Abstract

This study aims to identify and explore non-English teachers' perspectives on their students' ESP needs. This study is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The participants in this study were 16 public health lecturers at STIKes Surya Global Yogyakarta. A semi-structured questionnaire was distributed to participants to gather information related to their needs. The study analyzes the data from closed questions using simple statistics and from open questions using interpretations. The results showed that the importance of learning English is to support students’ academic fields and their communication skills. Reading is a basic skill that needs to be mastered. The students found it difficult to write English journal abstracts, practice oral communication, read, comprehend, and review academic sources in English. Abstract

This study is set out to investigate the influence of task-based language teaching implementation to teach reading comprehension to EFL students. It involved the first-year students of SMAN 3 Padang as research population. They were consisted of eight classes. Two groups were assigned as experimental and control class. There were 36 students in each class. The groups were taught by using different teaching instruction. Experimental group were taught by using task-based language teaching while control group were taught by using conventional teaching. After several treatments, these groups were given reading comprehension test in order to see their comprehension quality toward reading text. The test was in form of short answer response and consisted of 26 valid and reliable items. As prerequisite analysis, normality and homogeneity testing were conducted in order to analyze the result of the test. Subsequently, independent sample t-test was conducted in order to test the research hypothesis. Based on the result of analysis, it was found that tobtained (3.503) was higher than ttable (1.669). It designates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Otherwise speaking, task-based language teaching gives positive influence toward students’ reading comprehension

Abstract

This research is a Quasi Experiment Design research. This study analyzed using Reading Logs to improve students' reading skills at SMKN Tanjung Pinang. Experimental Research is defined as a research method used to find the effect of Reading Log activity. There are two groups in this research, experimental and control classes. The experimental class acquired treatment for Reading Log activities, while the control class did not get the Reading Log activity treatment. In this study, the researcher used the simulation method in experimental class the, while the control class used the demonstration method. Based on the results of the t-test on students' reading skills, it can be seen from the value of the Independent sample T-Test data analysis where the T-count value is 5,971 with a significance of 0.000. The significance value showed 0.000 <0.005 and Ho is rejected. This is also supported by the mean value of the experimental class is 84.78 which is greater than the control class is about 73.00. Based on the results of the statistical test, it can be concluded that Reading Log activities can improve students' reading skills.

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship amongst study of reading habits, reading attitude, and reading achievement of Wattpad reader at IAIN Palangka Raya. This study used a quantitative method and a multiple linear regression design. This study involves 30 students of third and fifth semesters of English Department at IAIN Palangka Raya. The data are collected using questionnaire and test. The findings revealed that there is a positive relationship between students' reading habits (mean = 89.47) and attitudes (mean = 70,23) toward their reading achievement (mean = 87,33) as wattpad readers in the third and fifth semesters of the English Education Study Program at IAIN Palangka Raya. The effect of Students' Reading Habit (X1) on Students' Reading Achievement (Y) is 40%, while the effect of Students' Reading Attitude (X2) on Students' Reading Achievement (Y) is 42%. The combined effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable is then 82%. It meant that students' reading habits and reading attitudes have a relatively high influence on students' reading achievement. Therefore, reading habit and attitude can predict the successful language learning in reading achievement. Based on the findings, students should read more to improve their reading habits and attitudes. Teachers and lecturers, particularly in reading subjects, must pay closer attention to students' reading habits and attitudes. For future researchers to conduct research with a larger sample size and to focus not only on reading but also on other abilities such as writing, listening, and speaking.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a difference in students' vocabulary mastery when taught using video and picture. The researcher in this study utilized a variety of videos instead of just focusing on one type, which differentiates it from the previous study. The goal of this study is to compare the students’ learning outcomes who were taught using video and using picture. SMP Negeri 14 Banjarbaru is where this study was conducted. In this study, a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design were applied. VIII C was designated as the experimental group, whereas VIII D was designated as the control group. The results of this study revealed that the experimental class's pre-test mean score was 71,1 and their post-test score was 82,6. Meanwhile, the pre-test mean score for students in the control group was 65,1 and the mean post-test score was 65,7. The researcher calculated the data using SPSS 26.0 and discovered that the Mann- Whitney U Test had an Asymptotic.Significance (2-tailed) is 0.04, indicating that it was lesser than 0.05. Therefore, it can be stated that there is a difference between students' vocabulary mastery taught using video and using picture, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. As a result, it is possible to assume that the use of video as a teaching and learning media at SMP Negeri 14 Banjarbaru gave more effect in terms of students' vocabulary mastery than picture. The researcher advises English teachers to utilize videos into their lesson plans and to combine two or three different types of media to make their lessons more engaging and enjoyable for the students. As for future researchers, the researcher suggested conducting research in the same topic using more advanced and modern audio-visual media and visual media.

Abstract

This study aims to see the improving students' reading comprehension through intensive reading for college students. The quantitative method was applied by the writer for this research since the writer required the data to be examined using a statistically oriented method, specifically statistics. The writer then used the quantitative research method to administer the test for this study, and the data was evaluated by assessing the relationship between variables For experimental research, the writer used the quasi-experiment because quasi suited to look at the effect of an educational intervention, such as a school improvement program, a project to improve a specific element (such as an anti-bullying program), or a professional development programed. intensive reading improves students' reading comprehension. It was demonstrated by the student's grade. The mean post-test pre-test score, in addition to the student's enthusiasm during the observation of the reading process, when intense reading is implied in the class, indicates that intensive reading will assist the teacher in increasing students' reading comprehension
