Abstract

Writing is an activity of the human mind process that will express the contents of his soul to others or to themselves in writing. Writing is a representation of language in contextual media through the use of a set of signs or symbols. The main purpose in writing is communication. Communication in written form is that students must know the rules of language when they write. Writing in English has many rules including grammar, spelling and punctuation. Not getting good grades. Based on researchers' interviews with English teachers at Bangko 1 Bangko, the teacher said writing was one of the basic competencies that must be taught to students of all English language abilities, especially emphasized in writing narrative texts. In the syllabus of English learning in the second semester in eighth grade, it is found that students are able to: express meaning and rhetorical steps in simple short essays using various written languages accurately, and fluently to interact with the environment around retelling and narrative forms. But in reality, the students' writing ability at SMPN 1 Bangko is lacking, it makes it very difficult for students to write in English when the teacher gives an assignment. In other problems, students cannot develop their knowledge when the teacher gives practice and it is difficult to develop their ideas in essay writing. In this study, researchers used experimental research. The research sample consisted of two classes in which the second class A as an experimental class consisted of 80 students from three classes. The selected sample was class VIII A as the experimental class and control class VIII B. Both classes were used to compare the results of writing skills. To take samples from three classes, researchers used pre-tests before conducting the experiment, two of the three classes that had the closest average value were taken, after pre-testing there were two classes that had the closest average, grade VIII A got mean 53.5 and class VIII B got an average of 52.0. The experimental class was taught using the Power of Two Model on Students 'Writing Ability, and the control class without using the Power of Two Model on Students' Writing Ability. The results showed that the average score of the experimental class was higher than the control class, the average score of the experimental class was 60.75 and the average score of the control was 59.33. This means that there is a significant effect on student writing by using the Power of Two Model to teach student writing, hopefully it can overcome the above problems, so that student participation and student writing ability increase

Abstract

Political communication cannot be separated from the use of language that leads to the delivery of messages, appeals, hopes, requests, and desires for influence. The forms of speech that exist in political communication, especially the regional head election banners (Pilkada) have different characteristics from the speech in ordinary communication or other political communication. Therefore, every human being should not only understand what the Election banner has said, but also the context used in the utterance must be understood. This study aims to describe the form of sentences and persuasive techniques used in the 2017 local election banner in Merangin District. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. The data source in this study was the 2017 Local Election banner in Merangin Regency, which amounted to 14 banners. In this study, the data examined were sentences contained in the 2017 local elections banner in Merangin Regency. To collect research data, researchers used documentation techniques, namely the 2017 regional election banners in Merangin District, which were collected in the form of photographs. Based on the process of data collection and data analysis that researchers have done, researchers obtain data that there are 7 types of news sentences, 4 types of exciting sentences, and 3 types of command sentences. Meanwhile, there were 5 banner sentences that used identification techniques, 1 rationalization technique, 1 suggestion technique, and 7 compensation techniques. The use of persuasive techniques or sentence forms on these banners aims to get the attention of the readers and influence the emotions, thoughts, and feelings of the wider community who also read the banners. Based on these findings the researcher suggests that political parties are expected to provide banners containing educative and constructive matters

Abstract

The problem in this study is the learning process and the critical thinking skills of students in mathematics learning in Class IV SD Negeri 176/II Renah Sungai Ipuh is still low, this is evidenced by the results of preliminary observations made by researchers from 33 students only 9.09% those who score in criteria are quite critical. The reason is that the teacher only uses a conventional approach in the classroom, which causes the learning process and students' critical thinking skills to be low. The purpose of this study was to describe the application of an open ended approach to the learning process of students and students' critical thinking abilities. The method used in this study is classroom action research (CAR). This study consisted of 2 cycles, each cycle carried out through 4 stages, namely planning, action, observation and reflection and consisted of 2 meetings. The results of the study can be explained as follows: (1) the application of the open ended approach in the learning process is seen from the obervation sheet that the first cycle is only from the aspect of the teacher 66,25% and the aspect of the students 64,7% while in the second cycle there is an increase from the teacher aspect 83,75% and the aspect of the students 85,97% who have achieved an indicator of success. (2) the application of the open ended approach in learning in the first cycle is still not maximal. This can be seen from the results of the tests in the first cycle, only 27,27% of the students who received the criteria were quite critical and 72,72% of the students had not yet achieved the indicators of success. students' critical thinking skills improve very well in cycle II. From 9.09% (initial observation), it becomes 27,27% (cycle I) and 57,57% (cycle II).

Abstract

Student learning outcomes look low. This is one factor that can show that students' mastery of mathematical concepts is still weak. This problem is estimated because learning is still centered on the lecturer, to overcome this problem is by implement learning by applying Giving Question and Getting Answer type active learning. This research aims to determine whether students’ conceptual understanding of learning by applying Giving Question and Getting Answer type active learning is better than understanding students' concepts with conventional learning. This type of research is experimental research with the subject random design. The population in this research were STKIP students. The sampling technique is random, selected sample class. The instrument used in this research is the final test of learning in the form of essays. The data obtained were analyzed using normality test, homogeneity test and t-test. Based on the results of data analysis obtained the average learning outcomes of students who received treatment were 77.14 higher and the percentage of each indicator understanding the concept in the higher class. From the results of the t statistic test, it was obtained tcount = 2.44 and ttable = 1.645, so that tcount > ttable and from MINITAB software obtained p-value = 0.010. It can be seen that p-value is smaller than α = 0.05. It can be concluded that the understanding of the concept of students who use Giving Question and Getting Answer type active learning is better.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the number of students as many as 23 class VII.1 State Junior High School 5 Muara Bungo in English language writing descriptive text, the number of students who have not met the KKM as many as 19 people (83%). This is still below the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) set by schools 69.The research used the Classroom Action Research approach which was carried out in class VII.1 of SMP Negeri 5 Muara Bungo in the Academic Year of 2017/2018 with 23 students and assisted by research partners. PTK includes two cycles, namely Cycle I and Cycle II. One of the performance indicators used as a reference in determining the success of each CAR is a Minimum completeness criteria (KKM) determined with a value of 69. A learning process is successful if the minimum number of students who meet the minimum KKM is 75% of the total students. Other indicators increase the performance of the learning process with an increasingly mind map model, which is valued by the research partners and students behaving better and better in each cycle. The results of this PTK study show the hypothesis in this CAR, namely: "The use of mind mapping learning models can improve the ability of students of class VII.1 Middle School 5 Muara Bungo 2017/2018 Academic Year in writing descriptive English text" can be accepted. The number of students who met the KKM pre cycle 17% the remaining 83% did not meet the KKM. In the first cycle to 26% the number of students who met the KKM the remaining 74% did not meet the KKM. In the second cycle 91% of the number of students who met the KKM did not meet the KKM 9%. The number that meets the KKM in the second cycle has reached 75% as the standard of success for each cycle.
