptive text.

Abstract

This research was done because the researchers found that most of the students' listening comprehension of the fourth semester was low. Therefore, the researchers decided to conduct research about factors that causing it. So that the researchers want to find out students' listening comprehension factors at English study program of UNISI. This aim was achieved through a descriptive qualitative design. The sample of this research was the students of the fourth semester of English Study Program of UNISI. They consist of 13 students. They were chosen by using total sampling technique. By conducting this research, the researcher found that there are three factors influencing students’ listening comprehension at the fourth semester of English Study Program of UNISI, they are reduced form, colloquial language and rate of the delivery. It can be interpreted that their low result in listening to English monologue text was because of those factors.

Abstract

Perception toward a material taught in the classroom is crucial to be investigated in which it influences the result of learning. The objective of this study is to identify students’ perception of listening to English Monologue in the fifth semester of English Study Program of UNISI. Abstract

Speaking is one of four skills that learned by the students in learning English as a foreign language. Through this skill they are supposed to be able to communicate and to express their idea, feelings, and thought orally in English. Students silence is a phenomenon that often occurs in speaking class where the students are not actively engage in speaking activity. It also happened to the eleventh grade students at SMA N.1 and SMA N.2 Tembilahan Kota. This problem motivated the researchers to investigate what factors causing the students to be silent in speaking class and what are the teachers’ efforts to cope with it. There were 144 students of eleventh grade and 5 English teachers as the subject of this research. The instruments were questionnaires, 15 closed-ended questions to the students and 10 open-ended questions for the teachers. The results shows that psychological factor is the dominant factor that make mostly students performed passively in speaking activity with percentage 42%, linguistic factor 39%, and socio-cultural 19%. While the efforts of the teachers to cope with students’ silence are implementing various strategies and teaching techniques, using audio visual media, and personal approach to help students’ difficulties in Speaking.

Abstract

Abstract The goals of this research are to identify the role of learning styles in the MTsN 2 Tembilahan academic achievement of students in English and also to know whether or not they have some learning styles to absorb and understand lessons. The results of data analysis obtained that visual learning style has no significant effect on students achievement because t test = 1.700 < t table = 1.97519 with a significance level of 0.091. While Audio learning style has an effect on students’ achievement because t test = 6.195 > t table = 1.97519 with a significance level of 0.000. Then, kinesthetic learning style has an effect on student achievement because t count = 3.009 > t table = 1.97519 with a significance level of 0.003 the learning styles. Besides, simultaneously or simultaneously all independent variables affect the independent variables. This is because f table 25.260 is greater than f table = 2.66 with a significance level of 0.000 less than 0.05. It can also be said that the Visual, Audio and Kinesthetic variables have a simultaneous effect on the Students’ English Achievement variable. Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between the students' perception of teacher's performance and their achievement at eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Kempas. The research design is a correlation study and used a simple total sampling technique in determining the sample. The total of the population was 146 students and amount of sample are 70 students. The data were collected by using a questionnaire for students' perceptions and documentation for students' achievement. The indicators of measurement for students' perception are intelligence, behavior, dressing style, friendliness, and authority, body movement, facial expression, vocal intonation, and achievement. Whereas the indicators of students' achievement are a cognitive domain, affective domain, and psychomotor domain. From the analysis of the result, out of 70 students filling the questionnaire, the students’ mean score for students’ perception of teacher's performance at eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Kempas was 79.8 at Good level. Whereas the students' mean score for their achievement at eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Kempas was 82.1 at a Good level. For the correlation value, the researcher got r coefficient of 0.868, which is classified as a high level. For hypothesis testing, the researcher got rcalculated (0.868) is higher than r table (1%= 0.249 and 5%=0.238). Therefore Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It implies there is a significant and positive correlation between students' perception of teachers’ teaching performance and their achievement at eleventh-grade students of SMK N 1 Kempas.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the students' ability in using question tags in the modal auxiliary format eleventh grade of SMA PGRI Tembilahan. Based on the limitation of the problem, the researcher limits the problem in using question tag in modal auxiliary form just focuses on the use modal of can, could, will, would, and should. The researcher conducted a short observation to know the number of classes at the eleventh grade of SMA PGRI Tembilahan. The number of eleventh-grade students just consists of one class, namely Class A. The total of the eleventh-grade students is 20 students. The population of this research was all of the eleventh-grade students because the sample of population less than 100 the researcher used total sampling technique. The researcher used a quantitative method to get the data needed. The research instrument in this research is testing and collected by individual test scores of students where they are asked to identify and using question tags according to the instruction given with the total correct (25). So that, each correct question tag in the modal auxiliary form will be scored by 4. Based on the result of the test, the mean score of the question tag in the modal auxiliary form was 82.6. It was categorized very high level, which included in the interval 81-100. Where 14 students get in a very good score, 5 students get in a good score, 1 student gets in a moderate score and there is no get in a low and very low score. Based on that explanation above, we can conclude that the students' ability in using question tag in modal auxiliary format eleventh grade of SMA PGRI Tembilahan includes in the realm of the category nice and understanding to use question tag in modal auxiliary form.
