Abstract

The present study aimed to explore the students’ writing difficulties examined from the five dimensions and common errors faced by students in Essay Writing Course. Descriptive research with explanatory design was employed in this study to investigate the students’ writing difficulties which are analyzed from writing score and the sentence constructions in their cause-effect essay writing. This study purposively sampled 25 fourth semester students who join the Essay Writing Course. Essay Writing Tests (EWT) is used to get the data of students’ writing. The results of data collection were in the forms of students’ writing scores compared from each dimension (content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics) and error analysis based on the word and sentential levels. The errors analyzed, then, were classified into error types. The results yielded that students’ writing dimensions are between 2-3 points based on the scoring rubric which means they are still in basic and below basic writers. In addition, the most error types analyzed covered capitalization, punctuation, sentence fragments, spelling, subject-verb agreement, run-on sentences as literal translation from Indonesian, word choices, nouns, preposition, verbs, adjective, articles, word order, verb tense, passive voice, possessive (‘s), and transition words. The result of study could be a basic data for the English teachers/lecturers to know the students’ writing difficulties thoroughly from each dimension of writing and error types and further to assist them to write better. Abstract

The development of knowledge and technology nowadays has reached all aspects of life including education field. The digital learning invites the lecturers to be able to apply the system of E-learning as the use of technology development. One of E-learning application in education is schoology. Schoology has some interesting teaching and learning features like groups, resources, courses, quiz and attendance. The difference between the usual teaching and learning process with E- learning is from the centered of the activity, usual class is lecturer-centered the but e-learning is student-centered. Abstract

This study aims to discuss the importance of High Order Thinking Skills in relation to solve mathematical problem solving. The method used is to describe the learning of mathematics related to problem solving using high-level thinking skills based on the results of a supportive reference study. Problem solving is a high-level mental process and requires a more complex process of thinking. Problem solving is a non-routine problem, meaning that the problem cannot be solved directly. This problem requires higher thinking skills in solving them. High Order Thinking Skills in Bloom Taxonomy in the cognitive domain consist of six levels: remembering, understanding, understanding, applying, analyzing, analyzing and evaluating (create). With high-level thinking skills a person will be able to solve problem solving problems properly. Given the importance of high-level thinking skills, these skills must be possessed by each student in answering mathematical problem solving. Abstract

At present, technological progress is very rapid, including the advancement of smartphone use. Based on the results of observations of biology subjects the majority of students are passive, students feel saturated with conventional methods, students still depend on the delivery of material delivered by the teacher. Therefore, researchers used smartphones as a medium to support the learning process. This study used action research (PTK) design. The data were collection using quantitative tests of cognitive learning outcomes, qualitative observations and documentation files. The subjects of this study were 22 students. Based on the observations of the activities of students in cycles 1 and 2 there was an increase from 65.9% to 73.9% of active criteria, with an increasing percentage of 8%. learning outcomes were improved in cycles 1 and 2: cycle 1 (pretest) 36.8%, (post-test) 64.9%. the improvement of learning outcomes in cycle I and 2 was 4.3%, according to the results of the first cycle cognitive gain score test obtained 0.44 in medium criteria, the results of the second cycle cognitive gain score test obtained 0.45 in medium criteria. The improvement of cognitive test was 0.01. Based on these comparisons, it was concluded that E-Book media with EPUB extension could improve student learning activities and outcomes. Abstract

Adapting the theory of Need Analysis as proposed by Dudley-Evans and St. John (1998), this present study explores the vocational students’ perceptions on their English language needs. Therefore, a descriptive survey was employed. One English teacher and the thirty-two students of SMK Asrama Pembina Masyarakat, Class XI, computer engineering and network (TKJ) program were voluntarily involved in this present study as research participants. The data with regard to the students’ subjective needs were gathered through questionnaire. Semi-structured interview was employed to record the data related to the English teachers’ perception toward the needs of research participants. The findings revealed there had been so many different perceptions with regard to the students’ needs. Moreover, this present study also discussed pedagogical implication on teaching-learning practices. Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between parents’ democratic parenting and students’ career decision-making ability at SMAN 3 Jember. This quantitative descriptive correlational research sampled 100 students out of 152 population of class XII student at SMAN 3 Jember using proportionate random sampling technique. From the results of the descriptive analysis, the average level of students’ career decision-making ability is included in the high category with a percentage of 70.94% and the average level of parents’ democratic parenting is included in the good category of 76.08%. The results of the correlation statistical analysis obtained the correlation coefficient r = 0.481 (r> 0.195) with a significance of p = 0.000 (p <0.05). The discussion in this study was directed to find out the applications of parents’ democratic parenting with career decision-making abilitiy in class XII of SMAN 3 Jember. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve students’ learning outcomes and learning independence through the Reciprocal Teaching Model by applying ARCS motivational strategies. The research was conducted at SMK 1 Lumajang. The research subjects were students of class XI PMS 2 on 36 Productive Marketing Subjects. The study consisted of three cycles carried out on the 1st, 8th and 15th February 2018 even semester 2017/2018. Students’ independence during teaching and learning increases. Students' independence at a minimum of cycles I, II and III were respectively 17; 50; 50 and the averages were respectively 60.2; 83.3; 88.4. The results of formative test show an improvement in learning outcomes. Students’ learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle III occured a shift in the students’ score distribution. The lowest scores of cycle I, II, III were 50; 55 and 70. The highest scores of cycles I, II, III were 80; 90 and 100. Abstract

This research aims to improve MTs students’ learning interest at Al. Ma’arif  Wuluhan class Vll C through group counseling services with 30 students being studied. The data collection methods used were Observation and Questionnaire, which were then analyzed using descriptive data analysis. Based on the results of the initial observation by giving a questionnaire and obtaining the main data with the percentage of learning interest is 33,3% of 30 students, after being given action in the first cycle, the learning interest inceased with a percentage of 55% of 20 students, after continuing in cycle II the level of students’ learning interest increased with a percentage of 88,8% of 9 students. Providing group counseling services shows that students’ learning interest in schools has increased. Research avtivities have been categorized as successful becauce they reach a percentage above the success indicators that have been set at 80% they percentage of students’ interest in learning at school.  Keywords: group counseling, learning interest.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve thinking creativity and learning achievement of Marketing Productive in class XI PMS 2 of SMK Negeri 1 Lumajang in the 2017/2018 Academic Year through the application of a cooperative learning model of two stay two stray techniques using the scientific approach. The type of research is Classroom Action Research. The research subject was XI PMS 2 students from SMK Negeri 1 Lumajang for the 2017/2018 Academic Year. Data collection techniques used were (a) observation, (b) interviews, (c) tests, and (d) documentation. Research procedures include (1) action planning; (2) implementation of actions; (3) observation; and (4) reflection. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the cooperative learning technique model of TSTS using the scientific approach can improve thinking creativity and learning achievement. Abstract

Self esteem can occur in adolescence, one of which is at school age. School age is the transition period of individuals from childhood to adulthood, so that many problems are faced, both with oneself and with the surrounding environment. This study aims to determine the increase in student self esteem by providing personal social guidance services. This study used guidance and counseling action research (PTBK). The population is determined as the research respondents. The data collection methods used in this study were questionnaire method, and observation. Based on the results of the study; the first cycle at the first meeting, the respondents still showed low self esteem, which showed only 50%. While in cycle 2, researchers emphasized more on providing reinforcement to respondents so that the self esteem can increase to 70%. This can be seen from the column showing that self esteem has increased to 70%. Keywords: self esteem, social personal guidance
