Abstract

Teaching writing requires teachers to apply a suitable method which involves students mentally and physically. ESA Procedure has some unique benefit for both teachers and students since teachers begin the lesson with engaging students to the material to be taught and the classroom situation. ESA, with all its types, can be used to teach students to write texts in different genres and levels of difficulties. By this procedure, teachers can explore students? readiness to begin writing whereas students themselves have opportunities to develop their knowledge through the information obtained during the teaching-learning process. In short, ESA is one procedure that should be applied by teachers in teaching genre writing.

Abstract

One of the challenges in teaching Arabic at school and universities is developing the language milieu or language exposure. The language exposure, both in the classroom or outside the classroom, will determine the learners? success in mastering the Arabic language. This article discusses the efforts of two different institutions in developing the language milieu. Those institutions are Modern Islamic Boarding School Gontor and Islamic Boarding School of UIN Malang.

Abstract

Effective communication requires the mastery not only of grammar and lexicon but also of non-linguistic factors, such as knowing when and how it is appropriate to open a verbal communication, what appropriate topics and forms of address are to be used to whom and in what situation or condition. A verbal communication refers to any interactional talks involving at least two participants, a speaker and a listener, and they change roles. The conversation takes place in non-formalized setting, with no special rules of conversations. A verbal communication is a kind of talk most frequently and normaly found in real life. The widest context of the verbal communication is called speech community. A speech community is a group of people who do not share the same language, but share a set of norms and rules for the use of language. The speech communities are essesntially social rather than linguistic because it is cultural bounded. It means that every speech community has its own politeness in doing conversation.

Abstract

The Arabic literary work is very famous for its beauty. Even, its beauty is incomparable to the literary work of other languages. Yet, not all Moslems know vividly the history of the Arabic literature. To understand the Arabic literary work, a Moslem must master the Arabic language first. This article is aimed at explaining the development of the Arabic literature especially before Mohamed?s prophecy era.

Abstract

Many kindegarten start to introduce English as their local content subject, but most of them are did not provide the English syllabus. This study suggest to kindegarten teacher in developing English syllabus for kindegraten students, in order to they have any standart in teaching English. The model of development is adapted from the framework component of syllabus that is conveyed by Grave. This model consist of seven steps, they are: need assesment, determining goals and objectives, conceptualizing content, selecting and developing materials and activities, organization of content and activities, eveluation, and consideration of resources and constraints.

Abstract

Bahasa memiliki kaitan dengan kekuasaan, yakni bahasa dapat digunakan untuk merebut kekuasaan maupun untuk mempertahankan status quo. Karena itu, partai politik berusaha mendayagunakan bahasa sedemikian rupa dalam mengiklankan partainya agar mendapat simpati dan dukungan rakyat. Melalui iklan politik, para caleg dan capres ingin cepat dikenal oleh pemilih. Mereka percaya bahwa iklan yang bertubi-tubi memiliki daya magis untuk mengenalkan diri dan merayu calon pemilih secara instan. Karena tidak memiliki prestasi yang patut dibanggakan, mereka hanya mengobral sensasi, menonjolkan gelar akademis, dan narsis. Meningkatnya konstalasi politik menyebabkan  pertarungan iklan politik semakin keras dan tak jarang menjurus pada kampanye negatif. Melalui bahasa, para caleg dan capres melempar wacana yang mengagung-agungkan dirinya dan tak jarang menyerang lawan politiknya. Akibatnya, iklan politik tak ubahnya seperti iklan kecap. Pesan yang disampaikan masih berkisar pada produk, bukan gagasan. Iklan politik pun sebagian besar sekedar mengenalkan nomor urut, logo partai, atau menonjolkan figur tertentu.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang menggunakan disain penelitan tindakan kelas (PTK). Masalah utama penelitian ini adalah ?Bagaima­nakah peningkatan kemampuan menulis deskripsi melalui penggunaan media audio-visual pada siswa kelas X SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Malang? Sejajar dengan masalah tersebut, tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan me­­nulis deskripsi melalui media visual pada siswa kelas X SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. Penggunaan media-audio visual dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis deskripsi siswa secara keseluruhan, yaitu dari siklus 1 yang berata-rata 59,3 men­jadi 69,2. Siswa yang mencapai SKBM pada siklus 1ada 9 siswa atau 33,3% dan pada siklus 2 menjadi 16 sis­wa atau 59,3%. Peningkatan ini juga dapat dicermati untuk masing-masing tahap menulis deskripsi. Peningkatan kemampuan menulis deskripsi pada tahap prame­nulis terlihat dari rata-rata 85,2 pada siklus 1 dan 86,4 pada siklus 2. Kemampuan me­nulis deskripsi pada tahap pemburaman juga meningkat, yaitu dari siklus 1 yang berata-rata 67,6 menjadi 68,5 pada siklus 2. Demikian juga kemampuan menulis deskripsi pada tahap per­baikan, yaitu meningkat dari siklus 1 yang berata-rata 67,6 menjadi 68,5 pada siklus 2.

Abstract

As its most general level, the clinical management of children with pragmatic disorders involves two main types of activity, assessment and treatment or intervention. In order to establish which pragmatic skills are impaired, teachers or clinicians must first engage in a process of assessment. The results of assessment provide a basis for the planning of intervention as well as a baseline measurement of the children pragmatic skills. An equally eclectic group of techniques is used in the intervension or treatment of pragmatic disorders. One of them is Pragmatics Profile.

Abstract

The role of English as an international language is unavoidable force people to learn it in order to make them not to be left behind with others. Learning English in Indonesia, of course, needs a teacher as it is a foreign language here. This phenomenon make a lot of people want to be an English teacher as their job. However, to be a good teacher is not easy. One of the important things that someone should occupy is about the teaching method. Therefore, this paper tries to give a brief summary of well-known teaching methods and approaches in practice today for new teachers as a starting point from which they can modify their practice.

Abstract

The analysis of texts both written and spoken is not explicitly and systematically correlated to the discourse structure. Some critical linguistic contributions and social semiotics have been ignored. According to Van Dijk, a discourse is developed by three dimensions: texts, social cognition and social contexts. Quite similarly, Norman Fairclough?s analysis is conducted based on a main question how can a micro text be related to the macro social contexts.
