Abstract

AbstractLinguistic adaptation through language contact can create ethnic groups live in harmony. Similarly, the ethnic community in Parigi Moutong District, namely the Kaili ethnic as indigenous ethnic groups, coexists and harmonizes with ethnic immigrants, i.e., Buginese, Balinese, and Javanese ethnicities. This study aims to describe the form/pattern of linguistic adaptation through language contact that occurs in the Balinese, Buginese, Javanese, and Kaili ethnicities by bringing up the issue of interethnic language contact ini creating a harmonious life in Parigi Moutong Regency. The method used is a sociolinguistic approach by formulating a focus on examining the independence of linguistic adaptation through language contact and social adaptation. Data were collected using participatory observation methods, which involved being at the study site and observing the language behavior of the speech community as the object of research, followed by recording examples of language use. The findings show that ethnic groups, both indigenous and ethnic immigrants, such as Buginese, Javanese, and Balinese ethnicities, can adapt to create a harmonious life through language contact.ABSTRAK Adaptasi linguistik melalui kontak bahasa dapat menciptakan kehidupan yang harmoni antaretnik. Demikian halnya komunitas etnik  yang ada di Kabupaten Parigi Moutong yaitu etnik Kaili sebagai etnik pribumi hidup berdampingan dan harmoni dengan etnik pendatang yaitu etnik Bugis, etnik Bali, dan etnik Jawa. Dengan mengangkat kasus kontak bahasa antaretnik dalam menciptakan kehidupan yang harmoni di Kabupaten Parigi Moutong,  penelitian ini bertujuan untuk  mendeskripsikan wujud/ pola adaptasi linguistik melalui kontak bahasa yang terjadi pada etnik Bali, Bugis, Jawa, dan Kaili. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan sosiolinguistik dengan merumuskan  fokus penelaahan  kesepdanan  antara adaptasi linguistik melalui kontak bahasa dengan adaptasi sosial. Pengumpulan menggunakan metode  pengamatan  partisipatif  yaitu berada di lokasi penelitian  dan mengamati  perilaku berbahasa  masyarakat tutur yang dijadikan objek  penelitian, kemudian merekam  contoh  penggunaan bahasa. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa etnik baik etnik pribumi maupun etnik pendatang yaitu etnik Bugis, Jawa, dan Bali dapat beradaptasi melalui kontak bahasa untuk menciptakan kehidupan yang harmoni.

Abstract

The survival of a local language isthe symbol of the viability concept of traditional culture values. The lossor extinction of the local language including Buginese language, means the loss and the extinction of theconcept of traditional culture values because the traditional culture only could be understood better throughthe local language expressed by the society. In the other words, if the local language is extinct, the imageand the identity of the society become unclear. By discussing the case of Buginese language preservation inCentral Sulawesi land, it aims at (1) describing the ways of Buginese language preservation of family domainin Central Sulawesi and (2) analyzing the factors supporting the Buginese language preservation in CentralSulawesi. The method used in this research is sociolinguistic approach by using interview, observation, andrecording techniques. Then, the data will be analyzed based on percentage of the usage patterns of Bugineselanguage in the family domain. The result of the analysis shows that Buginese people in Central Sulawesi landstill maintain their language in the family domain whether it is viewed from the categories of age, gender,education, and occupation. Factors that support the Buginese language preservation in Central Sulawesi areloyality, the awareness of language norms, the language pride, age, and occupation.
