Abstract

Personal hygiene of children is very important to support their health. One of the personal hygiene practices is handwashing with water and soap (HWWS) at five important which preschool and school children have not been able to practice properly. The five important times of HWWS are before eating, after eating, after going to the toilet (to defecate or urinate), after doing activities or touching objects, .transmitted when contaminated hands touch the nose, mouth, or eyes. As a result, the virus will invade the body and have an impact on airway disorders. To overcome this problem, training activities and practices on how to wash hands properly using soap were carried out. By being given knowledge about personal hygiene such as washing hands with soap five times (HWWS-T5), children will be able to wash their hands properly and correctly, which can prevent transmission of the coronavirus and other communicable diseases.

The people of Camplong II village have limited access to obtaining fresh fish products as its location is around 45-50 km from Kupang city which is known for its fresh sea products. Thus, the activities implemented were training on the installation of a square pond, providing 500 fish seeds and fish feed for 2 periods, mentoring and monitoring the maintenance of this pond, and developing human resources. The results obtained: installation of several fish pond with a diameter of 3 meters and a height of 4.0 m, an increase in community knowledge and skills, an early fish harvest stocked from this period which can improve the welfare of the community in Camplong II Village, Kupang Regency. From the results obtained there is potential in the form of land, water sources, and facilities that can be empowered to increase fish water farming production.

Abstract

Eggs are perfect foodstuffs because they contain nutrients such as protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals in sufficient quantities. Under certain conditions, the complete nutritional content in eggs can be a good growth medium for microorganisms. It is important to educate the community about how to differentiate egg quality and how to store eggs properly so that people can choose and get eggs of good quality in the long term. The benefit is that they can be more careful in choosing the eggs to buy, and know-how to store eggs properly so that the egg's shelf life can last longer. This education was carried out online during the Covid-19 pandemic Work From Home (WFH) period using the Zoom meet application. The participants in this counseling consisted of housewives and students.

The limited income for the majority of the community in Penfui Timur has an impact on the lack of average daily protein consumption. The women group of GMIT Ebenhezer-Matani is a group of housewives who plays an important role in improving nutrition to the family welfare. The program was offered as part of increasing family nutrition through protein consumption as well as improvement of family income. Furthermore, participants were trained on bacon and skin cracker processing through washing, scalding, liming, boiling, marinating, cutting, drying and frying. After the demonstration, participants were given materials and tools to start the production. In this phase, participants were also trained to do simple bookkeeping by calculating production costs and profits. Processed bacon and skin crackers produced by the participants met the requirements organoleptically. The bacon has a bright colour with a distinctive smoky aroma, while the skin cracker is brownish yellow, crunchy and savoury even though the size varies. In conclusion, this program has great potential as a business opportunity to improve the family economy as well as family nutrition.

Abstract

Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) or known as elephantiasis is one of the most debilitating neglected tropical diseases. This parasitic disease is a leading cause of permanent disability worldwide and has affected over 120 million people in 83 countries throughout the tropics and sub-tropics areas. In Indonesia, the LF endemic in 28 provinces with the highest prevalent rate comes from the eastern part of Indonesia, especially East Nusa Tenggara that stood at first place in terms of total cases. A total of 23 regencies in East Nusa Tenggara are known as LF endemic areas. Though a prevention program has been implemented, there is still a lack of knowledge and awareness about LF in the community especially the rural community. Moreover, a misconception about the importance of the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) has jeopardized these communities. Poverty and health illiteracy are suspected as the major causes of lack of awareness. The aim of this one health program was to raising community awareness towards LF through school-based health education. This paper discusses the community outreach program conducted in SMAN 1 Amanuban Tengah. Serial presentations about the disease, the social stigma, its prevention, control, and medication programs had been applied in this program. Raising awareness about the disease, the importance of its prevention, control, and medication programs, and breaking the negative assumptions about the disease were several prominent results from the program.
