Abstract

University students are required to adjust to a different learning system from schools. The differences would made students experience difficulties, and this situation have been worsen with the COVID-19 pandemic that demanded a shift to full online learning. The purpose of this study was to describe college adjustment among university students, specifically class of 2020 which became the first class to experience full online learning when entering the college. The study used the descriptive quantitative method. A total of 380 Andalas University students in the class of 2020 was recruited through convenience sampling. The research instrument was the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ) developed by Baker & Syrik (1984) modified from Rohmah (2017). The results showed that college adjustment of university students was classified as high (68,42%). It shows that students generally have had effective behaviors in dealing with demands in the academic and social aspects, feel satisfied in college life, and have an attachment to the campus.

Abstract

Popularitas internet telah mengembangkan suatu jenis volunteering baru yaitu online volunteering yang telah menarik antusiasme selama beberapa dekade terakhir. Namun, masih sedikit penelitian yang membahas fenomena ini berdasarkan teori psikologi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki faktor-faktor yang memprediksi partisipasi individu dalam online volunteering dengan menggunakan Extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Selain variabel standar TPB (sikap, norma subjektif, dan persepsi kontrol perilaku), identifikasi nasional, norma moral, dan perilaku masa lalu juga dimasukkan ke dalam model penelitian. Sejumlah 208 partisipan yang pernah terlibat online volunteering atau tertarik dengan aktivitas tersebut direkrut untuk mengisi tujuh alat ukur secara daring. Analisis regresi hierarki menunjukkan bahwa semua variabel, kecuali identifikasi nasional, memprediksi intensi untuk terlibat dalam kegiatan online volunteering secara signifikan sebesar 62,8%. Selain itu, norma subjektif merupakan prediktor yang lebih kuat untuk memprediksi intensi dibandingkan dengan variabel lain. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menunjukkan pentingnya faktor kognitif dan normatif dalam memengaruhi intensi individu untuk berpartisipasi pada online volunteering. Implikasi dan saran untuk penelitian selanjutnya akan didiskusikan.

Abstract

Survivors of Covid-19 can still experience symptoms such as being still infected with a virus known as Long Covid-19. Covid-19 survivors with long Covid-19 experience physical and psychological disorders. Psychological disorders include cognitive disorders, memory loss, anxiety, sleep disorders, quality of life disorders, and work problems. This problem will undoubtedly impact individual productivity, so it is necessary to carry out a "Long Covid-19 Hotline". This activity aims to provide health services to Covid-19 survivors to overcome their Post-Covid conditions. The Psychologist Team of Psychology Study Program and Respiration and Pulmonology Medical Faculty Universitas Andalas conducted this activity by telephone in September and October 2021. Activities were carried out by providing psychological consultation or further recommendations for participants' psychological complaints. The results of the psychological condition of participants using Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) 7 screening tools showed that the highest complaints were anxiety at 46%, insomnia at 24%, difficulty concentrating at 13%, and depression at 9% and stress at 8%. As for the follow-up results after the consultation, 90% of participants' psychological complaints were reduced, 89% of participants had made follow-up recommendations, and 100% of participants felt this activity was beneficial. Based on a survey of Covid-19 survivors, their psychological condition improved after conducting a Long Covid-19 Hotline.

Abstract

Academic resilience becomes an important psychological factor that can help first-year undergraduate students in facing various challenges in the early period of university. Some researchers reported that self-efficacy has a role in the formation of resilience in individuals. The present study attempted to investigate the role of academic self-efficacy in academic resilience among the first-year undergraduate students. A total of 400 students (61.75% female) in Universitas Andalas were recruited as research subjects through the purposive sampling technique. Measures used in the study were the Academic Resilience Scale-30 (ARS-30) adapted from Cassidy (2016) and the Academic Self-efficacy Scale was constructed based on the theory of Bandura (1997). The simple linear regression analysis results showed that academic self-efficacy had a significant and positive effect on academic resilience by about 60.2%. Therefore, the level of academic self-efficacy among first-year undergraduate students had an important role in increasing the level of academic resilience in facing the university life. In addition, the current study also found that students in this research had a moderate level of academic self-efficacy and academic resilience. Abstract

The use of the TikTok is currently dominated by adolescents. Adolescents attempt to look as attractive as possible in TikTok without even considering the negative consequences of their actions. Self-control of adolescents can minimize the negative impacts of using TikTok. Self-control in using TikTok among adolescents can be obtained from guidelines in the form of values, one of which is the value of religion or religiosity. This study aimed to examine the relationship between religiosity and self-control in using TikTok among adolescents. The method used in this study was quantitative with 150 subjects aged 11-17 years who uploaded videos on TikTok. The instruments were the Self-Control in Using TikTok Scale and the Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CRS-15). The Spearman's Rank correlation test results showed that there was a positive relationship between religiosity and self-control in using TikTok for adolescents (r=0.162; p=0.048). The results indicated that higher religiosity is associated with higher self-control in using TikTok among adolescents, and the lower the religiosity, the lower the self-control in the use of TikTok in adolescents. In addition, most adolescents in the study were reported to have a high level of religiosity whereas moderate level of self-control in the use of Tiktok.

Abstract

Vocational High School (SMK) is a work-oriented education where graduates are directed to be ready to work and have competitive and comparative advantages. However, the facts on the ground show that vocational students are not optimal in mastering soft skill competencies, so they are not fully ready to enter the world of work due to the lack of relevance of understanding about soft skills between the industrial world and the world of education needed by the world of work. Based on the urgency of the need for soft skills in the world of work, Kantrowitz developed a soft skill measurement instrument, namely Soft skills Performance Measurement (SSPM) using seven soft skill components, but the team modified it according to the characteristics of vocational students into six components including: (1) interpersonal skills , (2) organizational/leadership skills, (3) performance management skills, (4) cultural/political skills, (5) communication/persuasive skills, and (6) self-management skills. The method of implementing this community service activity follows the approach of Vincent II, J. W by modifying the stages of the activity starting from team formation, formulation of goals, identification of stakeholders, needs analysis, priority determination of problem solutions, preparation, implementation, mentoring, review and evaluation. The results of the activity showed that students had soft skill profiles that were at a fairly good level of achievement. The achievement of students' soft skills is a supporting factor in entering the world of work apart from their hard skills.

Abstract

Working in a group setting is commonly implemented in higher education as part of student-centered learning. However, the social loafing phenomenon has been reported to disrupt the performance of university students in group assignments. The current study aims to examine the influence of achievement goal orientation and cohesivity on social loafing among undergraduate students. A total of 377 undergraduate students (70.8% females) in Indonesia was recruited through cluster random sampling. All respondents answered three questionnaires, namely Social Loafing, Achievement Goal Orientation, and Cohesivity Scales. Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS-PM) was used to analyze the correlations among variables that were built into the research model. The results showed that both achievement goal orientation and cohesivity had a significant negative effect on social loafing. In addition, cohesivity was reported to partially mediate the effect of achievement goal orientation on social loafing. It was also revealed that the research model was a fairly high model fit to explain the relations among variables in the study. These findings suggest that both achievement goal orientation and group cohesivity could reduce social loafing tendency during group tasks among university students.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic lockdown has negatively impacted various aspects of university students’ lives which often leads to higher levels of stress. The current research aims to investigate the role of social support in pandemic-related stress among this population. A total of 121 university students in West Sumatra was recruited through convenience sampling to complete the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and Pandemic-Related Perceived Stress Scale. The results showed that perceived social support had a significant role in reducing pandemic-related stress by 10.8% in which perceived support from friends was a better predictor than other sources of support. In addition, this study reported a significant difference in pandemic-related stress based on the income of parents where students from lower-income families had a higher prevalence of stress. The findings of this study propose that providing social support particularly from peers would hinder the perceived stress level of university students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

K-Pop fandom members participate in various pro-social activities, including donations, campaigns, and volunteering. Any form of pro-social behavior performed by the K-Pop fandom is related to its social identity as part of the fandom. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between K-Pop fan social identity and pro-social behavior. The study involved 145 individuals recruited through purposive sampling with the criteria such as aged 18–40 years and members of at least one K-Pop fandom. The data analysis revealed that social identity had a significant positive correlation with pro-social behavior and the direction of the relationship between the two variables was moderately strong. In other words, higher levels of social identity within the K-Pop fandom were associated with increased engagement in pro-social behaviors. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara identitas sosial penggemar K-Pop dan perilaku prososial. Penelitian ini melibatkan 145 orang yang direkrut menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan kriteria yaitu berusia 18-40 tahun dan merupakan anggota dari setidaknya satu fandomK Pop. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa identitas sebagai memiliki hubungan yang positif dan signifikan dengan perilaku prososial dan hubungan kedua variabel yang relatif kuat. Dengan demikian, tingkat identitas sosial yang lebih tinggi dalam fandom K-Pop berkaitan dengan peningkatan keterlibatan dalam perilaku prososial. Abstract

Persentase pengangguran terdidik di Indonesia meningkat secara signifikan sehingga memunculkan berbagai reaksi emosional. Pengangguran terdidik memerlukan dukungan dan bantuan dari orang-orang di lingkungan sekitarnya. Akan tetapi, belum ada ditemukan penelitian yang mengkaji terkait pengaruh dukungan sosial terhadap psychological well being pada pengangguran terdidik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh dukungan sosial terhadap psychological well-being pada pengangguran terdidik. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain korelasi sebab-akibat. Sejumlah 116 orang direkrut dengan menggunakan teknik accidental sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakanalat ukur Psychological Well-being Scale (PWBS) oleh Atikasari (2019) berdasarkan Ryff (1989) dan Social Provisions Scale oleh Cutrona dan Russell (1987). Hasil analisis regresi menunjukkan bahwa dukungan sosial memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap psychological well-being pada pengangguran terdidik. Hasil juga menunjukkan bahwa dukungan sosial memiliki pengaruh sebesar 51,2% terhadap psychological well-being. Dengan demikian, semakin tinggi dukungan sosial yang diperoleh oleh pengangguran terdidik, maka semakin tinggi pula psychological well-being yang dimilikinya.
