Abstract

This study was aimed to examine the influence of drying temperature on phytochemical compounds and chemical characteristic of matoa (Pometia pinnata) peels. This study used a completely randomized design with the drying temperature treatments which was divided into P0 = freeze drying (control), P1 =50Ë%C, P2 = 60Ë%C, and P3 = 70Ë%C, each treatment was dried for 48 hours. Variables observed were phytochemical compounds, water content, ashes content, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, IC50, malondialdehide/MDA and phenol. This study used analysis of variance followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test when the results showed significance dierence. It was calculated through Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21.0. The results showed that the drying temperature influenced watercontent and IC 50. The phytochemical compounds of matoa peels were observed through qualitative screening included flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. The best results on the drying treatment of matoa peels was P1 (50Ë%C) which presented 9.47±0.14% water content, 3.74±0.07% ashes content, 4.89±0.03% crude protein, 0.46±0.04% crude fat, 34.42±2.16% crude fiber, 30.92±10.25 IC50, 12.85±1.49 mg/g MDA, and 0.85±0.23% phenol.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh cekaman kekeringan dan dosis pemupukan K serta interaksinya terhadap fisiologi dan pertumbuhan jagung manis. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di rumah kaca Jurusan Pertanian Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Riau pada bulan September sampai November 2017. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 2 faktor yaitu cekaman kekeringan dan pemupukan K serta penggunaan 3 ulangan. Faktor pertama terdiri dari 2 taraf, antara lain: A1 = normal dan A2 = cekaman kekeringan dan faktor kedua terdiri dari empat taraf: K1 = 120 kg K2O ha-1, K2 = 150 kg K2O ha-1 dan K3 = 180 kg K2O ha-1. Berdasarkan analisis varians diperoleh hasil yang berbeda nyata, maka dilanjutkan dengan menggunakan uji BNJ pada taraf 5%. Parameter percobaan terdiri dari faktor fisiologis yaitu kadar klorofil umur 30 HST dan 60 HST serta kadar prolin. Faktor pertumbuhan terdiri dari volume akar, berat basah dan berat kering tanaman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa cekaman kekeringan menurunkan parameter fisiologis dan pertumbuhan tanaman kecuali kadar prolin. Pemberian pupuk K meningkatkan kandungan klorofil tanaman umur 30 HST dan volume akar. Interaksi cekaman kekeringan dengan pemberian pupuk K tidak memperbaiki fisiologis dan pertumbuhan tanaman jagung manis.

Abstract

One of the livestock groups engaged in raising male laying hens is the "Nawawi Farm" Farmer Group, which is located in Nogosari Village, Jember Regency. This group is chaired by Mr. Ainul and consists of approximately 100 breeders. Based on discussions with members of the livestock group, breeders have several problems. Farmers experience a lack of standard information on feed nutrient requirements, feed amount and feed conversion. The unknown standard of feed nutrient in male layer hens causes breeders to find it difficult to achieve the target harvest. Therefore, it is necessary to provide counseling on the production standards of male layer hens in the "Nawawi Farm" livestock group. The method of implementing the activity is in the form of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with stages, namely the analysis of community needs, counseling on the production standards of male laying hens, and guiding the maintenance of male laying hens. The output of this dedication is that all breeders of the "Nawawi Farm" livestock group can understand the production standards of male laying hens. Rations with protein, namely 18% crude protein, had no effect on feed consumption, FCR, mortality, production index. Rations with 18% crude protein can replace rations with 21% crude protein for feeding male layer hens. This service activity was welcomed by all breeders from the "Nawawi Farm" livestock group so that the service that has been carried out is well organized. Suggestions from this activity are expected that this service will be held at the next meeting in the form of competency training for making rations with the use of local materials in meeting the nutrient feed standards in raising male layer chickens in the "Nawawi Farm" livestock group of Jember Regency, in order to increase the production standards of male layer chickens so that they get greater profit.

Abstract

Feeding independence is one of the target achievements desired by every farmer. One of them is the Bago Mulyo livestock group. The Bago Mulyo livestock group is a livestock group located in Gumukmas District, Jember Regency. Several problems of the Bago Mulyo Livestock Group which reduce production by 5% because the prices of production facilities (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and feed) are expensive and the distribution is not smooth; the need for food will increase by 5% due to panic buying and food supplies. The distribution of feed was not optimal, making farmers have to find solutions so that feed ingredients are still available. One solution is to utilize existing feed ingredients and maintain their feed quality until they are available throughout the year, namely by silage method. The implementation of the service consists of several activities, the first was coordination with the head of the Bago Mulyo livestock group, purchased silage materials, simulated modified silo tools, implementation of community service, and surveying the results of community service activities. The results of the community service survey which have shown that 100% of farmers who participate in the service activities understand silage technology with the addition of silo modification from previously only 43% who understand silage technology. The conclusion is an increase in understanding of silage technology which is one of the indicators of support for the service team in carrying out service activities for the Bago Mulyo Livestock Group, so that this technology can be applied properly for the sustainability of the cattle business in the Livestock Group.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the phylogenetic relationship of Haematopinus sp. which became parasites in several types of cattle, namely Simmental, Limousin, PO (Peranakan Ongole), and FH (Friesian Holstein) from Jember Regency and Simmental and PO cattle from Karanganyar Regency. The method used was to isolate DNA from 6 samples of Haematopinus sp. and amplified using 18S rRNA universal primers with 18S (5'-TCATTACGAGCTCTGCAAT-3) reverse primers and 18S (5'-TTCAAAGTAAACGTGTCGGC-3) sequential PCR sequencing. Sequencing results were analyzed using MEGA 6 software for phylogenetic tree construction using the Neighbor-Joining and Maximum Parsimony Methods. The results showed that the sample Haematopinus sp. originating from Simmental, Limousin, and PO cattle from Jember, and Simmental and PO from Karanganyar were included in one cluster by Haematopinus quadripertusus. Haematopinus sp. sample from Jember FH cattle had a considerable genetic distance from Haematopinus quadripertusus which was possible because the sequence that could be analyzed was only 236 nt.

Abstract

Nowadays, developing contraception methods were mostly addressed to women. The development of male contraception was still limited. There were condoms, vasectomies, and interrupted intercourse, which used in male contraception. The condom method and interrupted intercourse have a high failure rate and inconvenience in its use. The vasectomy method is invasive and expensive. The development of molecular-based contraceptive methods with minimal impacts on health is expected to be a good breakthrough in the context of population control and improving the quality of health. The study aims to summarize and analyze the early development of contraception until the invention of molecular contraception through immunologic, proteomic, and metabolomics science. This article review was done by studying literature in the PubMed Central (PMC), Springer, and Open Access ScienceDirect databases. The search was performed with the keywords "Contraception", "Molecular Contraception", "Male Contraception", and "Immunocontraception". Journal articles that fit the theme of the review are then reviewed by paraphrasing the core of the research. The conclusion drawn from the review is that male contraception using the molecular method is still being developed at a pre-clinical experimental stage using animal laboratory technique and in vitro technique. The key to the success of this molecular method is that the more specific the molecular target at male fertility levels, the better of contraceptive effect. The molecular- based contraception is expected to be a breakthrough in terms of population control that have more effective, safe, and comfortable, especially for male contraception

Abstract

Dalam profil Dinas kesehatan Kabupaten Jember Tahun 2016 masih ditemukan balita Bawah Garis Merah (BGM) sebanyak 1.825 balita. Kecamatan Arjasa merupakan salah satu Kecamatan di Kabupaten Jember yang memiliki jumlah balita gizi buruk tertinggi sebanyak 87 balita (3,8%).  Peran kader di Posyandu “Manggis 18, 15A, dan 15” belum optimal karena masih memiliki pengetahuan yang kurang terkait stunting dan cara pencegahannya. Kader juga belum berperan aktif dalam pengolahan Pemberian Makanan Tambahan (PMT) balita. Salah satu bahan makanan lokal yang baik untuk PMT adalah daun kelor (Moringa Oleivera). Dengan demikian diperlukan peningkatan pengetahuan kader posyandu dalam pembuatan PMT berbahan dasar kombinasi kelor dan susu sapi sebagai upaya percepatan pencegahan stunting. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan memberikan penyuluhan tentang tata laksana stunting. Kegiatan pelatihan pembuatan PMT berbahan dasar kombinasi kelor dan susu sapi juga dilakukan dengan menghasilkan produk YOKE (Yoghurt Kelor) dengan varian rasa original, pandan dan the hijau. Selain itu juga terdapat produk nugget ayam maronggi. Perlu untuk merancang program lanjutan sebagai tindak lanjut dari kegiatan ini yaitu pelatihan kewirausahaan produk PMT bagi untuk mendukung ekonomi kader Posyandu.

Abstract

Berdasarkan data profil Dinas kesehatan Kota Probolinggo Tahun 2017 masih ditemukan balita mengalami gizi buruk sebanyak 27 balita. Kecamatan Kanigaran merupakan salah satu Kecamatan di Kota Probolinggo yang memiliki jumlah balita gizi buruk tertinggi sebanyak 10 balita (37%). Peran kader di Posyandu “Boegenville” belum optimal karena masih memiliki pengetahuan yang kurang terkait stunting dan cara pencegahannya. Kader juga belum berperan aktif dalam pengolahan Pemberian Makanan Tambahan (PMT) balita. Salah satu bahan makanan lokal yang baik untuk PMT adalah daun kelor (Moringa Oleivera). Dengan demikian diperlukan peningkatan pengetahuan kader posyandu dalam pembuatan PMT berbahan dasar kelor sebagai upaya percepatan pencegahan stunting. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan memberikan materi meliputi pengertian stunting, penyebab balita stunting, cara mencegah stunting dan pengertian PMT. Kegiatan pelatihan pembuatan PMT berbahan dasar kelor juga dilakukan dengan menghasilkan tiga produk antara lain puding oreo coklat kelor, nugget ayam kelor dan cookies emping kelor. Hasil evaluasi dilakukan dengan memberikan pretest dan posttest dengan indicator keberhasilan skor 70. Sebanyak 30% kader memiliki nilai diatas 70 pada pretest dan terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan berdasarkan hasil posttest 100% kader memiliki nilai diatas 70. Perlu untuk merancang program lanjutan sebagai tindak lanjut dari kegiatan ini yaitu pelatihan kewirausahaan produk PMT bagi untuk mendukung ekonomi kader Posyandu.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kafakteristik fisiologis jagung manis pada kondisi kekurangan air dan aplikasi pupuk Kalium. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan RAL 2 faktor dengan tiga kali ulangan. Faktor pertama yaitu kondisi optimum (kontrol) dan kondisi kekurangan air, sedangkan faktor kedua yaitu: 200 kg KCL/ha, 250 kg KCL/ha dan 300 kg KCL/ha. Parameter pengamatan terdiri dari laju fotosintesis, laju transpirasi, daya hantar stomata dan konsentrasi CO2 dalam sel yang dilakukan pada tanaman umur 30 HST dan 60 HST. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi kekurangan air pada jagung manis menurunkan semua parameter fisiologis, aplikasi pupuk Kalium tidak memberikan pengaruh yang nyata pada setiap parameter dan interaksi perlakuan tidak meningkatkan karakter fisiologis tanaman jagung manis

Abstract

This study aimed to determine nutrient consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion, and feed efficiency of Simmental crossbred bulls through different feeding management specifically for levels of time on feed offered. Nine bulls were allocated on three different level treatments and three replicates. They were T0=feeding whole concentrate first in the morning then offering whole chopped forages after 6 hours later; T1=feeding half of the concentrate first then offering half of the chopped forages after 2 hours later in the morning and afternoon; T2=feeding half of the concentrate and chopped forages simultaneously in the morning and afternoon. Bulls were fed twice daily and had free access to drinking water ad libitum. Parameters observed were nutrient consumption, daily gain, feed conversion and efficiency. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and further analysis by DMRT for the significant parameter. The results showed that the treatment of different feeding management presented significantly different (P<0.05) on nutrient consumption; however, it had no effect (P>0.05) on daily gain, feed conversion, and feed efficiency. Feed-offered time differences affected nutrient consumption but did not alter the concentrate and forage ratio consumed or cattle performances.
