Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between body size and bodyweight of the first lactating FH dairy cow. The research method used was linear regression analysis with 17 individuals at 27-29 months. The observed variables were body weight (BW), body length (BL), shoulder height (SH), and chest circumference (CC). The results showed that the correlation value between BW and BL was 0.6791 with the correlation regression equation Y = -724.63+7.68X1. SH and BW have a correlation value of 0.4043. CC with BW has a correlation value of 0.6863 with the regression equation Y = -733.455.90X1. The relationship between BL and SH has a correlation value of 0.2048. BL and CC have a correlation value of 0.4832. The conclusion of this study was that BW has a correlation of 67.91% to BL and 68.63% to CC of first lactating dairy cows, but does not have a correlation to SH. The more the BL and CC of the first lactating dairy cow increased, the more the weight of the dairy cow increased. BL does not have a correlation with SH and CC. SH has a 60.08% correlation with CC.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian isolasi, pemurnian dan sterilisasi oosista Eimeria tenella dengan menggunakan Sodium hypochlorite 13%. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui prosentase dan sensitivitas dari Sodium hypochlorite 13% yang digunakan untuk proses isolasi, pemurnian dan sterilisasi oosista Eimeria tenella.Sebanyak 48 ekor ayam broiler, jenis kelamin tidak diperhatikan dipelihara sejak DOC digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Ayam-ayam tersebut diinfeksi dengan oosista Eimeria tenella yang sudah bersporulasi pada umur 27 hari. Infeksi dilakukan secara oral dengan dosis 50.000 oosista Eimeria tenella untuk satu ekor ayam. Isolasi oosista dari sekum ayam dilakukan pada hari ke-9 setelah infeksi, isolasi oosista diperolah dari pengerokan dinding lumen sekum dan isi sekum yang kemudian disporulasikan. Oosista Eimeria tenella  yang sudah bersporulasi hasil isolasi dimurnikan dan disterilisasi dengan menggunakan Sodium hypochlorite 13% yang ditujukan untuk mendapatkan oosista murni yang telah bebas dari debris.Prosentase keberhasilan oosista Eimeria tenella yang dapat diisolasi kembali setelah pemurnian dan sterilisasi dengan menggunakan Sodium hypochlorite 13% mencapai sensitivitas 78,33%. Disamping itu waktu yang digunakan untuk pemurnian dan sterilisasi oosista Eimeria tenella dengan Sodium hypochlorite 13% lebih cepat dan peralatan yang diperlukan tidak terlalu banyak.

Abstract

Selama ini kelembagaan peternak masih dipandang belum mampu menjadi sarana untuk meningkatkan adopsi teknologi dan sarana dalam bertukar informasi didalam kelompok peternak. Tujuan penelitia ini untuk menganalisis peranan kelembagaan peternak dalam meningkatkan adopsi teknologi. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada kelompok ternak lembahmeru, Kabupaten Jember dengan jumlah sampel seluruh anggota yang berjumlah sebanyak 20 peternak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan analisis korelasi. Peran kelembagaan di kelompok ternak lembah meru terkait penyebaran informasi teknologi, wadah kerjasama, dan pendapatan peternak cukup tinggi. Namun, peran kelembagaan dalam edukasi peternak masih dirasakan belum optimal. Penerapan teknologi di kelompok ternak lembah meru masih sangat rendah. Hal ini kelompok ternak lembah meru sedang pada tahap menilai teknologi.berdasarkan hasil analisis korelasi antara peran kelembagaan dengan tingat adopsi teknologi peternak di kelompok ternak lembah meru tidak memiliki pengaruh, namun hasil analisi menunjukkan nilai yang positif. Diharapkan kepada kelompok ternak lembah meru mampu meningkatkan edukasi kepada anggota kelompok ternak dalam penerapan teknologi.

Abstract

Ectoparasitic infestation is one of the major animal health issues affecting on the livestock industry in many parts of the world. Haematopinus sp. is an ectoparasite that causes pediculosis (ptiriasis) in cattle, investing in large quantities causes itching and weight loss because it causes irritation, discomfort, and several studies explain that Haematopinus sp. can lead to decreased milk production and decreased quality of cow products. The objective of the study was to identify Haematopinus sp. in Limousin cows from Karanganyar and Fries Holland (FH) cows from Boyolali based on their morphology. Haematopinus sp. samples were taken from the tail end area, perineal vulva, ears and around the eyes of cows as much 5 – 10 tails of each 1 cow that was invested. The results of morphological identification were analyzed descriptively. Haematopinus sp. samples in Limousin cows from Karanganyar and Fries Holland (FH) cows from Boyolali was identified as Haematopinus quadripertusus.                                                                                                                                                 Keywords : Ectoparasit, Haematopinus, Louse, Ptiriasis

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian masyarakat ditujukan untuk kelompok ternak Sido Makmur Jember. Berbagai kendala banyak dijumpai dalam peternakan sapi yang masih dikelola secara tradisional, salah satunya adalah permasalahan kesehatan khususnya kejadian helminthiasis atau cacingan. Tentunya hal tersebut akan berdampak pada penurunan produktivitas ternak sapi. Permasalahan helminthiasis tersebut akan semakin diperparah dengan kekurang pemahaman peternak dalam melihat gejala klinis serta program pemberian obat cacing. Hal ini yang mendasari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk menularkan pengetahuan tentang pemahaman helminthiasis dan program pemberian obat cacing di kelompok Sido Makmur. Pelaksanaan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan menyelenggarakan diskusi helminthiasis yang melibatkan anggota kelompok ternak Sido Makmur dan praktek pemberian obat cacing pada ternak sapi. Pemahaman dan penularan pengetahuan tentang helminthiasis mudah diterima dan pelaksanaan praktek pemberian obat cacing pada sapi mampu dilakukan dengan baik oleh anggota kelompok ternak Sido Makmur.

Abstract

Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) known as Gumboro is a high frequently found virus that has an acute trait. It occurs on broiler chickens and easily transmitted among them especially during the maintenance period. The targets of this virus are the cell in the bursa of fabricius and various lymphoid organs. Therefore, the IBD virus infection causes interference to the immune system. Moreover, the observation of clinical symptoms showed that in the Arjasari 2 stall found the changes in clinical symptoms on broiler chickens. It covers weakness and lethargy, decreased appetite, hanging wings, whitish watery diarrhea, and dirty cloaca. Besides, during the maintenance period found a high mortality rate. Based on the results of a necropsy, several organs have changed in broiler chickens aged 17-33 days. Changes in the bursa of fabricius experiencing organ hemorrhage air sacs that become inflamed (airsacculitis), and hemorrhages on the heart, thus space indicating an IBD. Results from the study showed that the field methods for diagnosis with a view of the clinical symptoms, the mortality rate, and a necropsy can be used as a method for the field diagnosis of IBD. Changes in the post mortem organ can be used as reinforcement to the clinical diagnosis of IBD, especially changes or damage to the bursa of fabricius.

Abstract

The sustainability of the livestock business does not only depend on the success of the maintenance system which aims at increasing productivity, but also on the ability to process the resulting livestock waste. Livestock waste is the main source of quality degradation for the environment, this occurs due to the presence of ammonia and methane gas which is formed from the decomposition of organic matter. Ammonia along with other gases can cause acid rain, while methane gas causes a greenhouse effect. This community service partner is a farmer who is part of the "Sido Makmur" beef cattle group in Umbulrejo village, Umbulsari sub-district, Jember district. The purpose of this community service activity is to transfer knowledge and technology regarding livestock waste processing to be used as biogas. The selection of waste treatment topics is based on a situation analysis of the "Sido Makmur" livestock group. The results of the situation analysis show that generally livestock manure is not processed and is left around the stables and there are some group members who have difficulty buying LPG fuel because it is considered quite expensive. The implementation of the service consists of several activitie, the first was outreach activities, demonstrations / practices and assistance of community service activities. The results of the community service survey which have shown that the application of technology in the processing or utilization of livestock manure into a useful material that even has economic value will support the creation of an environmentally friendly livestock system or zerro waste system, besides that it will also improve the welfare of breeders through minimizing the cost of purchasing fuel.

Abstract

The aim of study was investigate gastrointestinal disease on cow fed forage from Progo watershed. Sixty three feses samples were taken from cows on Progo watershed. The method of feses analysis used was sentrifuge and Parfitt Bank. The results showed that 63 samples of cows feces were examined, among 25 were infected by Fasciola sp., 7 Paramphistomum sp., 14 Strongyle, and 9 Coccidiosis. The conclusion was the prevalence of gastrointestinal disease in cows was dominant incidence of Fasciolosis by 40%, Strongyle 22%, 14% Coccidiosis, and Paramphistomum sp.11%.

Abstract

Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD), also called Gumboro, was disease which attacked cells in the bursa of fabricius, causing interference with the chicken's immune system or immunosuppressive. IBD was the one of viral disease that often attacks chickens in the field. The aim of this study was to determine the diagnosis of IBD by through at clinical symptoms and necropsy that can still be relevant on in the field. The diagnosis of IBD correctly, cheaply, easily and quickly in the field is very important to optimize the health care management and evaluation program. The method used was by observing clinical symptoms of broiler chickens in commercial farms suspected of contracting IBD and observing post-death organs (necropsy). The object of necropsy was 5 samples of broiler chickens from the farm. Data was analyzed descriptively. The results of this study was the broiler chickens that infected with IBD could be diagnosed through clinical symptoms and post-death organ changes, so that the diagnosis for IBD cases in the field used the observation of clinical symptoms and necropsy are still relevant.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the phylogenetic relationship of Haematopinus sp. which became parasites in several types of cattle, namely Simmental, Limousin, PO (Peranakan Ongole), and FH (Friesian Holstein) from Jember Regency and Simmental and PO cattle from Karanganyar Regency. The method used was to isolate DNA from 6 samples of Haematopinus sp. and amplified using 18S rRNA universal primers with 18S (5'-TCATTACGAGCTCTGCAAT-3) reverse primers and 18S (5'-TTCAAAGTAAACGTGTCGGC-3) sequential PCR sequencing. Sequencing results were analyzed using MEGA 6 software for phylogenetic tree construction using the Neighbor-Joining and Maximum Parsimony Methods. The results showed that the sample Haematopinus sp. originating from Simmental, Limousin, and PO cattle from Jember, and Simmental and PO from Karanganyar were included in one cluster by Haematopinus quadripertusus. Haematopinus sp. sample from Jember FH cattle had a considerable genetic distance from Haematopinus quadripertusus which was possible because the sequence that could be analyzed was only 236 nt.
