Abstract

The number of followers of the account can be recovered, even it can be hundreds or thousands, the account can also be used as a model to become popular. The term for those who earn money from social networks, especially YouTube, is called as YouTuber. It becomes something interesting to study when some YouTubers uploaded their activities, one of them was the video when they went on tours or travel trips to guide the foreign tourists using English during the tours they uploaded. How the structure of the conversation they used was one of the interesting things to study. This is descriptive qualitative research which aims to describe conversational structure of tour guide in YouTube channel. The data were collected through listening, transcription, and note-taking techniques. The collected data then were analyzed using the chosen theory. The results showed that conversational structures used by tour guides in their YouTube channel include six elements which refer to opening, turn-taking, topic shift, overlapping, adjacency pair, and closing. Besides that, there are four expressions such as greeting, asking for information, giving information, and confirming. Expression of greeting consists of formal greeting. Asking for information about condition, readiness, and opinion. Giving information regarding the desire to go somewhere. Meanwhile, confirming expressions are used to ensure specific information about the guest.

Abstract

This research focuses on the forms of offensive language and the functions in social context found in Bad Boys 2 movie. The writer applied some methods, such as data source, data collection, and data analysis. The data source of this research was Bad Boys 2 movie’s script. The movie is chosen because there are many expressions consisting of offensive language. The library research technique was used in collecting the data by quoting the sentences that support the topic of discussion. In analyzing the data, the writer applied the offensive language theory proposed by Timothy Jay (1992) in his book entitled Cursing in America and the theory of speech function proposed by Janet Holmes (1992) in his book entitled An Introduction to Sociolinguistics as the main theory. The analysis in this paper was also supported by other references which are related to this topic. The result of this research shows that there are only eight forms found in the data source. They are cursing, profanity, taboo, obscenity, vulgarity, slang, epithets, insult and slur.

Abstract

Structure shift is one of the problems in translations. This problem is important to be dealt with because it is the most frequent category occurring at all rank in translation. Besides, in grammar structure shift can occur at all ranks. The discussion about structure shift only covers structure shift in phrase, clause, and sentence level. This research used the translation theory proposed by J.C. Catford (1965). He states that shift is departure from formal correspondence in the process of going form the SL to the TL. He also states that there are two kinds of shift in translating, namely level-shift and category-shift. Category shift means the change of formal structure of the SL, in process of translating into the TL. The data source is taken from four bilingual folklores. Data collecting used observation method and descriptive method was employed in analyzing the data. The findings show that in phrase level structure shift found only in noun and adjective phrase. The shifts in noun phrase are: H PostM PostM into PreM PreM H, H PostM into PreM H, and PreM H PostM Post M, into PreM PreM PreM H. In adjective phrase structure shift is found only one i.e. PreM H into H PostM. The structure shift in clause level is: SC into SVC, SV into SVA, and SV into SVO. In sentence level structure shift occur from simple sentence in SL into simple sentence in TL, simple sentence in SL into complex sentence in TL, complex sentence in SL into simple sentence in TL, and complec sentence in SL into complex sentence in TL.

Abstract

Taboo words are a proscription of behaviour which affects people’s social life. The words and expressions classified as taboo are commonly used to describe sex, our bodies and their functions, and also to insult other people. This article analyzes the kinds and the functions of taboo words found in Crank 2: High Voltage movie. The method used in this research is qualitative research. To analyze the problems of this research, it is applied the theory of taboo words by Jay and the functions of taboo by Wardaugh. From the analysis, it is found seven kinds of taboo word occurred in the movie. They are profanity, obscenity, vulgarity, slang, epithets, insult and slurs, and scatology. Furthermore, the function analysis found in this research includes: to draw attention to oneself, to show contempt, to be provocative, and to mock authority.

Abstract

[Title: Lexicons of Flora in Balinese Metaphors: Ecolinguistic Studies]This research is an ecolinguistic study focused on metaphors that is related to ecological environment that concerns flora. The reseacrch is firstly aimed at finding and analyzing the lexicons of flora found in Balinese metaphors. Secondly, it is aimed at analyzing and describing cognitive metaphorical meaning between the source and target, and thirdly is aimed at analyzing and describing how the metaphors and metaphorical expressions were constructed. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative method. The written data were collected from some sources, like Basita Parihasa (book collection of words, sarcasms, metaphors, and others in Balinese), a short story of Balinese containing metaphorical expressions and a Balinese song lyric. The spoken data were collected from an informan as a native speaker of Balinese language.Based on the analysis results, The metaphorical meanings found in this writing mostly showed the similarity, such as body shape, characteristic, situation, and conditon of a human. In other words, cognitive process occured by conceptualizing bodily experience by similarity of the source and target domain in processing metaphorical expressions. It is also found that the Balinese metaphors were constructed by mapping process through ecolinguistic parameters. The mapping process occured, due to the similarity of character or system between source and target, especially Balinese people and ecological environment (flora which exist in Bali). The metaphors were also constructed by bodily experience of the language users which were recorded in human’s cognitive under the praxis social dimension.

Abstract

This study focuses on the language functions used and the frequency of occurrence of language functions in the teaching of tourism police at Bali Police State School. The language used is classified into several functions. According to Leech (1993), language functions are classified into five functions, namely: informative, expressive, directive, aesthetic, and fatigue functions. Meanwhile, according to Blundell (1978) expressions can be 'greetings', 'introductions', 'ask questions', and so on. However, based on the tour police conversation, the theory must be presented based on the procedures applied during the tourism police conversation, so that it can be applied in practice. This study applied lecture, pair work and conversation methods. As a result teaching, ESP to tourism police candidates needs to be given, considering the tourism police candidates will face directly with foreign tourists in the field. The introduction to ESP is still seldom to be given. Thus, it is considered necessary to be given a more frequent introduction by providing initial training to the tourism police candidates. This is expected to help tourism police candidates who initially only get general English lessons can develop with ESP material specifically for tourism police candidates.

Abstract

The problem faced by members of South Denpasar Police Sector as community service partners is their very limited ability to communicate in English, such as asking questions and giving explanations when providing services to foreigners. This study aims to determine the role of communicative English in improving services for members of South Denpasar Sector Police. The method used in this study is a lecture, pair work, and conversation methods. This study was conducted at South Denpasar Sector Police Office. The office is located in the tourist area of ​​Sanur, so automatically the area of ​​duty includes Sanur area itself, which is one of the main tourist destinations for domestic and foreign tourists. The results of this study indicated that communicative English training can have an impact on vocabulary mastery, communication skills, and grammar mastery by the trainees.

Abstract

New Normal life has again given hope to traders in Pancasari Village, Sukasada, Buleleng, Bali. The wheels of the economy are turning again, of course, by implementing health protocols, traders are allowed to reopen their businesses. This is a new challenge for retail owners; they had to think of various ways to restart a business that had been out of operation for several months. Online business is the latest solution in this era of society 5.0. Products or services advertised (marketed) online, of course, must be attractive so that they can be of interest to buyers. These products can be offered online through social media. This is a new experience for retail owners, especially in the village of Pancasari, Sukasada District, Buleleng which usually offers its merchandise conventionally. This PKM is carried out with the aim of helping independent retail entrepreneurs in Pancasari Village, Sukasada District, Buleleng Regency, who have never been familiar with online marketing. This PKM is carried out by recording partner knowledge, disseminating information to partners, providing training to partners, and monitoring partner business developments. Based on the results of the discussion above, two products, namely coffee drinks and food seasonings, have distinctive features in the choice of words used. In coffee drink products, the verbs chosen are enjoy, taste, and feel. While the selected adjectives are delicious, delicious, distinctive, and perfect. In seasoning/food products, the verbs chosen are try, taste, and taste. While the selected adjectives are delicious, delicious, distinctive, and best.

Abstract

Tourism development has had a tremendous influence on the life of Balinese people. Apart from a large number of tourist destinations opened, human resources also need to be considered in order to provide good service for the tourist who visits Bali. The main thing is how to communicate in English fluently. Mastered English as a second language can not be separated from the theory of language acquisition. Mastered in a second language can be as an acquiring, on the other hand, it can be as learning. The aim of this research is to explain how the local guide in Bongkasa Pertiwi Village mastered English as a second language. The data were collected through interviewing, distributing questionnaires to the local guide or the other tourist actors who lived in that village. A mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) was used for solving the problem. By using the Krashen hypothesis, the results obtained are some informants mastered English as a second language naturally and the other informants mastered English by learning.

Abstract

Pancasari adalah desa di kecamatan Sukasada, Buleleng, Bali, Indonesia. Desa ini terletak 850 meter dari permukaan laut. Desa ini memiliki berbagai objek wisata yang berkembang yaitu diantaranya danau Buyan, danau Beratan, wisata petik strawberry, camping. Tujuan untuk membantu para pelaku wisata di sekitar desa Pancasari, Kecamatan Sukasada Kabupaten Buleleng, yang belum pernah mendapatkan pelatihan bahasa Inggris Tour Guide dan mempromosikan objek wisata di Desa Pancasari secara online ataupu n offline. Metode wawancara mendalam (in depth interview) kepada pihak yang terlibat guna memperoleh data kualitatif. dan lainnya yang sangat menarik untuk dikunjungi. Ketika pemerintah menerapkan New Normal, roda perekonomian kembali berputar, pemandu wisata atau yang lebih dikenal dengan tour guide masih minim dan terbatas. Padahal kualitas SDM dalam hal tour guiding di desa tersebut berpotensi tinggi untuk dapat menjadi SDM yang unggul sehingga dapat mendatangkan income. Salah satu SDM yang berpotensi adalah para siswa SMK Puri Wisata Pancasari. Kehadiran siswa SMK Puri Wisata Pancasari mampu menjadi bantuan bagi para pelaku wisata untuk mempromosikan usaha wisatanya sehingga dapat menarik minat wisatawan kembali berkunjung. Sesuai dengan pemaparan di atas, PKM ini dilakukan dengan Memberikan pelatihan Bahasa Inggris selama kali dalam waktu tiga bulan, yaitu Februari-April. Masing-masing pertemuan berlangsung selama 90 menit. Pelatihan direncanakan sekali dalam seminggu. Kegiatan ini menggu-nakan metode blended learning. Dengan demikian program ini dapat menghasilkan bibit-bibit tour guide yang handal untuk memajukan sektor pariwisata.
