Abstract

National rice production Enhancement Programme (P2BN) is one of Indonesia government effort to fulfill the need of national rice due to high consumption level of rice ( 102 kg. per capita per year ). On 2008 the program was implemented in a field school for integrated plant management (SLPTT). SLPTT was designed to increase farming productivity and its income usahatani and improve the farmers’ welfare. The study aimed to describe the implementation of integrated plant management technology (PTT Technology) and analyzing its effect to the paddy farming productivity and income of 40 paddy farmers (20 PTT farmers and 20 non-PTT farmers that was purposively choosen) in Sukaratu, Gekbrong, Cianjur. The result showed that the PTT technology implementation level in Sukaratu is still low, more than 50% of the farmers were applied only 4 out of 6 components of basic PTT technology and 2 out of 7 components of PTT technology. However, it was proved that the PTT technology improved the productivity, revenue, and the efficiency of paddy farming. The productivity of a SLPTT paddy farming (6 tonnes/ha) is higher than that of non-SLPTT paddy farming (5.13 tons/ha). The income of SLPTT paddy farming (Rp 9.382.641/ha) is larger than that of non-SLPTT farmer. Base on RC ratio, the SLPTT farmers (R/C 1.87) are more efficient than non-SLPTT farmer (R/C 1.66).

Abstract

Today, Indonesia is still export fresh agriculture product with low selling price and competitive power than processed product with higher selling price.  The condition also observed for sweet potato that exported in the fresh form with low selling price and in turn lowering the competitive power of this product.  Province of West Java is one of sweet potato production center.  In 2009, “Cilembu” sweet potato becomes leading product of this commodity group that mostly produced in Subang Regency.  Market destination of “Cilembu” is not only for  domestic demand but also exported to many destination countries including Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hongkong, and Singapore, but selling in the fresh form.  Due to the large potential, it is important to examine the competitive power of the commodity and effect of government policy on “Cilembu” farming in Subang Regency.  The research study was selected on purposive basis. The data analyzed using Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) and sensitivity analysis. The result indicated that “Cilembu” farming in Sumedang Regency is profitable both financial and economic and has good competitive power (either comparative or competitive advantage).  Government policy on domestic input is not effective yet because producer must pay higher price on the input than it should be.  The policy is effective for tradable input due to subsidy. Output policy has restrictive nature due to export taxes and no subsidy for the commodity. Sensitivity analysis show that increasing of labor wage and changing on exchange rate is not affect competitive and comparative advantage, while decreasing on output will affect on competitive advantage (comparative advantage still exist).

Abstract

Dried chillies arepotential to substitute fresh chillies when the price of fresh chillies significantly increases, and its purchases were expected to determine by the household consumer’s attitude. The aims of this researchare 1) to examine the household attitudes on dried chilies purchasing bythe Theory of Planned Behavior approach, 2) to determine the determinant factors ofdried chilli buying intention, and 3) to estimate the cross-elasticity of dried chili againsts fresh chilli. The results showed that household consumer attitude towards the purchase of dried chillies, in term of subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and purchase intention,  are in medium category. The determinant factors on purchase intention of dried chilies (α = 10 percent) are the subjective norms, attitudes towards the purchase of dried chilies, and household income per month. The dried chilli cross-elasticity valueis very inelastic (0.069). Due to that, the policy implications in encouraging the dried chilli purchasing are the socialization of the dried chilli’s benefits and sustain the avaibility of dried chillies in traditional markets.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to analyses the rice farming income and the rice marketing system in Karawang district. Primary data were collected in this research involved  34 paddy farmers in Karawang and 12 rice traders and secondary data that is relevant to the research were collected.  The analysis of rice farming was conducted for the first growing season of 2011. Most of rice farmers are the selfowner with an area of between 1 to 5 acres. The selling price of unhusked rice crop received by farmers ranged between Rp 2.200,00 to Rp 3.800,00 with an average of Rp 2.720,54. Value of R / C ratio is 1.50 based on total cost. The actors in rice marketing are paddy farmers, local rice mill, sub-district’s and Cipinang’s market wholesaler and retailer.   The biggest margin obtained by the local rice mill.  The biggest farmer’s share found at the market flows from farmer à sub-district wholesaler à Karawang retailer.  The biggest benefit cost ratio of marketing found at market flow from farmers à local rice mill à Cipinang wholesaler à Jabodetabek’s retailer.  The market structure at farmer level is nearly perfect, however at the other level (rice mill, wholesaler and retailer) the market structure is oligopoly and oligopsony.  The selling price of grain has a significant impact on farmers' income, so the role of the Government is expected to overcome this, such as by optimizing the role of the “Lumbung Desa Modern” (LDM), which is the existence still not optimal yet.

Abstract

Bojong Jengkol Village Ciampea Bogor is the production center of male sheep. To overcome thecapital, management, and marketing problem in male sheep fattening, having a partnership with CV. Mitra Tani Farm is one of the solution for the farmer, though not all of the farmers in the village participate in the partnership. This study aims to analyse the implementation of the partnership, to describe the farming performance with descriptive analysis, and to comparethe male sheep fatteningprofitof farmers who have a partnership with Mitra Tani Farm to that ofthose who do not. The results show that the non-partnership farmer obtainesthe highest ratio of profit to cash cost per SDD per period. On the other hand, in all scale, the ratio of profit to total cost per SDD per period is negative, which can be concluded that the fattening business is disadvantaging. However, the ratio of profit to total costof the partnership  farmers better than that of non-partnership farmer since they have the smallest loss.

Abstract

Agriculture sector in developing country, including Indonesia, faces many problems such as scarcity in productive agriculture land and continuous increase of demand for food.  Karehkel Village - West Java plans to develop integrated farming system (IFS) to address this issues.  The farming system at Karehkel Village integrates organic vegetables, livestock, and produces organic fertilizer and manure.   The purpose of this research is to develop quantitative model of IFS at Desa Karehkel and to determine the economic benefit IFS.  Using the Linear Programming model the optimal solution shows that the farm profit of IFS is higher than the Non-IFS.  The maximum profit can be reached by integrating organic vegetables – waste vegetables – livestock – manure – organic fertilizer (Bokashi).  The optimal solution also indicated that the whole organic fertilizer product  should be sold to the market since the cost per unit of organic fertilizer was relatively high.  Imposing  the organic fertilizer as the  input of organic vegetables farming reduced IFS total profit.
