Abstract

Saudi Arabia has launched military intervention in Yemen Since March 26, 2015. The military intervention resulted in a high humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has received a lot of criticism from the international community for various violations committed. This research aims to examine the causes of Saudi Arabia’s military intervention in Yemen through the individual level analysis perspective. This research examines idiosyncratic factors in Saudi Arabia's military intervention through the perspective of political psychology, more specifically the theory of narcissism-aggression. This research is an explanatory type and uses a qualitative approach. With this framework and methods, this research aims to analyze personality factors of key individuals in Saudi Arabia's military intervention in Yemen in 2015-2017. The researcher assumed that the key individual was Prince Muhammad bin Salman. The results of this research shows that the personality of Prince Muhammad bin Salman is very influential in Saudi Arabia's military intervention in Yemen. The power of Prince Muhammad bin Salman and the political conditions of Saudi Arabia when military intervention has been launched, enabled Prince Muhammad bin Salman to stop or continue Saudi Arabia's military intervention in Yemen. The narcissistic personality of Prince Muhammad bin Salman kept him from continuing Saudi Arabia’s military intervention in Yemen.

Abstract

This study discusses China's efforts in protecting intellectual property in a case study ofcooperation with the US during the reign of president Xi Jin Ping in 2008 - 2017. Thisstudy uses institutional liberal guidance that draws conclusions and theories from theempirical data collected in the field. The result of this research is that China's efforts inprotecting intellectual property have not been successful. China's joining the WTO andcooperation with the US have not been able to suppress the number of intellectual propertyviolations in China. The domestic legal system remains unclear, government oversight isinsufficient to make this case still continue to occur. China's inconsistent stance on anagreed treaty creates a new problem for the growing US-China relationship between thetwo countries. US lawsuits and allegations sent to the Chinese government for the theft oftechnology transfers prove that there is a desire of both countries to impose each other onbehalf of the national interest.

Abstract

The United States and China are the two largest economic powers in the world today. Therelationship between the two countries always change from time to time in accordance withthe circumstances. Despite the cooperation in various fields, concerns and disputes remaininevitable. One of the disputes between the two countries is the protection of intellectualproperty rights. The dispute is more or less due to differences in the application of intellectualproperty rights protection regimes in each country. The United States had implemented theintellectual property protection regime long ago before China implemented the intellectualproperty protection regime. The United States institution in charge of handling this matter isthe United State Trade Representative (USTR). USTR gave its recommendations through theNotorious Markets List which then often targets the largest e-commerce from China, Taobaowhich is a subsidiary of the Alibaba Group. This study then aims to analyze the reasons behindthe response given by the Chinese government to the USTR's Notorious Markets List, especiallyin 2016-2018. These factors will be analyzed using the concept of national interest. Thisresearch argues that the response given by the Chinese government to USTR's 2016 NotoriousMarkets List is not only about the intellectual property agenda but there is an economic interestbehind it.

Abstract

Qatar is a country with a massive influx of immigration. Compared to other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, Qatar has the highest ratio of immigrant in their country. Generally, immigrants migrate to Qatar to become a migrant labor. Although Qatar has received massive public scrutiny because of being the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar continues to generate a consistent and increasing influx of migrant. This raises a question of what actually causes the incessant and massive demand of Qatar towards migrant labors. The purpose of this study is to understand the cause of the increasing number of migrant labors that migrate to Qatar despite of Qatar’s reputation in the international stage. This study uses one of the theory of international migration, which is the dual-labor market theory. This perspective focuses the analysis on Qatar as a model of industrial country in a modern society, indicated by its unavoidable need for migrant workers. This study concludes that the demand of Qatar’s labor market plays the most significant role in the continuity of migrant labor influx to Qatar.
