Abstract

This study aims to present a new model of professional training for teachers in educational institutions within the framework of the "Turnkey School" project within the Master of Education degree program at the Humanitarian and Pedagogical Institute of Sevastopol State University (SevSU). This study used a controlled research design method to validate the team concept through a proposed model based on the socio-constructivist and contextual paradigms in education. The model involves training in a master's program as part of team building for a new educational institution in which cohort groups are formed based on the specific needs of assigned schools, which are then evaluated by an independent community of experts, as well as with the writing of a final thesis as a result of cohort team collaboration. This study confirms that the cohort group formed through this model shows a better level of maturity and functioning than randomly assigned teachers. These findings support the effectiveness of a Master of Education degree in improving the training and performance of future teachers. This model emphasizes not only the creation of updated educational products but also the self-implementation of those products, which contributes to the overall improvement of educational institutions.

Abstract

Writing difficulty and constraints have gained much attention nowadays, particularly in the EFL context. However, the writing difficulties of EFL male and female writers perceived in developing an argumentative essay were still under-researched. To fill the void, this concurrent mixed method study aimed to scrutinize the variation and frequency and explore the perceptions of being argumentative writers among 113 EFL university students in Jakarta, Indonesia. Online questionnaires were distributed through a survey and the framework of interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), and the interviews were conducted concurrently. The findings illustrated that EFL male and female writers experienced almost similar major difficulties, including argumentative text genre, language use, difficulty in source/reference, problems in the cognitive process, and other technical difficulties. Further, to be argumentative writers, female writers tend to feel various combinations of feelings and apply more learning strategies. In contrast, male writers express more on the cognitive process of essay completion. However, either male or female writers become more aware of their weaknesses in the English language, such as reading skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a significant influence between the learning model (NHT and STAD) and student interest on learning outcomes. This study uses a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanation. Sequential explanatory is a research where the initial data collection is quantitative, which is then followed by qualitative data. The data collection instrument is in the form of a response questionnaire for the STAD and NHT learning models with 18 statements, student interest questionnaires of 11 statements, and learning outcomes test sheets containing 7 questions. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by descriptive statistics to find the average value and using inferential statistics in the form of multiple regression and ANOVA tests to see quantitative data, while for qualitative data using Miles Huberman, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusions. This study uses 327 students of SMK 1 and SMK 4 in Jambi City by using a total sampling technique, namely the entire population is used as the research sample. Then interviewed 20 students who were willing to conduct interviews. The results of this study indicate that Student responses to the STAD learning model have a good category, which is 60.2% (197 of 327) and student responses to the NHT learning model of teacher pedagogic competence have a low category. good that is equal to 58.7% (192 of 225). Student interest in learning also has a good category of 60.9% (199 out of 327). There is a significant influence between learning models, interests, and student learning outcomes, with the determination coefficient value of (R2) 0.729. This means the contribution of the learning model and student interest in student learning outcomes by 72.9 %, while other variables influence the remaining 27.1 %.

Abstract

Teaching Factory (TEFA) Learning Model is a means of improving students' skills to meet the qualifications required by the workplace. There is a discrepancy between the output performance criteria of vocational school graduates and the job qualifications required in the industry. The industrial world is rapidly advancing in technology and information, while schools are struggling to provide adequate laboratory and practical facilities. This study examined the students’ perspectives on TEFA learning in service production units in vocational schools to prepare them considering graduate work readiness (GWR). The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with the data collection techniques utilizing in-depth interviews and observations. The research participants were students at vocational schools joining the TEFA teaching and learning program. The collected data were then validated using source triangulation. The data analysis followed a qualitative method with an interactive model as realized in several stages: data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusions.  The findings showed that students' perspectives on TEFA learning inform added values in 3 domains: 1) knowledge, 2) skills, and 3) attitudes. Furthermore, TEFA learning provided students with the necessary competencies which align with the performance criteria required by the industry, boosted their self-confidence and learning motivation, and fostered a mental attitude of independence, responsibility, and self-efficacy in meeting industrial needs.

Abstract

Efforts to continuously improve teacher competence need to be supported by the availability of empirical data through various studies. Data on teacher competence in Indonesia have so far been carried out by the government through the National Teacher Competency Test (NTCT) whose instruments were prepared based on indicators of professional teachers who master the competencies of the field of study and pedagogical competencies. The result was that most teachers in Indonesia did not pass the competency test. This article tries to describe user-based teacher competencies in this case, students. How students evaluate their teachers will be able to be a portrait from a different angle with NTCT. Through a questionnaire on student perceptions of teacher performance in online learning, it can provide an overview of the level of user satisfaction with teacher performance. The study involved 569 high school students from public and private schools, as well as urban and rural schools. The questionnaire was conducted through a google form and the results showed that according to student assessments, teachers were relatively ready to manage online learning. Passing the second year of online learning has been well addressed by teachers in improving self-competence. According to students, teachers are capable to use various technology platforms and media in virtual learning.
