Abstract

Tourism stakeholders must seek out innovative tactics to survive and thrive in the face of adversity. Switching to digital media and developing new digital inventions is thought to be the best option (Heliany, 2019; Irwan & Novianti, 2021). Based on this, we consider it important to see the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Kepulauan Seribu tourism and its relation to digital communication as an effort to minimize the impact of the pandemic which aims to see the optimism of homestay owners. This article provides an overview of the COVID-19 pandemic impact on tourism business owners of homestays in Kepulauan Seribu until 2021Objectives: This article provides an overview of the COVID-19 pandemic impact on tourism business owners of homestays in Kepulauan Seribu until 2021. This study aims to measure the awareness level of health protocols and the decline in income for homestay owners. This study also aims to describe the future recovery opportunities through the readiness of digital communication towards smart-tourism in Kepulauan Seribu and the optimism of homestay owners in developing their homestays in the future.Methodology: This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach. The collection of questionnaire data uses cluster sampling starting on June 23, 2021 until October 7, 2021 with a total of 308 respondents based on collected questionnaires. The study was carried out on 9 islands during the COVID-19 pandemic and under the policy of Restrictions towards Community Activities (abbreviated to PPKM) by Indonesia’s government. The presentation of descriptive data analysis uses SPSS Version 24. To strengthen the analysis, in-depth interviews were carried out with key informants.Finding: The results of data analysis show a 60% decrease in homestay income and the number of tourists during the COVID-19 pandemic. The biggest use of digital marketing is for imaging activity, followed by digital transaction activity, marketing, and receiving criticism and suggestions as only less than 50% of homestay owners have attended training. Although affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, homestay owners are optimistic to continue to develop the capacity of their homestay in the future. Conclusion: The availability of infrastructure to support smart tourism is sufficient. The readiness of human resources in the form of skills in maximizing the use of digital communication for tourism still needs to be supported through continuous digital communication training programs and assistance by tourism-aware groups. Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic; digital communication; Kepulauan Seribu; smart-tourism

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to analyze the role of perceived organizational support and job characteristics in the effect of work-school conflict on employee performance.Methodology: The population of this study is employees who work in several agencies in Jakarta, who are also master’s degree students in private universities which are excellence accredited, located in region of Jakarta, with a total sample of 275 respondents. The data analysis was conducted through Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM).Finding: The results showed that work-school conflict has a negative effect on employee performance. Perceived organizational support has a positive effect on employee performance. This study found that organizational support was not able to weaken the effect of work-school conflict on employee performance in employees who were also students. Job characteristics have a positive effect on employee performance. Conclusion: The condition of a person playing multiple roles can cause stress, busy activities, and disturbances that have an impact on sub-optimal performance. Employees believe that the organization cares for and supports them, which is shown fairly in the decisions taken, the existence of good rewards, good working conditions, and support from superiors that will improve employee performance. Variation in skills, task identity, task autonomy, and feedback can affect employee performance, because the greater the diversity of work activities carried out, the more meaningful a person will feel. If a worker who is also a student is not able to manage the role conflict between work and school, the job characteristics will not be able to reduce the conflict, and it will impact to the decrease of employee performance.

Abstract

It is widely believed that entrepreneurial intention is a central concept within entrepreneurial education. Students who have entrepreneurial intentions tend to be self-employed and were not likely to be job seekers. Therefore, in the domain of entrepreneurial research, entrepreneurial intention is a critical issue in studying entrepreneurship. Objectives: The study examines the multidimensional model of theory of planned behavior and its prediction on entrepreneurial intention among university students. The premise of this theory is that individual attitude and behavior are complex processes in which multiple factors determine effectiveness. This study investigates whether this theory will be best described with a multidimensional construct or a single construct and how the relationship path of each dimension.Methodology: The study used a cross-sectional design. Data was distributed to 583 university students in the vocational program at Brawijaya University Indonesia. Data was analyzed using multi-group structural equation modeling in two steps: measurement model test and structural model test. The measurement model was used to test and validated the instrument at the latent variable level while Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test the model.Finding: The study found entrepreneurial intention was established by a continuum construct: choice intention, commitment to entrepreneurship, and nascent entrepreneurship. Attitude toward entrepreneurship consists of two dimensions, affective and instrumental attitude. Perceived behavioral control comprises of self-efficacy and perceived controllability. Every dimension of entrepreneurial intention has a different relationship with the dimensions of attitude and perceived behavioral control with self-efficacy and affective attitude as the stronger predictor of entrepreneurial intention than instrumental attitude and perceived controllability. The association of choice intention on commitment and the effect of commitment on nascent entrepreneurship is larger among males rather than females. Conclusion: The study answered the necessity to conduct and test an empirical model of the multidimensional construct of planned behavior theory and entrepreneurship intention. By treating the model as multiple models, we proposed a new perspective of the best model that describes entrepreneurial behavior. Using structural equation modeling, this study reveals the different relationship paths of each dimension.
