Udayana Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (UJoSSH) is an international and an open access journal which is published by Research and Community Services Institutes of Udayana University. UJoSSH focuses on the development of the humanities studies and social sciences. The aim of our journal is to promote a principled approach to research on the area of social sciences and humanities in general, which may include, but not limited to Linguistics and Literature, Arts, Cultural Studies, Law, Economics and business, Tourism, Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Education, Library Sciences UJoSSH has a full commitment towards the authenticity of the articles and papers published. Abstract

This study discussed about English-Indonesian articles in Colours Magazine that consists of tourism terms found in the article and translation procedures used by the translator in translating the articles. The data was taken from a magazine entitled Colours. The writer used three English-Indonesian tourism articles of April and December 2019 editions as research objects. The data was collected through library research and used qualitative and descriptive method for data analysis. The theory of translation procedure by Newmark (1988) and Gui Lohmann and tourism terms by Lohman & Netto (2017) were used to analyze the data. The result of this analysis shows that there are 7 types of tourism terms found, those are hospitality, entertainment, recreation, food and beverages, events, landscape, and authenticity in tourism and 7 procedures of translation found in this analysis namely, transference, naturalization, cultural equivalent, descriptive equivalent, reduction & expansion, shift/transposition, and couplets.

Abstract

Language styles create many impressions in the spoken form and writing. Therefore, language style becomes a form of inner expression that is typical of a speaker of the language. A person usually chooses a word or sentence in such a way as to achieve a specific goal for the listener. This study aimed to discuss the language style and its function that used by Tony Stark in the Avengers: Infinity War movie. The discourse of Tony Stark in Avengers: Infinity War movie were taken as the data for this study. The data has collected by observing and taking note the conversation of Tony Stark and other characters. It was analyzed by the Sociolinguistic theory from Holmes (2004). Based on the data analysis, the result shows that Tony Stark used more standard language to communicate with his Avengers partners. It is because this movie had a genre of action-science fiction which made Tony Stark face more serious and formal situations. There were also found five functions of language styles used by Tony Stark, there are: expressive function, directive function, referential function, phatic function, and poetic function.

Abstract

Lakoff's assertion about women's language was a breakthrough in linguistics. However, many linguists and researchers also criticized and stated different perspectives towards Lakoff's theory. Therefore, this study was conducted in order to know whether Lakoff's theory is still relevant nowadays. This study used the movie “I’ Tonya” as the data source. It was applied with quantitative and qualitative analysis. It is a documentation method supported with a corpus analysis based on the concordance technique using AntConc software. The findings show that nine types of women's linguistics features were used by the female characters in the “I’ Tonya” movie. Meanwhile, one type of women linguistics feature of the precise color term was not found. From 10677 words of corpus data from “I’ Tonya” subtitles script, women used lexical hedges accounting for 64% while men only 36%. It was also found in intensifier where women used accounting for 103 expressions and men only 37 expressions. However, in avoidance of strong swear words, women were using swear words about 71% compared to only 28% used by men.

Abstract

The use of swearing expressions used by men and women indicates a difference. This difference occurs due to the stereotypes between sex and gender. In this study, the differences of language expressions used between men and women are investigated. Language expressions that are self-referenced are swear words as a form of expressing emotions. This study used a transformative mixed method and the data were taken from both main male character and female character of a film entitled "Night School". Based on these data, it is concluded that different conditions and situations affect the different types and motives of the occurrence of swear words as a form of language expression between men and women.

Abstract

This article is entitled “The Analysis of code-switching and code-mixing in a fan-fiction entitled “Crazy Rich Chenle””. This study aims to analyze the types of code-switching, types of code-mixing as well as the reasons of code-switching and code-mixing. The data is taken from the fan-fiction entitled “Crazy Rich Chenle”, written by Hadids and uploaded on the online reading platform known as “wattpad”. The documentation method and note-taking technique being used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. This study uses the theory of Hoffman (1991) about types of code-switching and the theory proposed by Musyken (2000) about types of code-mixing. The result of this study showed that there are three types of code-switching and three types of code-mixing found and used by the characters in the fan-fiction “Crazy Rich Chenle”. The characters in the fan-fiction “Crazy Rich Chenle” mostly used inter-sentential switching and insertion types of code-mixing

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of BTS brand ambassador (bangtan seoyeondan) on purchase intention of Tokopedia consumers in Bandung City. This study aims to find out and analyze the reaction of Tokopedia consumers to BTS as the Tokopedia brand ambassador in Bandung, and the reaction of Tokopedia consumers to the purchase intentiom of Tokopedia consumers in Bandung, and how much their influence as a brand has on BTS . Meet the buying interest of Tokopedia consumers. In Bandung City. The method used in this study is a quantitative method that describes the type of related research. The sampling used in this study is a non-probabilistic type of intentional sampling, with a maximum of 100 respondents. The data analysis techniques used in this study are descriptive analysis and simple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of part of the hypothesis test (ttest), it is found that the brand ambassador variable has a significant negative impact on the purchase intention of Tokopedia consumers in Bandung.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of Agnez Mo as a Brand Ambassador on consumer buying interest at Lazada in the city of Bandung. This study aims to determine and analyze how Lazada consumers respond to the Brand Ambassador in Lazada, how the consumer's buying interest in Lazada, the magnitude of the influence of the Lazada Brand Ambassador on consumer buying interest in Lazada Bandung City. This research uses a quantitative method with a descriptive research type. The sampling technique was carried out using a non-probability sampling method with purposive sampling type, with a total of 100 respondents. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis and simple regression analysis. Based on the results of partial hypothesis testing (t-test) it was found that the Lazada Brand Ambassador variable had a significant negative effect on consumers' buying interest in Lazada Bandung City. This is evidenced by hypothesis testing showing that the Brand Ambassador variable (X) has a value of t-count (-4.167) < t-table (-1.984) and a significance level of 0.000 <0.05. Based on the coefficient of determination, it is found that the influence of the Brand Ambassador variable (X) on Purchase Interest (Y) is 15%. The conclusion of this study, the influence of the Lazada Brand Ambassador is in a bad category and has a significant negative effect on the buying interest of Lazada consumers in Bandung City.

Abstract

This study is entitled "The Connotative Meaning of Expression Found in Adele's Song Lyrics 21 "Japanese Edition" Album". It focuses on describing the types of connotative meaning and connotative expression found in the song lyrics. This study mainly uses the theory proposed by Leech and Cruse. Methods applied in this study were qualitative methods and descriptive analysis. The data here was taken from the internet through the Genius website. The data was collected by downloading the song lyrics and then printing them out. Then, closed reading was implied to identify the expression containing connotation. Furthermore, the data were analyzed based on a semantic theory proposed by Leech (1981) and Cruse (1997). Four songs were analyzed based on the theory proposed by selecting the expression which contains connotative meaning. The result of this study shows that the expression found in Adele's song lyrics contains three types of connotative meaning, such as Positive, Negative, and Neutral. However, the negative connotations are mostly used in the expression. The use of the expression in Adele's song lyrics is to express her feelings towards someone in her past relationship.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the Influence of Entrepreneurship Interest Barriers on Entrepreneurship Interests of Telkom UniversityBusiness AdministrationStudents. The methods used in this research are quantitative with a type of descriptive analysis research. Respondents in this study were 322 Telkom University Business Administration Students with sampling methods namely probability sampling and Proportionate stratified random sampling. The results showed that respondents' responses had an influence of 27.2% between the Financial Barrier variable to the Entrepreneurship Interest variable. There is an influence of 21.5% between the Knowledge Barrier variable to the Entrepreneurship Interest variable. There is an influence of 26% between Risk Avoidance variables to entrepreneurship interest variables. There was an influence of 12% between the Fear of Failure variable on the Entrepreneurship Interest variable, and there was an influence of 9.1% between the Stress Avoidance variable on the Entrepreneurship Interest variable. The results of data processing and analysis showed that the Entrepreneurship Interest Barrier contributed simultaneously to Entrepreneurship Interest by 50.3% while the remaining 49.7% was influenced by other factors outside the Entrepreneurship Interest Barrier variable.
