Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused restrictions on the mobility of people and goods and reduced people's access and purchasing power to fulfillment of basic needs, including food. This study aims to analyze changes in the consumption of plant foods by women and men in Java related to the Covid-19 pandemic. The research design used is an online cross-sectional survey using google forms through the Kudata and social media. The total number of final subjects was 2040 adults consisting of 1773 women and 267 men. The consumption of plant foods is grouped into staple foods, legumes, vegetables, and fruit. Changes in vegetable food consumption are differences in the amount of each plant food group consumed based on the subject's perception qualitatively (increase, not change, or decrease) during the pandemic compared to before the pandemic. The Mann-Whitney test was applied to analyze changes in plant food consumption. The results showed that there was a significant increase in both women's and men’s (p<0.01) consumption of plant food groups, including staple foods, legumes, vegetables, and fruit. The highest increase in consumption of plant foods for each food group was rice, soybean, spinach, and banana respectively. The lowest increase in consumption of plant foods for each food group was corn, red bean, cucumber, apple, and pear respectively.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality and quantity of food consumption among the 20% lowest income households (quintile 1) living in DKI Jakarta and develop a recommendation model for food composition that can meet nutritional needs at an affordable cost for those households. This study used secondary data from National Socio-economic (Susenas) 2021. The design of this study is a descriptive study. The Susenas of DKI Jakarta involved 5.890 sample households and all of the household samples become the sample of this study. The results showed that the share of household food expenditure decreased along with the increase in income class. The level of energy sufficiency, protein, and the Desirable Dietary Pattern (DDP) score increased along with the increase in income class. Households in quintile 1 were food insecure, had moderate energy deficits, and had less diverse consumption patterns. The food consumption optimization model used linear programming and generated 4 models. Each model could fulfill the energy and protein needs of 90-110% RDA and increase the DDP score 80-97 with costs of Rp10,649-Rp15,756, which was below the actual expenditure. By selecting the right food and using the expenditure allocation maximum equal to quintile 1 household food expenditure, energy, and protein adequacy can still be fulfilled and the DDP score can still be increased.

Abstract

Online lectures have an impact on student food availability because technological sophistication makes it easier for students to access food, but in choosing the type, students become consumers of most food purchasing applications with fast food choices. Online lectures also have an impact on increasing students’ sedentary activities. This can affect the nutritional status of students. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the frequency of online food purchases, consumption of fast food, and a sedentary lifestyle with the nutritional status of the Nutrition Study Program students of the UPNVJ Undergraduate Program. This study uses a cross-sectional design with a student population of 2019, 2020, and 2021 batches taken using a stratified random sampling technique of 149 subjects. Collecting data through filling out online questionnaires. The results showed that the majority of students had normal nutritional status, infrequent online food purchases and infrequent consumption of fast food, and low sedentary activity. Chi-Square statistical test showed the results of online food purchase frequency (p=0.031), fast food consumption frequency (p=0.355), and sedentary activity (p=0.510). It can be concluded that the frequency of online food purchases is related to the nutritional status of students, while the frequency of consumption of fast food and a sedentary lifestyle is not related to nutritional status.

Abstract

The transition from a high school student to a college student is an important period in determining eating behavior choices that contribute to the quality of life. The research objective was to analyze the types of eating behavior and their relation to the nutritional status of students. The research design was a crosssectional study involving 230 subjects. Eating behavior data was obtained based on filling out the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ), weight and height data were obtained by direct measurement. The results showed that the average scores for emotional eating, external eating, and restricted eating were 2.27±0.74;3.30±0.56, and 2.41±0.75. A total of 15.7% of the subjects were overweight and obese and 7,8% subjects were undernourished. External eating behavior (p=0.008, r=-0.175) and restraint eating (p=0.000, r=0.485) were significantly related to BMI. Restrained eating scores were higher in subjects with overweight and obese status, while external eating scores were higher in subjects with normal and less nutritional status. The results of this study can be an input for developing a preventive strategy for nutritional problems in students with an eating behavior approach.
