Focus: EDUKASI is a scientific journal dedicated to the study and research of Religion and Religious Education. It is committed to enriching and expanding the body of scientific knowledge relevant for policy-making and the advancement of theoretical and conceptual frameworks. The journal aims to provide valuable literature, data, and information to governmental bodies, education practitioners, and academics to support decision-making and further studies. Scope: EDUKASI is a scientific journal focused on research and development in the field of religious education. The journal accepts articles that make significant contributions to understanding and solving issues in religious education, whether in formal or non-formal institutions. Education on democracy is something new to pesantren. This is because, in the pesantren curriculum, democracy education is not explicitly prescribed. Implicitly, however, pesantren community has played some roles in the democratization process, both within the pesantren and at the national level. Generally speaking, pesantren in NTB have opened the door for the changes in the educational system that take place outside the pesantren, including the discourse on democracy education. The involvement of Tuan Guru in the legislative body has clearly given indication of their roles and contribution in the process of democratization.

This research shows intellectual relationship of four ulama of Kendal, i.e. Ahmad Rifa'i, Muhammad Idris, Muhammad Hadi and Ahmad Abd al-Hamid with ulama of Mecca in the 19th and 20th centuries. They familiarize Islam and gradually reform religious teachings to improve religious character in Kendal. In term of dissemination of ideas Ahmad Rifa'i, Muhammad hadi and Ahmad use the same media: i.e. writings. Meanwhile, Muhammad Idris is well-known as teacher for some prominent ulama and he himself memorizes the Qur'an. The reform focus on the reconstruction of socio-morality and emphasize on obedience to shari'a over tasawwuf.

This article will present a short account of research results on the role of women especially their leadership in pesantren, taking the specific case, in the woman pesantren of Al-Badi'iyyah under the leadership of Nyai Hj. Nafisah Sahal Mahfudh. The results indicate that there is a dynamic role of Nyai Hj. Nafisah in the pesantren, be it as a woman entity, her role in the family, her figure as a woman in the community and her role as the founder and manager of the pesantren.

This article is aimed at studying the bias of the pesantren orientation, pesantren transformation and its implication on the institutional development of the pesantren. The findings give indication that this educational institution has, slowly but surely, been unable to realize its identity as the agent of social changes. At the same time, young generation who are graduates of both general and Islamic high schools and universities have begun to play a strategic role in the management and leadership of pesantren in particular and ummah in general. Therefore, it is essential for pesantren to understand the basic idea of modernization in education. With this knowledge, pesantren will be able to make some revision toward the ideal form of pesantren in the future.

Ngruki pesantren is one which was founded on the basis of Salafi, i.e. the religious view which strives to purl Islamic teachings originated from Al Qur'an and As-Sunnah based on Salafi tradition and culture. The main theme of Ngruki pesantren is the purification of Islamic teachings as ad-Dien wa Daulah by upholding Islamic Syari'ah in a complete way. As Salafi group, there are a number of their teachings and doctrines which may look contradictory to the mainstream in the community. Salafi teachings and doctrines are being internalized more through hidden curriculum: taklim, tausiah, and the cultural environment of the pesantren. Due to the external factors, their socio-religious behaviors often emerge to the surface, and this is considered by certain people as the form of "Salafi radicalism."

The interest in the role of family in social life in this modern era is growing stronger. On the one hand, this is the result of the declining degree of cohesiveness and disorientation of the family due to industrialization and individualization. On the other hand, it is the effect of the increasing expectation of society toward family institution as the result of the failure of the institutions outside family circles to implant and defend some values in life. This article is trying to see how a family can play a role in building national character, viewed especially from Islamicperspectives. In a specific way, this article shows how Islamic teachings give guidance concerning matters relating to the functions of the family.

This article is an exploration on socio-economic changes as the result of the advancement in science and technology in the era of globakation and their impact on the reformation of educational system of the pesantren. This article also tries to elicit ideas and concepts for the development of educational models for pesantren in the future as well as concepts and steps for the revitakation of education in pesantren in the era of globalization. The article starts with brief accounts of socio-economic changes, followed by description of the problems faced by pesantren in education, and ends with bringing up ideas and thoughts relating to the changes in the educational system of the pesantren.

Theologically speaking, women are the `khalifah' on earth, having equal positions, rights and responsibilities to men, both in the field of `ibadah' and social life. Women as housewives (mothers) in the family have significant role in building and guarding the integrity of thelam* and so do the men. In both the family and social life, men and women's roles are not more dominant than the others; both men and women share equal responsibilities. Furthermore, there is no restriction for women to work as professional workers or leaders as long as they are able to bring about benefits for themselves, the family as well as the society. This article will provide theological arguments on the fact that Islam never puts any restriction on women's activities as long as those activities are carried out in the spirit of Islamic values.
