Abstract

The number of inclusive schools improves significantly in the last 10 years in Indonesia. However, there is a lack of effort to prepare future teachers so they have inadequate knowledge, skills, and experiences to provide education services for diverse students including students with special needs. This research examines the changes of Indonesian preservice teachers’ self-efficacy belief after being enrolled in a collaborative course that integrates between special education content and elementary education content. This study employed a mixed method approach for the analysis of questionnaire data from 34 preservice teachers and qualitative data of open-ended questions. The findings revealed that after being enrolled in a collaborative course, preservice teachers’ self-efficacy changed significantly (t34 = -2.16; p .05), especially in efficacy for instructional strategies (t34 = -2.73; p .05). The qualitative data also supported this finding based on three cases of preservice teachers who have different genders, previous experiences, and attitudes toward students with learning problems. Several recommendations for future collaborative courses and a new direction for the teacher preparation programs are discussed.

Abstract

Climate change and global warming are the primary issues often debated when environmental issues are discussed nowadays. Among the efforts made to raise awareness concerning mitigation and adaptation to climate change is climate literacy acquired from the educational medium. Therefore, this article seeks to identify the level of awareness on climate literacy among preservice teachers in Malaysia. This study involved 500 final-year students from nine faculties at Sultan Idris Education University using the stratified sampling method. A questionnaire instrument was used to get feedback, containing four study variables, namely the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and practices of climate change mitigation and adaptation. The findings showed that the knowledge of and attitudes towards climate change mitigation and adaptation variables were at high levels, while the skills and practices of climate change mitigation and adaptation variables were at moderate levels. Thus, this indicates that students’ knowledge of and attitudes towards climate change mitigation and adaptation were good and satisfactory, but not the skills and practices of climate change mitigation and adaptation, which were still moderate and could be improved over time. The findings and issues that have been studied can be used as a reference and guide for universities, educators and ministries in improving students’ climate literacy, aiming for a more sustainable life.

Abstract

Indonesian university graduates skills in creating job opportunities or entering the workforce are still low. It can be seen from the facts that the undergraduate unemployment rate is still higher than the national unemployment rate. Although entrepreneurship education has been considered as one solution to this problem, the best entrepreneurship education model has not been agreed among researchers. This study examines the application of Business Model Canvas (BMC) on enhancing student achievement and student entrepreneurial intentions and the interaction of entrepreneurial learning achievement levels and the application of BMC on entrepreneurial intentions. The method used in this research is quasi-experiment by assigning two classes of entrepreneurship courses at the Faculty of Economics, Medan State University, one class as an experimental class (BMC) and the other class as the control class. Hypothesis testing was conducted with t-test and ANOVA. The findings showed that the average entrepreneurial learning achievement of the BMC class was 12.52% higher than that of the control class. Entrepreneurial intentions of the BMC class was only 6.15% higher than that of the control class. BMC is proven to be positive and significantly improves learning achievement. The level of learning achievement is proven to be positive and it significantly increases entrepreneurial intentions. However, BMC learning has not been proven to increase entrepreneurial intentions. The results of this study are useful for entrepreneurial instructors to design learning that can increase entrepreneurial intentions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a questionnaire to measure satisfaction levels of Sichuan Province high-level athletes with their management systems using field investigation and mathematical statistics. Through the process of sorting and analyzing existing literature and in combination with the results of expert interviews, an ‘initial questionnaire’ consisting of 58 items and 6 dimensions was formed. As first steps, content validity and face validity of the questionnaire were tested. Then, SPSS 24 and Smart PLS 3 were used to carry out exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) respectively. After the unqualified items were deleted, a formal questionnaire comprising 49 items and 6 dimensions was ultimately formed. Reliability and validity tests demonstrated that the questionnaire had good internal consistency reliability and structural validity. By analyzing the structural model, it is found that the model has good prediction accuracy and prediction relevance, and the model fit is also good. Therefore, the evaluation model constructed in this study could be used as a tool for surveying satisfaction levels of Sichuan Province high-level athletes with their university management systems.

Abstract

The crawl style is a freestyle which is frequently used in national and international competitions. However, this swimming style requires much attention because of its complexity. On the other hand, it is very beneficial despite the facts that athletes do not like it. The objectives of this research were to examine the significant difference between two teaching methods: the pure and the progressive teaching methods. The sample of this study were 32 male students from a junior high school in Yogyakarta. The sample were divided into two groups with 16 students in the control group and 16 students in the experimental group. The data in this study were collected through a measurement on the students crawl style basic movements and the body fat level. The data were subsequently analyzed with independent sample t-test and correlation by the means of SPSS version 23. The result showed that there was a significant difference of basic movement score between the pure method and progressive method learning with p value of 0.03 0.05. The level of fat was not a constraint on both methods of teaching. High and low fat were positively correlated on both methods with the strength of the correlation was very high. In conclusion progressive method was better method to teach crawl style compared to the pure method of teaching because it gave many benefits for learners compared to the pure method teaching, regardless the level of the body fat.

Abstract

The internalization of character values in the boarding-schools should ideally be designed to answering the challenges of the context of Indonesia as a multicultural country. This study aims to reconstruct the character cultivation through the multicultural boarding school system as an internalization model of marine leadership characters. This study employed a single-holistic case study in a Senior High School of Taruna Nala, East Java, Indonesia, that implemented a boarding school system. The data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentary analysis, and the results was presented interactively. The data sources studied were determined by purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The data validity was tested with four criteria: credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability. This study found that the character of maritime leadership is the reponsive (tanggap), tough (tanggon), and agile (trengginas) as unique-intelligent characters that must be mastered by senior high schools in Indonesia as a maritime country. To make it happens, the internalization of character values can be done through a cultivation model, like in planting, consisting of: (1) determining the goals, (2) the seeds selection, (3) land cultivation, (4) planting the seeds, (5) maintenance, and (6) fertilization. The model is carried out in full through the boarding system education system.
