Abstract

This study aims to examine the difference in Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) increase with students who obtain Autograph assisted discovery leaning, 2.The interaction between learning models and students initial mathematical abilities to students’ mathematical problem solving abilities. This type of research is quasi-experimental. The population in this study were all the students of class IX SMA Alwashliyah 3 Medan totaling 90 students. The sample selection is determined by randomly selecting two classes. Instrument used in data collection consisted of tests of problem solving abilities, students’ initial mathematical abilities and self- efficacy questionnaries. The results of the study indicate there are diffrences in the improvement of problem solving abilities provided by mathematics learning with the RME approach and Autograph Assisted Guided Discovery learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of blended learning strategies on the creativity of the pre-service teachers. By a quantitative approach, the type used in this study is a quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The population in this study were pre-service teachers in semester VII of the Mathematics Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Medan. The instrument has used a test in the form of essay tests of 5 items concerning creativity. The results of the study indicated that there were significant differences in the creativity of pre-services teachers who apply blended learning and direct learning. Thus, it could be concluded that blended learning gave effects of creativity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the students’ mathematical connections in terms of the locus of control. The mathematical connection indicators in this study are writing down the mathematical concepts that underlie the answers, recognize the relationship of various mathematical ideas and mathematical topics that can be related to problems of everyday life, and understand how to solve mathematical ideas that are interrelated and underlie each other to obtain an integrated whole. Data collection methods in this study were questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The subjects of this study were six seventh-grade students at MTs Negeri 7 Jember. The data analyzed by qualitative descriptive analysis. Based on the tests and interviews analysis, we known that students with internal locus of control could write mathematical concepts as a two variable linear equation system (TVLES). Students can connect TVLES material with problems, for example, represented the object in variables x and y. Students can also solved the problems related to TVLES material by using common examples, elimination and substitution methods. While the students’ with external locus of control also can write the mathematical concepts as a TVLES. But the students did not write in detail the relationship between TVLES material and the problem. Students can not solve problems by using TVLES solutions such as elimination and substitution, but students only use estimates in finding solutions.

Abstract

The students’ difficulties on understanding the material and the lack of the enthusiasm in learning mathematics, especially in angle measurement material were be the basic reasons for this research. In addition, conventional learning methods that characterized by lectures were still often used by teachers in learning. Therefore, the learning not being more active, effective, and enjoyable. The development of educational learning media like analog clock board was one of the solutions to improve students’ understanding. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of analog clock board as learning media to solve mathematics learning problems. The development model used was a 4D development research model. The results of media validation stated that analog clock board was feasible to be used in mathematics learning for angle measurement material. In addition, the results of the questionnaire shown that 90% of teachers and 100% of students stated the media was "very interested". The experiment results showed that analog clock board was more effective to improve students' understanding on angle measurement.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop learning tools based for Algebra on Problem Based Learning (PBL) to support the mathematics communication ability of Junior High School students. Learning tools developed in this development research is students’ worksheets. The research method used is 4D model, which consists of 4 stages, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. The results of worksheets’ validation by experts were 4,05 for the layout design and 4,19 for the content (both were categorized as valid). In addition, the students respons that the students’ worksheets were practical (with average of 3,94) and the teacher responses that these were very practical (with average of 4,23). Thus, based on the expert validation as well as the students and teacher of mathematics responses, the learning tools developed have already met the criteria of valid and practical and ready for the field testing to see its effectiveness on students’ mathematics communication ability.

Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this study was to determine the perspective of mathematics education college students or preservice mathematics teachers on the use of educational games in mathematics learning at schools. This research is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The research subjects were 48 college students in mathematics education. Student perspective data were obtained through a questionnaire given, then the data were tabulated and analyzed. The results showed that 93.75% of students agreed with the use of games in learning mathematics. The reasons students agree with the use of games are students become interested in learning, learning becomes fun, students do not get bored, game technology needs to be utilized in learning activities, the topic is easy to understand, students can learn while playing, games can increase learning interest, learning becomes not monotonous, students become enthusiastic about learning, current learning must be more modern, students are not surfeited about learning, games are following the current digital era, can be a media of learning, effective in learning, increase students' creative thinking, reduce the negative effects of handphone, students become challenged, and students are more relaxed to learn. Abstrak. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perspektif mahasiswa pendidikan matematika atau calon guru matematika terhadap penggunaan game edukasi pada pembelajaran matematika di sekolah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian merupakan mahasiswa pendidikan matematika yang berjumlah 48 mahasiswa. Data perspektif mahasiswa diperoleh melalui angket yang diberikan, kemudian data ditabulasi dan dianalisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 93,75% mahasiswa setuju dengan penggunaan game pada pembelajaran matematika. Alasan mahasiswa setuju dengan penggunaan game adalah siswa menjadi tertarik pada pembelajaran, pembelajaran menjadi menyenangkan, siswa tidak bosan belajar, teknologi game perlu dimanfaatkan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran, materi mudah dipahami, siswa dapat belajar sambil bermain, game meningkatkan minat belajar, pembelajaran menjadi tidak monoton, siswa menjadi semangat belajar, pembelajaran sekarang harus lebih modern, siswa tidak jenuh belajar, game sesuai dengan zaman digital sekarang, dapat menjadi media pembelajaran, efektif pada pembelajaran, meningkatkan pemikiran kreatif siswa, mengurangi efek negatif handphone, siswa menjadi tertantang, dan siswa lebih santai belajar.

Abstract

Abstract. Covid-19 pandemic had affected in paradigm changing of learning from face-to-face to online learning. It was not easily adapted by educators or students. This study aims to assessed responses from mathematics pre-service teachers about online lectures during the covid 19 outbreak. The research was a descriptive survey design that was conducted on 75 selected semester II-VI of math students in IAIN Kendari. Responses were obtained by questionnaires and interviews that further were collected, sorted, and categorized base on an online lecture platform. Our finding reveals that WhatsApp becomes the most entry and frequently platform that used in lectures (65.3%), followed by Google Classroom (18.7%), YouTube (2.7%), e-mail (2.7%), Facebook (1.3%), and a combination of several media (9.3%), while Zoom in the least preferred. The obstacles faced by students during online learning were poor internet connection, internet quota requirements, and limited online lecturing equipment. However, the possibility to study anywhere (home, garden, beach, etc.) and flexible learning time is the ease gained by the students in these methods. Meanwhile, in terms of effectiveness, we found some different responses including very effective (1.3%), effective (12%), less effective (78.7%), ineffective (2.7%), and very ineffective (5.3%). Generally, most mathematics students (60%) responded they want to meet face to face, and only 2.7% of them want online learning, and (37.3%) want blended learning. Based on these results, blended learning could be a choice in the lecture by more attractive online media. Abstrak. Pandemi covid-19 berdampak pada perubahan paradigma belajar dari tatap muka menjadi pembelajaran online. Hal ini tidak mudah diadaptasi oleh pendidik maupun peserta didik. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh tanggapan calon guru matematika tentang perkuliahan online di era pandemi covid-19. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survey deskriptif dengan sampel dipilih secara purposive sebanyak 75 mahasiswa tadris matematika IAIN Kendari semester II-VI. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan angket dan wawancara. Analisis data dilakukan dengan cara mengumpulkan, mengurutkan, dan mengkategorisasi. Berdasarkan data tersebut diperoleh bahwa platform online yang sering digunakan dalam perkuliahan diera covid-19 adalah WhatsApp (65,3%), google clasroom (18,7%), YouTube (2,7%), e-mail (2,7%), facebook (1,3%), dan kombinasi beberapa media (9,3%), dengan WhatsApp sebagai media online yang paling disukai dan Zoom yang tidak disukai. Hambatan yang dihadapi mahasiswa selama pembelajaran online yaitu jaringan internet yang terbatas, membutuhkan quota internet yang banyak, dan perangkat perkuliahan online yang minim, sedangkan kemudahan yang diperoleh yaitu dapat belajar dimana saja (rumah, kebun, pantai, dll) serta waktu belajar yang tidak terbatas. Keefektifan perkuliahan online yaitu sangat efektif (1,3%), efektif (12%), kurang efektif (78,7%), tidak efektif (2,7%) dan sangat tidak efektif (5,3%). Secara umum, mahasiswa tadris matematika memberikan tanggapan bahwa ketika pandemi covid-19 berakhir (60%) mahasiswa menginginkan tatap muka, (2,7 %) menginginkan online, dan (37,3%) mengingikan blended learning. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut maka blended learning bisa menjadi alternatif pilihan dalam proses perkuliahan dengan mempergunakan media online yang lebih menarik.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to analyze the types of error and its factors that cause students’ error in solving operation research problems in the program linear topic based on Newman’s Error Analysis (NEA). This research is qualitative research by using a descriptive approach. The subjects in this study are fourth-grade college students in the Mathematics Education Program at State Islamic Institute of Kerinci that chosen by purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by using a test and interview. The data analysis was done descriptively. Based on the research findings, the types of students error in solving operation research problems were reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skill errors, and encoding errors. The factors that cause the students' error were the students can not interpret, understand and understand the meaning of the questions overall; can not determine the formula to solve the problems; can not carry out the algorithm of arithmetic operations. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis kesalahan dan faktor yang menyebabkan kesalahan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan soal riset operasi pada materi program linier berdasarkan Newman’s Error Analysis (NEA). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester IV program studi Tadris Matematika IAIN Kerinci tahun akademik 2018/2019 yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes dan wawancara dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian diketahui bahwa jenis kesalahan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaiakan soal riset operasi materi program linier berdasarkan Newman’s Error Analysis adalah kesalahan dalam membaca soal, kesalahan dalam memahami masalah, kesalahan dalam transformasi, kesalahan dalam keterampilan proses, dan kesalahan dalam penulisan jawaban akhir. Faktor-faktor penyebab kesalahan tersebut meliputi: mahasiswa tidak bisa memaknai, mengerti dan memahami makna keseluruhan dari soal yang berikan; tidak bisa menentukan rumus yang digunakan; dan tidak bisa menajalankan tahapan-tahapan operasi hitung yang digunakan untuk menyelesaikan soal.

Abstract

Abstract. The improvement of mathematical problem-solving ability was the aim of this study through the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education approach compared to conventional learning according to the students' self-efficacy level. This study used a quasi-experimental study with a static group design conducted in eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kerinci and SMP Negeri 5 Kerinci. Data collected through the questionnaire to determine students’ self-efficacy level and the test of students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. The hypothesizes was tested using a t-test. The results showed that students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities who learned using the RME approach were higher than students’ abilities who learned using conventional learning. In addition, the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who have low self-efficacy who learned using the RME approach were higher than those who learned using conventional learning. Abstrak. Peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis menjadi tujuan penelitian ini melalui penerapan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) yang dibandingkan dengan kelas yang menerapkan pembelajaran konvensional menurut tingkat self-efficacy siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain static group design yang dilaksanakan di kelas VIII pada SMP Negeri 1 Kerinci dan SMP Negeri 5 Kerinci. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket untuk menentukan tingkat self-efficacy dan tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis. Hipotesis diuji dengan menggunakan uji t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang belajar menggunakan pendekatan RME lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang belajar menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional, dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang memiliki self-efficacy rendah yang belajar dengan menggunakan pendekatan RME lebih tinggi daripada yang belajar dengan menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to describe the thinking process of students at the extended abstract level. The descriptive method used in this research is a qualitative approach. The instruments in this study included written test sheets and interview guides. Data analysis techniques used data collection, data reduction, display data, and concluding. The research subjects were two students who had reached the Extended abstract level on the SOLO taxonomy. The results of this study show that students at the extended abstract taxonomy level SOLO can understand the use of variables as generalizations of a number. Still, the majority representation component has not reached the representation indicator by making mathematical modeling in the form of an equation so that they cannot make a hypothesis or prediction in solving the problem related to algebra. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir siswa pada level Extended Abstract. Metode deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Instrumen pada penelitian ini meliputi lembar tes tertulis dan pedoman wawancara. Teknik analisis data menggunakan pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Subyek penelitian merupakan siswa yang telah mencapai level extended abstract pada taksonomi SOLO yang diambil secara purposif sebanyak 2 siswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini diketahui bahwa siswa pada level extended abstract taksonomi SOLO dapat memahami penggunaan variabel sebagai generalisasi suatu bilangan akan tetapi pada komponen representasi mayoritas belum mencapai indikator representasi dengan membuat pemodelan matematis berupa suatu persamaan sehingga tidak dapat membuat suatu hipotesa atau prediksi dalam penyelesaian masalah yang berkaitan dengan aljabar.
