Abstract

The technical drawing is a means of communicating between the designer and the manufacturers to bring ideas into reality by means of drafting. This study investigated attribution styles as collates of students’ technical drawing task-persistence and academic performance using correlational research design. The population for this study consisted of 864 students of year II and the sample study comprised of 150 (93 males and 57 females) randomly selected from six technical colleges in Edo State, Nigeria. Three instruments, the Academic Performance Attribution Style Questionnaire (APASQ), Technical Drawing Task-persistent Rating Scale (TDTPRS); and Technical Drawing Performance Test (TDPT) were developed and used for data collection. Cronbach Alpha reliability method was used to determine the reliability of the instruments and the results were obtained: SAASQ = .87; TDTPRS=.79; AND TDAT=.85. The findings of the study revealed that the technical drawing task-persistence of students was positively correlated by functional attribution style; and was negatively correlated by dysfunctional attribution style; functional attribution style positively correlated academic performance of students. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that technical drawing teachers should model and teach the students the right attribution style that will enhance their learning of technical drawing.

Abstract

Education will be more meaningful if it is in accordance with children's talents and development. If talents can be recognized from an early age, it will be easier for children to reach the gates of success. This study aims to discuss educational dance programs that facilitate the identification of early childhood dance talents. This study used a qualitative method with data collection through observation, interviews, video documents, and reflection journals. The study was conducted on fifteen students aged 5-6 years in a kindergarten in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. Findings of the study show that educational dance activity programs can make it easier for teachers and parents to identify early childhood dance talents. The audio-visual activities in the process of exploring dance movements make it easier for teachers and parents to identify early childhood dance talents compared to other movement stimuli. New approach to identify children's dance talents that can be used as a guide by teachers and parents in identifying and developing children's dance talents from an early age.

Abstract

Even though economics learning in Senior High Schools has been able to increase students’ economic knowledge, their economic behavior is still far from being appropriate, whereas their concern for others, the environment, and even for themselves is lacking. The aims of this study were to apply caring economics learning (CEL) at senior high schools in Indonesia and to observe the internalization of caring economics attitude among the students through action research. It contained instructional package consisting of lesson plans, student worksheets, instructional materials, instructional media, and learning assessment in the form of situational judgment tests (SJTs). The CEL employed case method that was implemented in three learning activities. The data were obtained through observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. The study has revealed that the CEL was assessed by the observers as good and excellent. The success of caring attitude development on the students was reflected in the number of students showing caring attitudes, which increased from the first learning activity (52%) to the last one (95%). Based on the SJT-1, 55.56% of students achieved high scores and 44.44% had moderate scores. Based on the SJT-2, the number of students with high scores increased significantly (77.78%), while the number of students who had moderate scores decreased considerably (22.22%).

Abstract

A mind map and a concept map learning strategy are two learning strategies that are often used to improve students’ learning achievement. This study aimed to describe the differences in learning achievement between students who studied with a mind map learning strategy and those who used the concept map learning strategy, as well as the students’ responses toward the learning strategy applied. This type of study was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The methods used in this study were a test and a questionnaire. Data of students’ learning achievement were analyzed using inferential statistics of covariance analysis, while data of students’ responses were analyzed by descriptive statistics. The results of the study indicated that there were significant differences in the learning achievement between students who used the mind map learning strategy and those who studied with the concept map learning strategy. Those who used the mind map learning strategy had better achievements than those using the concept map learning strategy. In addition, the students’ responses were more positive toward the mind map learning strategy than to the concept map learning strategy.

Abstract

The problem of Indonesian language errors among students is of particular observation. This problem becomes an important concern for students majoring in journalism because one day the graduates will become journalists. A language error filtering application has been developed that can be used quickly and accurately in journalists’ work. This application, which involves statistical analysis, computational language, and artificial intelligence, is named U-Tapis. This study was aimed at finding out the feasibility and effectiveness measures of the U-Tapis model by focusing on the language of students’ journalistic works such as opinions, news items, and news articles. The study involved 30 students majoring in Journalism, a private university in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was found that the students’ error rate decreased after the use of the model. It can be concluded that, in addition to eligibility which reaches 92.31%, the U-Tapis application can help effectively increase students’ proficiency in the use of the Indonesian language.

Abstract

Since emotional intelligence receives much attention in the context of academic success and intellectual humility is frequently studied in the context of career path, research concerning the relationship between emotional intelligence and intellectual humility on academic achievement is a necessity. This study aims to investigate that relationship while contributing to higher education on the insight to an employable graduate. The quantitative approach was implemented as the research framework by applying independent t-test and multiple regression in the first and second phases respectively. We found that the total score of intellectual humility and emotional intelligence for students (male and female) in the first year have a significant effect, while only the total score of intellectual humility among male in the second year has a significant effect on GPA (n = 531). Acknowledging academic achievement is an important variable in student’s academic process and intellectual humility to continuously plan, adapt, adjust, and evaluate their set of competencies, while simultaneously their engagement in a non-academic activity should be fostered. Besides, we suggest a mentor programme on both career and academic dimensions to make them enjoy and comfortable during their educational process. An understanding of IH during the educational process is impossible without serious attention to emotion, including the religious dimension.

Abstract

The unprecedented changes in the education sector due to the recent pandemic demand teachers and students to adapt to new ways of learning via online platforms. A plethora of latest research has investigated various topics such as online learning platforms, online learning materials, and teacher/student perceptions; however, little is known about the link between online learning and achievement. Occupying this lacuna, this study specifically sought to examine the relationship between self-regulated learning (SRL), the digital learning environment, and student’ academic achievement during the pandemic.  The population of this research was 1,800 students (freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior class) enrolled for the Introduction to Management course at a state university in Bandung, Indonesia. Selected using a proportionate random sampling, 317 students participated as the respondents.  The data were collected through questionnaire surveys, while the Structural Equation Model (SEM) was employed to analyze the interrelationship among the construct variables.  The results of this study show that promoting SRL may affect the optimization of the digital learning environment and academic achievements.  Students with better self-regulated learning ability can somehow optimize their digital learning environment and be more progressive in terms of academic achievement.

Abstract

One of the ways to raise an entrepreneurial spirit through learning processes is the use of game simulation. Learning materials delivered using game simulation are expected to improve knowledge, understandings, and insights related to entrepreneurship. This study aimed to examine individual’s understanding of game-based entrepreneurship learning based on the expressions of like and dislike. Data of this study were collected by means of an open-ended questionnaire through a survey conducted for nine years (2011-2019). As many as 441 students participated in the entrepreneurship game called “Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB)” at a university in Indonesia. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively using NVivo 12plus. The results showed that participants liked the game because it could increase their entrepreneurial passions, skills, insights, and mindsets. However, what participants did not like about the game was related to its’ characteristics, the personal issues that it came out with, and the teamwork in the game. This study contributes to the development of a game-based entrepreneurship learning model by identifying participants' interests and discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the game implementation.

Abstract

Emotional dysregulation in early childhood has shown various early symptoms, such as aggressiveness, anxiety, short attention span, etc. This study aims to determine the effects of family cohesion, interpersonal communication, and smartphone addiction variables on children's emotional dysregulation. The respondents of this study were 338 students’ parents from Cirebon City, Indonesia. Data were collected by means of online questionnaires distributed individually to each kindergarten selected using proportionate cluster random sampling. The results of this study show that two variables, namely family cohesion (p = .031) and interpersonal communication (p = .016) have negative direct effects on children's emotional dysregulation. Meanwhile, smartphone addiction (p = .000) directly affects children's emotional dysregulation. From the results, it is assumed that children's emotional dysregulation will decrease when there is a focus on improving the quality of family cohesion and on decreasing the level of smartphone addiction. Besides, the government, schools, and parents should concern about and implement a policy to keep on monitoring children when using smartphones and developing positive and harmonious family cohesion.
