Darmabakti Cendekia: Journal of Community Service and Engagements (DC) is a scientific journal in community service and engagements published by Faculty of Vocational Studies Universitas Airlangga. Abstract

Background: The dentist who handles a broken acrylic resin denture base case will send the denture to be repaired by a dental technician in the dental laboratory. The transfer of work is likely to pose a risk of cross-infection (for example AIDS, hepatitis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and herpes. Purpose: To transfer science and technology based on community needs objectively to get a strong foundation in implementing health management for dental technicians. Methods: Training on how to use disinfection materials as well as participatory counseling using slides through LCD projectors, and using props along with interactive discussions and also mentoring when trainees take disinfection measures. Results: The implementation includes 3 activities, that is counseling, training and monitoring Counseling is carried out by providing knowledge about how to disinfect dentures, then training in how to do disinfection, the way is to train dental technicians to disinfect using chlorhexidine by spraying on the denture surface, then monitored. Conclusion: So far the dental laboratory has not carried out any disinfection at the time of denture repair. With counseling and training in this community partnership program, dental technicians know the importance of disinfection denture to prevent cross infection, so that it will then do it.

Abstract

Background: The balanced  nutrition  paradigm is currently unknown  to  the  general public, especially school-age children. The old paradigm of four healthy five perfects is still taught in schools. Whereas in the new paradigm of balanced nutrition, in addition to the principle of nutrition that must be consumed in a balanced manner, there is another message that must be conveyed, namely physical activity at least 30 minutes every day, regular exercise, drinking 8 glasses of water a day, washing hands before and after eating and always monitor your weight. Purpose: This community service activity aims to improve balanced nutrition knowledge in elementary school age children. Method: The method of community service is through lectures and games for ice breaking so that the atmosphere becomes more fun. Results: Most of the students of SDN Kalisari 1 Surabaya were female (54%), 10 years old (62%), and parents had jobs in the “other” category namely construction workers, janitors and farm workers (38%). As many as 83% of students have breakfast habits and 88% of students often access the internet. The level of student’s knowledge of balanced nutrition is included in the sufficient category (59%). There is a difference in the level of knowledge before and after counseling about the concept of balanced nutrition (α = 0.04). Conclusion: Efforts to increase knowledge of balanced nutrition with counseling and game methods are considered effective because there is a significant increase in the level of knowledge of SDN Kalisari 1 Surabaya students.

Abstract

Background: The  community  made  various  efforts to  be  able  to  overcome  the health complaints that they experienced, whether it was done alone by people who experienced health complaints or by healthy families. Efforts made by the community in overcoming health complaints suffered include self-treatment based on the knowledge they have by massage or consuming materials or processed from plants or animals, conducting consultations or examinations on traditional and medical health facilities, and can also bring in officers home health. Purpose: Increasing public knowledge regarding how to process traditional medicines and independent acupressure. Method: Providing knowledge to the Independent Care Cadres of Gading Surabaya Health Center regarding how to process traditional medicines and independent acupressure through demonstration of making traditional medicines and independent acupressure. Results: The activity of Independent Care of Family Medication and Acupressure Care for Cadre groups in Gading Surabaya Health Center went well. The cadre welcomed the program and they participated in the coaching activities actively. Conclusion: The Independent Care of Family Medication and Acupressure care for Cadre groups coaching program in Gading Surabaya Health Center is very beneficial for the community in overcoming minor ailments without taking chemical drugs.

Abstract

Background: The number of people with diabetes mellitus in Indonesia is increasing every year. The data in 2016 showed that 1 of 11 adults could have diabetes mellitus. Uncontrolled and untreated diabetes mellitus can cause complications. Objectives: This activity aimed to determine the group of age that have a potential risk of hypertension and diabetes so that it could minimize the prevalence of disease and optimize human productivity. Methods: (1) Counseling about hypertension and diabetes, (2) Screening the people with a potential risk of hypertension using tensimeter and diabetes prediction using point-of-care testing (POCT) and urine dipstick. Results: The data were collected from 75 respondents with characteristics about 85,33% female and 14,67% male. About 25 respondents (33,33%) were suspected of hypertension. Based on age group, it showed that the highest incident rate of hypertension was found in the age group of 41-60 years (41,86%), followed by the age group of 61-80 years (20%), 21-40 years (13,33%), and age under 20 years and above 80 years (0%). The majority of respondents had a normal glucose level(90,67%). Based on gender, there was 1 male respondent (9,09%)and5female respondents  (7,81%) having a glucose level higher than normal value (hyperglycemia). Conclusion:  The age group with the highest potential risk for hypertension was 41-60 years, while for diabetes was 61-80 years. This activity provided information to prevent the potential risk leading to hypertension and diabetes.

Abstract

Background: Industrial centers (UKM) in Malang are scattered throughout the city. According to data from the Malang Cooperative and UMKM Office, only 30% have gone online from the 70,000 UMKM currently available. This is an opportunity for young people to be able to help UMKM to go online. The main obstacles experienced by UMKM are financing problems, technology and product innovation, market research and inefficiencies. Purpose: To solve the problems of MSMEs in Malang City, especially in the field of technology and product innovation for women groups, UKM Craftsmen Sanitair Klaseman Malang. Method: Training on making e-commerce based marketing channels and social media which includes training on making e-commerce channels through social media and the internet. Results: The UKM of sanitation products in Malang were mostly dominated by 50% flower pots and 25% carvings. The use of social media for UKM partners had an impact on increasing orders from consumers through social media. The types of social media used was Whatsapp (100%), Instagram (55%), and Facebook (87.5%). Communication of sellers and buyers was effective and efficient through media chat messenger. Means of direct contact between sellers and buyers reached 87.5% through social media. Conclusion: Partners got increased orders from consumers after using social media. They could also grow their business bigger because they could have transaction directly with bank transfer payment method.

Abstract

Background: Application of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) is not only the scope of the company but also be started from the household and school environment. There are many potential hazards for students at school and can cause an accident or illness for students if not controlled well. Primary school is a form of formal education for children aged 6 to 12 years. Child is curious about a concept. During this period, children have begun to be able to distinguish between good and bad based on their own reasoning. Purpose: The right method was needed to motivated children aged 6-12 years to play safe at the school environment and home. Method: The role play method was used as a tool to stimulate students aged 6-12 years to be able to increase awareness of the importance of applying OSH in the school and home environment especially when playing futsal and bicycles. Result: The understanding scores of playing material was safe during the pre-test with a very good rating of 66.67%, and those who lack understanding 12.90%. An increase in scores after the role play of the criteria was very good up to 69.15% while the lack of understanding criteria can be reduced until 4.25%. Conclusion: The material thas has been given has a positive impact on students awareness. These activities can be improved through children habituation to live safety consciously.

Abstract

Background: The older people get, the more elderly people who experience health complaints. The elderly morbidity rate in 2014 was 25.05 percent, meaning that around one in four elderly people had experienced pain in the past month. Purpose: Providing guidance and knowledge to improve the health of the elderly community in RW VII Jagir. Methods: Coaching is carried out by using a tutorial and visualization method using LCD. The material provided includes the processing of healthy foods, the introduction of traditional medicine, independent acupressure, healthy work attitudes in the household, dental and oral health, and medical check up. Results: The people who attended this activity were 65 people, according to the expected target. The community welcomed with enthusiasm, as evidenced by a large number of people present and the high level of community participation until the end of the event. In addition, there was also an increase in the mean value of the questionnaire before and after the activity, from 15.62 to 36.14. The results of 55 participants who did blood pressure checks, 28 people had normal blood pressure and 27 people experienced blood pressure that was more than normal. Likewise, the results of blood sugar tests when, of the 55 people who took blood sugar at their time, 43 had normal blood sugar levels or less than 200 mg / dL; and 12 people have blood sugar levels that are above normal or > 200 mg / dL. Conclusion: Community service activities are very useful for the elderly and also able to increase the knowledge of the elderly.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem in infants characterized by a length or height that is lacking compared to age. The prevalence of stunting in Medokan Semampir Village was 30.48% while the WHO standard states that free stunting if it is less than 20%. Purpose: This activity aims to provide knowledge and skills to mothers who will and already have a toddler to prevent stunting in RW 02 Medokan Semampir. Methods: This program was implemented in 4 steps those are planning, acting, observing, and evaluating. Results: The results of the health examination for toddlers who participated in the activity showed that there were no cases of stunting, but there were 3 toddlers who were underweight, so it needed to be increasingly inadequate nutrition. Whereas the mother’s examination showed 6 people who had low Hb levels and 2 people had high blood sugar levels. Toddler massage training provides the skills of mothers who had toddlers and toddler cadres in RW 02 to take independent action on their babies. Balanced nutrition counseling, exclusive breastfeeding, and mandatory immunization rose participant awareness in efforts to prevent stunting. Whereas the socialization of dental and oral health provided knowledge on how to clean the teeth of mothers and toddlers correctly and safely to avoid dental caries which can cause stunting in toddlers. Conclusion: This program was very useful for mothers and toddlers because it provides knowledge and skills in efforts to prevent the incidence of stunting toddlers.

Abstract

Background: During the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the Internet of Things (IoT) is the main pillar of people and machines connected to each other. It can be an intelligent system when combined with a robot. This is what underlies the importance of robotics and IoT training, especially to be introduced early on. Purpose: This activity aimed to improve students' knowledge and skills in technology. The target of this activity is high school students in Jombang City. Methods: It starts from the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. Auditory, visual and kinesthetic techniques are used in this activity, which is in the form of interesting learning media such as power points, videos, as well as demonstrations and practices. Data collection techniques such as questionnaires, pre-test, and post-test, and running tests were carried out to measure the level of skills, knowledge, and satisfaction of participants. Results: A total of 85% of participants did not know about IOT and 83% of the participants already know what the robot. But only 17% ever make robots. Conclusion:  After this activity the participants' understanding increased by 20%. Their skills also increased as evidenced by the participants programming themselves so that the robot can run well on the track.

Abstract

Background: Waste is part of environmental problems because the increase in volume of waste correlates with population growth and efforts to reduce waste are still limited. Pataan Village which is one of the villages in Sambeng Subdistrict is also inseparable from the garbage problem. Most of the household waste will be collected in the yard and then burned, both organic and inorganic waste. In Pataan Village, there is already a 3R Waste Disposal Site (TPS) which functions as a place to collect garbage and a place to sort waste, unfortunately it is not functioned optimally due to various obstacles. Purpose: Solve the problem of managing organic waste especially corncobs by maximizing it as a mushroom planting media. Method: Socialization, training and assistance of mushroom cultivation using corncobs media to youth groups who are members of the Karang Taruna Organizations in Pataan Village. Results: The results of training and assistance for 25 days, it can be noted that the optimization of corncobs as a medium for mushroom cultivation can be an effective solution in handling the waste problem in Pataan Village and has the potential to bring up new commodities in Pataan Village in the form of janggel mushrooms. Conclusion:Partners get increased knowledge and skills in utilizing corncobs as a medium for cultivating janggel mushrooms. So that in the next period can be given about how the processing of the janggel mushroom in order to have added value.
