Abstract

This research is motivated by students' low enthusiasm to participate in mathematics. Students are more interested in using technological developments in learning because they look attractive, simple, and practical. This research aims to produce learning media based on Android using a valid and practical Smart Apps Creator. This research type is often known as Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE development model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The participants in this study were XI IPA students at SMAN 1 X Koto in the Tanah Datar region. Validation questionnaires and practicality test questionnaires were the instruments utilized in this investigation. The percentage of the final assessment of the validity of learning media was 92.5%, with a very valid category based on the findings of the validator's assessment, which included media specialists and material experts. The teacher received a total score of 100% in the extremely practical area for the practicality rating. The pupils' ultimate practicality score fell into the very practical group with an 83.24% percentage. With a typical rate of 91.6%, using media is feasible. Based on the study's findings, the Smart Apps Creator-based Android learning resources for class XI IPA SMAN 1 X Koto, Tanah Datar Regency have been deemed legitimate and workable for usage by instructors and students.

Abstract

This research is inspired by the many students who think of mathematics as a difficult subject, one of which is the Pythagorean theorem. This study aimed to determine the validity and practicality of using the Electronic Student Worksheets or E-LKPD with a Liveworksheet on Pythagorean Theorem material. This type of research is research and development using the ADDIE development model. The subjects in this study were material experts, media experts, and class VIII A students of SMP Muhammadiyah Imogori. The findings show that the developed E-LKPD received a "valid" category from material experts with a total of 79.6% aspects, a "very valid" category from media experts with a total of 81% aspects, for the practicality of assessment students obtained 85% for small classes with the category "very practical," and for large classes of 75.7% with the category "practical." According to the findings of this study, the E-LKPD is valid and practical use in learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to raise student achievement and learning motivation by implementing problem-based learning based on the Kahoot game. This research was carried out from February to April 2023. This type of research is classroom action research, which consists of 2 cycles, each with four stages: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. This research was conducted on 12 students of the mathematics study program, even in the semester 2022/2023, who took the Calculus 2 course. Data collection techniques were tests and observations. The results of this research are as follows: 1) There was an increase in learning achievement after implementing the Kahoot game-based problem-based learning model seen from the class average before learning. 57.87 and after cycles I and II, with a class average of 71.5 and 80.25. 2) increase student learning motivation. This is indicated by the results of the learning motivation data before the research, which met the good enough criteria; as many as seven students (58.33%) and five students (41.67%) met the good criteria. After taking action, eight students (66.67%) fell into the good criteria, and four (33.33%) fell into the very good criteria.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of student errors in solving geometry proof based on Newman's Theory. The research method used is a qualitative research method with a phenomenographic approach. This research was conducted to prevent students from repeating mistakes in advanced geometry courses. The types of errors based on Newman's Theory used in this study are: (1) reading errors in the representation of mathematical symbols; (2) comprehension errors of the proof problem; (3) transformation errors of the proof problem; (4) process skills errors of the proof problem; and (5) encoding errors. The subjects of this study were 15 students, and the instruments used were interview guidelines and documentation. The results of this study are reading errors in the representation of mathematical symbols with an average of 15.81%, with error characteristics that students do not write geometry symbols according to the rules. Comprehension errors of the proof problem with an average of 4.78%. Transformation errors of the proof problem with an average of 26.84%. Process skill errors of proof problems with an average of 29.04%. Encoding errors with an average of 23.53%.

Abstract

The literature indicates that students consistently exhibit limited conceptions of infinity in various contexts. Furthermore, it is more resistant in geometric than arithmetic contexts. On the other hand, there is a smaller amount of literature that explores teachers' conceptions and how these conceptions may be similar to those of their students. Therefore, this work presents the results obtained from applying a five-item instrument with secondary and high school mathematics teachers who are in public or private service in the state of Puebla, Mexico. This study had a dual purpose: to show that teachers also possess limited conceptions of infinity, as students do, thereby expanding the existing literature on this topic; and secondly, to emphasize that the results shown here will enable subsequent work to design an intervention for a profound conceptual change regarding infinity among teachers.

Abstract

This development is motivated by the importance of numeracy skills for secondary school students. It is necessary to have learning resources supported by technological developments. However, the facts in the field show that existing learning resources are still conventional and have yet to lead to the achievement of student numeracy. Based on this background, this development aims to develop web-based student worksheets in mathematics learning in secondary schools. This research was conducted at MAN 1 Serang City for grade XI students. The development model used is the ADDIE model: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The instruments used to measure the feasibility of this teaching material are expert validation questionnaires consisting of media experts and material experts, practicality questionnaires, and numeracy tests. Based on the results of processing the expert validation questionnaire, the results obtained are the assessment of media experts in the form of LKPD getting an average percentage score of 85% with very feasible criteria, the assessment of media experts in the form of a web getting an average percentage of 82% with feasible criteria and the assessment of material experts getting an average percentage score of 83% with very feasible criteria. Based on the analysis results, the learner worksheets developed are valid for developing the numeracy of secondary school students.

Abstract

The objective is to provide knowledge for pure mathematics and mathematics education students to understand quantified statements so that they can easily comprehend the meaning of mathematical propositions and facilitate their proof. The method used in this research is a literature review by collecting various sources such as books or scientific writings related to the logic used to understand mathematics, specifically related to quantifiers, both universal and existential quantifiers. When mathematics and mathematics education students understand the quantified statement ∀x[Px], what they do is take any (cannot choose specific) x, and it must be proven that x satisfies property P. Then, to understand the quantified statement ∃x[Px], what is done is to choose (at least one) x, and it must be proven that x satisfies property P. When mathematics and mathematics education students understand the multi-quantifier statement ∀x∃y[P(x,y)], what is done is to take any (cannot choose specific) x, then find (at least one) y (depending on x), and x, y must satisfy property P. Then, to understand the multi-quantifier statement ∃y ∀x[P(x,y)] or ∃y [P(x,y)∀x], what is done is to choose y (independent of x) and it must be proven that y satisfies property P along with all x.

Abstract

Mathematics anxiety can be found at all levels of education, from elementary school to college students. This study aims to conduct a literature review related to mathematics anxiety in mathematics learning. The research method chosen in this study is the Systematic Literature Review. Data collection was carried out by documenting all articles that had similar research in this research report. The articles used in this study were 98 articles published for the period 2014–2022. The research was conducted at all levels of education. Based on the research results, there were 98 relevant articles published in 2014-2022 regarding mathematics anxiety in mathematics learning. It was noted that articles related to mathematical abilities including soft skills and hard skills dominated the number of articles. The collected articles mostly focus on research at the junior high school level, and researchers tend to prefer using quantitative research methods in their research.

Abstract

By evaluating students’ performance in their mathematical communication skills and characterizing those skills in terms of their mathematical resilience, this study seeks to determine the efficacy of probing-prompting learning. A mixed method by using a sequential explanatory research design is employed. The study was conducted in two phases: first, quantitative data was collected and analyzed, then based on the findings of the quantitative data, qualitative data was collected and analyzed. The results of the research show that (1) the probing-prompting model with performance assessment is effective to improve students' mathematical communication skills and mathematical resilience and (2) based on the analysis of mathematical communication skills regarding students' mathematical resilience, it shows that students who have low stage of mathematical resilience are only able to express one indicator of mathematical communication skills, while students who have moderate and high stages of mathematical resilience are able to express five indicators of mathematical communication ability. The conclusion is probing-prompting learning with performance assessment can be used to improve students' mathematical communication skills and based on students’ mathematical resilience, students also have different levels of mathematical communication skills.
