Abstract

Evaluation of The Heritability Value and Yield Potential of Corn of SMB-5 Lines As Results of Mass Selection of Berte, A Local Variety Native to Bali on Wet Areas The objective of this research was to find out population homogeneities of SMB-5 line as a result of mass selection of Berte and to find out the agronomic character of the SMB-5 line, mainly the yield potential and the heritability value. This experiment was conducted at Tangguntiti village, Selemadeg Timur District, Tabanan regency which is categorized as wet-type area (B climate type) during six months, started from April until September 2007. This experiment was designed as a Randomized Complete Block Design with nine corn genotypes as treatments. Those corn genotypes were Seraya (Sr), Cicih Tombong (Ct), Arjuna (Ar), Ketan (Kn), Pulut Putih (Pp), Populasi Campuran (Cm), Tongtongan (Tt), SMB-5 (Sm) and Ketokong (Kt). Each treatments was replicated three times, therefore, twenty seven experiment plots were used. There was significant different among corn genotypes used in this research for almost quantitative variables observed. However, there was no significant different occurred in some variables i.e. the number of corn cobs per plant, the weight of 1000 seeds with 12% of water content and the weight of 1000 oven-dry weight seeds. The weight of 1000 seeds with 12% of water content per hectare was 63.17 quintal ha-1 for SMB-5 line and 61.99 quintal ha-1 for Populasi campuran, both were not statistically difference. Almost all variables observed showed high value of heritability.

Abstract

The Activity Test of Celery Leaf Extract (Apium graveolens L.) Against Bean Weevil, Callosobruchus cinensis L. (Coleoptera:Bruchidae) The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Pest and Disease Management,Department of Agroecotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University. The purpose of this experiment was to examine the activity of celery leaf extract against bean weevil, Callosobruchus chinensis L. The experiment was Randomized Complete Design, with five treatments of formulation concentration. The activities of celery leaf extract was indicated through i.e. contact poison test, repellent test, and the placement of eggs (oviposition) test. The results showed that the celery leaf extract has activity as a contact poison with concentration 75% formulations caused over 50% death of the total insect. The extract with 100% concentration acted as a repellent and anti oviposition as well.

Abstract

The Influence of The Presence of Weeds on The Population Number of main Pest of Cabbage on The Cabbage Croppings The aim of the research was to find out the development of population number of Plutella xylostella and Crocidolomia pavonana in the precence and the absence of weeds on the cabbage croppings. The results showed that there were 23 species of weeds in association with plant cabbage, which was made up of 7 species of grasses, 3 species of weeds from Cyperaceae family, and 13 species of broadleaved weeds. Main pests of cabbage on cabbage croppings (Plutella xylostella and Crocidolomia pavonana) was found more on cabbage plants in the absence of weeds compared than that of the presence of weeds.

Abstract

Growth, Yield, and Production Analysis of Maize (Zea mays L.) Treated by Organic Fertilizer and Cow Biourine in Dry Land Maize productivity in Bali is still low at around 3.4 ton/ha. Low soil fertility is one of the factors contributable to the low productivity of maize. Soil condition at the research field has low level of fertility with low levels of nitrogen and C-organic. This research aims at finding out the impact of organic fertilizers and cow biourine to the growth and yield of maize in dry land and to analyze it gross margin. Experiment was designed with randomized block design (RBD) with two factors and four replications. The dosage of the first factor namely without organic fertilizer, cow organic fertilizer 15 tonnes/ha and worm casting fertilizer 15 tonnes/ha, whereas dosage of cow biourine namely 0 liter, 1.000 liters, 2.000 liters and 3.000 liters/ha respectively for the second factor. The research results show that there is highly significant interaction (p<0.01) between organic fertilizers and cow biourine to the number of leaves aged at 21, 35, 49 and 63 dap, trunk diameter, dry matter weight/plant, number of cobs/plant, and harvest index, however it shows significant interaction (p<0.05) to leave area index (LAI) at age 35 dap and soil pH at harvest. The combination of worm casting fertilizer of 15 tonnes/ha with cow biourine 2.000 liters/ha resulted in the highest dry weight of seed/ha to 4,09 tonnes/ha, an increase of 69,71% compared to no fertilizer. The relationship between organic fertilizer and cow biourine to the dry matter yield follows a quadratic pattern, hence 15 tonnes/ ha worm casting fertilizer and 2000 liters/ha of cow biourine resulted in optimum yield from this research. Result from the gross margin analysis shows that revenue received at Rp 8.7935 million based on the price of dry shelled corn at Rp 2.150/kg does not cover the high variable cost at Rp 26.664,500.

Abstract

The Effect of Ethyl Methane Sulphonate (EMS) on Growth and Variations of Marigold (Tagetes sp.) The aims of this research are to determine the variation of marigold (Tagetes sp) derived from seed treated with EMS and to recommend the EMS concentrations that are able to induce varietion. Seeds of marigold cv Narai Orange were soaked in water for 6 hours, followed by soaking in EMS at concentration of 0%, 0.3%, 0.6% and 0.9% for 4 hours. This study employed Randomized Complete Blok Design with 10 replicates and each replicate consisted of 10 plants. Six plants were randomly chosen for measurements. The total number of samples observed were 240 plants. Observations were made on the percentage of the growth, plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, diameter and weight of flowers. Data obtained from the observations were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by DMRT (Duncan’s Multiple Range Test) if there is a significant difference between treatments. The EMS treatment reduced all characters observed. The EMS concentration of 0.6% showed plant that had yellow flowers. The 0.9% EMS treatment resulted in one plant with chimera, 6 dwarf plants, 2 plants with thin stems, and 1 short plant with many branches. Untreated plants did not show any variation.

Abstract

Assessment of Micro Nutrient of Soil for Improving Food Production on Paddy Field in The District of Penebel, Tabanan Research of soil micro nutrient was carried out on paddy soil in district Penebel, Tabanan regency, starting July until October 2013, which was conducted by soil survey and laboratory analysis. The experiment consists of several stages such as the formation of the land unit based on the compilation maps of soil type, geology and slope, obtained 11 land units. Each unit taken some samples depending on the area, location and slope, so have got 50 soil samples. Soil samples were taken at a depth of 0-20 cm. Further, the content of micro nutrients Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn analyzed with EDTA extraction at Soil laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University. In addition it also analyzed of the soil macro nutrients content: total-N, available- P, available-K, C- organic matter, soil pH and salinity. Soil analysis showed that the micro nutrient content of Fe ranged from 59.672 to 66.382 ppm (classified as moderate), Mn ranged from 11.960 to 33.786 ppm (relatively low), Cu ranged from 5.426 to 23.204 ppm (very low to low), and Zn ranged from 1.818 to 9.058 ppm (very low to moderate). The paddy soil in the district Penebel, containing moderate of micronutrients Fe content and Mn contain relatively low; Cu content are very low to low; and Zn content are mostly very low to low. While the content of macro nutrient elements such as N and P are low to moderate, but the content of K is very high. C-organic content classified as moderate to high, and soil acidity is slightly acid soil. The limiting factors of rice production were Zn, Cu and Mn. Fertilization of micro nutrients needs to increase rice production in the district Penebel. To obtain suitable micro-nutrient fertilizer dosage to increase rice yield in district Penebel, it is needs to be done research of micro nutrients testing especially Zn, Cu, and Mn.

Abstract

The Growth Response of Orchid Plantlets of Dendrobium sp. by Aplicación of Bean Sprouts Extract and Coconut Water in Organic Medium The aim of this researh is to obtain the effect of coconut water and bean sprouts extract and the best combination added to organic medium on growth of orchid planlets in vitro. The experiment was conducted at Tissue Culture Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty, Udayana University, Pegok Denpasar from Mei until Oktober 2012. The research design was Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with ten treatments and six replications. The results of this ezperiment showed that addition of coconut water at concentration of 150 ml/l and bean sprouts extract of 50 ml/l resulted in the best growth of orchid planlet which includes the height of plantlets (4,10 cm), the number of leaf (3,33 leaves), length of root (1,07 cm). The total fresh weight of plantlet was 0,20 g and total oven dry-weight of plantlet was 0,021 g.

Abstract

Productivity of Pepper Seeds Which are Treated Dry Heat Treatment and Storage Pepper plants (Capsicum frutescens L.) is one type of horticultural crops which is very high usage levels therefor, it is necessary to increase productivity dramatically. One effort to fulfil the need is preparing healthy seed with long shelf life . This study aims to determine the growth and yield of pepper plants whose seed was treated with dry heat treatment and storage. The experiment was conducted in Br . Marga Tengah, Kerta Village, Payangan District, Gianyar Regency, since May to October 2013. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with two factors and four replications. The first factor is treated seeds by dry heat treatment at two levels i.e. given dry heat treatment at 70OC for 72 hours (D1) and without dry heat treatment (D0). The second factor is the storage of seeds with three levels, namely: non-stored seeds (T0), seed stored 2 months (T2) and the seeds stored for 4 months (T4). The results showed that there was no interaction between treatment with dry heat treatment and seed storage treatment of all variables of growth and yield of pepper plants. Dry heat treatment resulted the better growth and yield compared to non dry heat treatment. An increase in the number of fruit harvest as much as 33,43% and increased the weight of the fruit harvest per hectare as much as 33,79% on dry heat treatment compared with no dry heat treatment. Treatment of seed storage until the shelf life of 4 months did not affect the growth and yield of pepper plants.

Abstract

Rice production in Purwakarta district is fairly good because productivity is not low (5.73 t/ha). However, rice cultivation needs improvement so that productivity can be increased. Therefore, BPTP West Java from 2007 to 2012 has conducted several studies of technological innovation in Purwakarta district in an effort to increase rice production. The purpose of this paper is to inform the results of studies that have been conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture in Purwakarta Regency of West Java to support the National Rice Production Enhancement Program (P2BN). Based on the results of the assessment of a range of new varieties (VUB), it was found that Mekongga, Ciherang, Inpari 2 varieties were good and were selected by the farmers in the district of Wanayasa and Pondok Salam. Morevore to support IP-400 rice, no-tillage system (TOT) can shorten the time of land preparation using locally probiotic microbes such as Agri Simba. The dose of Agri Simba used to accelerate the degradation of rice straw was best 10 liters/ha. The application of NPK fertilizer use is more practical than single fertilizer. Morevore the addition of local probiotic (Agri Super) NPK Kujang did not show any interaction effect on rice yield of Inpari 13 variety. The administration of local probiotic Agri Super showed 20% higher yields Agri Simba. The addition of NPK Kujang at 300 kg/ha produced the highest yield at 8.24 tons/ha paddy, and the lowest yield produced by 200 kg/ha NPK approximately at 7.55 tons/ha paddy.

Abstract

The Quality of Compost on Various Combinations of Organic Waste Raw Materials Evaluation of compost stability prior to its use is essential for the recycling of organic waste in agricultural soils. During composting, most of the biodegradable organic compound are broken down and a portion of the remaining organic material is converted into humic-like substances, with production of a chemically stabilized composted material. This experiment aimed to monitor the changes in physicochemical characteristics during composting of three kinds compost heap and to define parameters suitable for evaluating the stability of compost. The experiment were conducted from Mei to October 2011 and consisted of three treatments with six replicates for each treatment. Compost pile temperature,the pH, that reflected the initiation and stabilization of the compost, were measured during the composting process. The carbon organic material content, carbon and nitrogen content, the carbon to nitrogen ratio, organoleptic characteristics, and K2O, P2O5, Mg, Ca content were measured to evaluate the quality of the physicochemical properties of the compost. Compost toxicity level had evaluated using Germination Index. The result showed that the quality of compost from all treatments that were evaluated in this experiment meet the standard quality of SNI 2004.
