Abstract

Learning science concerning early childhood should focus on a fun learning process. However, children's interest in learning while participating in the science learning process is still low; some children are busy playing alone, disturbing their friends, doing other work, and going in and out for various reasons when science learning occurs. This study aims to increase children's interest in learning science through plant puzzle media. The research used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the Kemmis-Taggart model with four stages: plan, implementation, observation, and reflection. The participants are ten children aged 5-6 years at Al Faiz Early Childhood Education (ECE) Langsa, Aceh. The researcher used an observation sheet with four indicators: interest in learning, attention to learning, motivation, and knowledge to obtain improvement data. The results showed an increased children's interest in learning science in each cycle. The average score of children in the Well Developed (WD) category was 76%. In addition, children's activities also showed outstanding improvement during the teaching and learning process. The researcher concluded that plant puzzle media could increase children's interest in learning science. The implication of research related to the effectiveness of plant puzzle media on learning other than science needs to be studied further.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an Abhinaya Circuit video game media suitable for training gross motor skills in early childhood. This research uses Research and Development research. The method applied in this research refers to the Borg and Gall method, which consists of 10 research steps. In this study, only eight steps were applied; (1) conducting a needs analysis, (2) planning, (3) developing a product design at the beginning, (4) validating the developed product design, (5) revising the product design, (6) conduct trials, (7) revise the product (8) Production. The collected data in this study using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Data analysis in the form of descriptive quantitative. The results of this study were obtained: (1) the feasibility test results of the Abhinaya Circuit video media were carried out by two validators, namely media expert lecturers and early childhood physical-motoric lecturers. The media expert validator research results are 83.6% with valid criteria and can be used with a little revision. The results of the instrument validation of children's motor physicists were 94.6%, with very valid criteria so that they could be used without revision. (2) The results of product trials in terms of 3 aspects of safety, convenience, and attractiveness (zig-zag running, crawling, throwing balls, cranks, shuttle runs) obtained a total percentage of 94.6%, which was included in the feasible category. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the Abhinaya circuit media is safe, easy and interesting and can be used as an alternative to stimulate gross motor skills in early childhood, especially children aged 4-6 years.

Abstract

Reading is one of the most important skills and is often taught in elementary schools. Usually learning difficulties that are often found are reading difficulties (dyslexia). This article tries to explore the characteristics of the difficulties experienced by dyslexic students in the reading process at school, as well as efforts to overcome reading difficulties for dyslexic students in elementary schools through flashcard media and the 'Learn Letters' application on smartphones. The researcher uses a qualitative type of research with a case study method. The subject of the study was a 7-year-old dyslexic child with the initials APS who attended one of the public elementary schools in the city of Bogor. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out by data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Research findings show that APS can memorize all the letters of the alphabet, but cannot distinguish the letters [b] and [d], [m] and [n], and has difficulty writing some letters and numbers correctly. The results showed that the flashcard learning media and the 'Learning Letters' application could improve the reading skills experienced by the research subjects. Recommendations from research results on the effectiveness of the flashcard creative learning media method and the 'Learning Letters' application can be followed up by using other applications or more interesting media by utilizing digital technology

Abstract

Exploration of play in childhood is very important in child development. One of the environments that can support children’s developmentis the play environment. So far, many children’s play environmentuses analog playing media. However, with the development ofspaceand technology, the formation of space is increasingly diverse.Oneof them is a combination of space with video mapping. Videomappingis implemented in the playroom so that it can open new exploratoryinteractions for children. Children with an age range of 5–7yearsbecome the subject of this study as a development of previousresearchand at that age, children begin to recognize and understandthephysical environment around them so that they can form a behavior. This study aims to determine the role of analog media and videomappingin play facilities that can stimulate children aged 5–7 years toexploreplay to encourage child development. This research methodusesSpatial Affordancesin Childcare Interior Design (SACID)as theinstrumentfor calculating the breadth and depth of affordance explorationwith the basic theory of Gibson’s observation, perception-actionaffordance.The results show that there is more variation in the spatialcomponentsof analog media than in video mapping media. However, interms of depth, video mapping is stronger. While the breadth of thetwomedia shows a fairly high exploration. This study shows that bothmediacan support children’s development with the different potentialofeach exploration that occurs between analog media space and videomapping.Based on these findings, this research can be considered inchoosingthe use of analog media or video mapping in the early childhoodplayroom.

Abstract

Tantrum appears mainly at the age of 2-4 years old. This behavior is also found in children past 4 years of age. Even though tantrum is the most common behavior problem in young children, they can also cause behavior issues in the future, such as; becoming withdrawn, violent, or having a verbal outbursts and antisocial behavior. In that case, psychological intervention is needed. This study uses a new approach of Brainspotting therapy to treat tantrums in young children. Bainspotting is a psychotherapeutic model that has been conceptualized as a brain and body-aware relational attunement process. Thus, the study's main objective is to determine whether Brainspotting is an effective alternative approach to address the issue of tantrums in young children. A study case of the qualitative method was applied, and data was collected by observing the progress of a 6 years old's child each session, interviewing and comparing assessment of present challenges of a child before and after 10 sessions. The result indicates that Brainspotting is effective as an alternative to reducing tantrums and developing emotional regulation in young children.

Abstract

The present study focused on teachers’ perceptions of how teacher talk works in the classroom and some challenges they might encounter during initiating interaction to encourage students. A classroom observation was done to portray the data of the learning process and teachers’ interview was also conducted to discover insights about teacher talk and the challenges encountered in the classroom interaction. Findings demonstrated that the teachers enacted dominant English communication as the input rather than using students’ first language. They felt increasing the use of the target language would be more challenging as it is influenced by some aspects from both teachers and students’ motivation, attitude, and proficiency. In addition, teacher talk is varied in some extents based on the teacher and student factors. The findings also showed that teacher talk mostly occurred in the form of asking questions, giving directions, explaining the lesson, and praising the students. In addition, as the students were considered young learners, it was found that classroom interaction and language choice must be adjustable in order to make communication become more effective.
