Abstract

This study deals with the use of the Memrise application in enrichment students’ English vocabulary. This study is conducted based on a preliminary study which showed that students had difficulty learning English due to their lack of vocabulary. The objective of the study is to find out the significant effect of Memrise application in enriching students’ English vocabulary. The method that is used to conduct the research is quantitative method. The sample of the research is eight grade students at SMP Dharma Pancasila Medan. The instruments to collect the data are pre-test and post-test. The data analysis techniques of this study were (1) normality test (2) homogeneity test (3) hypothesis testing in the form of t-test. Hypothesis testing uses the t-test formula which is preceded by a normality test and a homogeneity test. The results of the t-test shows that there is a significant effect to enrich student English vocabulary at SMP Dharma Pancasila Medan, the value sig (2-tailed) = 0.001 < 0, 05 then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the different types of errors that ninth-grade students at SMPN 1 Kuta Buluh, Tanah Karo committed when writing narrative texts during the academic year 2022–2023. There were 28 students in this study. The author used a qualitative descriptive approach. On Friday, May 19, 2023, an offline investigation was conducted. The researchers looked into the narrative text writing errors made by the students. The categorization of student writing errors was the study's main goal. The Surface Strategy Taxonomy analysis of the results revealed 40 mistakes in the students' narrative text. 11 addition mistakes totaling 27.5% were made, as were 20 omission mistakes totaling 50%, 7 misformation mistakes totaling 17.5%, and 2 misordering mistakes totaling 5%. The most typical mistake is omission (20).

Abstract

This study is to find out audio visual media has a significant effect to the students’ listening comprehension. The research applied quantitative design. The samples were 60 students which divide into two groups, namely experimental group and control group. The instrument of the study was multiple choice tests about conversations and stories. Based on the result of this research, the implementation of audio visual media have effect to students’ listening comprehension at the second year senior high school students score experimental group from 60 in pre-test up to 80 in post-test. The findings should that t-observed 4,05 t-table 1,66 , means that t-observed is higher that t-table. So , Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected audio visual media has significant effect on students’ listening comprehension.

Abstract

The habit of reading will build and improve students' character and literacy. This habit will also help students become adequate readers, achieve a large vocabulary, understand and use complex grammatical constructions, and develop a good writing style. The reading habit of an individual depends on many factors, and one of those factors is gender. This research is aimed to compare the reading habits and translation skills of female and male students in English Literature Department at STBA PIA. The study is conducted at STBA PIA in Medan, North Sumatra. The sample, taken by random sampling, consists of 40 students, 20 female and 20 male students. The research design is a quantitative, analytical, and observational one. There are two instruments applied. A questionnaire is used to measure female and male students’ reading habits. Afterwards, the two groups of students are given a translation test to get data about their ability to translate. The test uses the scale instrument of holistic-based translation quality assessment (TQA). The distribution frequency of the collected data is analyzed using univariate analysis. An independent T-test (two-tail) will be conducted to find out the comparative data on reading habits and translation skills between female and male students.

Abstract

Simple paragraph writing training for tenth grade student Teknik Komputer Jaringan program at SMKSwasta Yapim Biru-Biru was a training that aimed to broaden students’ knowledge in simple paragraph writing in English which could be applied in classroom learning activity at English subject. The subject of the training was 40 tenth grade students of Teknik Komputer dan Jaringna program at SMK Swasta Yapim Biru-Biru. Lecture and discussion was used as the method of training which provided the information of simple paragraph writing that was able to apply in classroom activity, later on, students were able to write full text optimally, and followed by discussion session which aim to provide opportunities to ask question about simple paragraph. The results of this training reflect that there was more information and that students' abilities in writing simple paragraphs have gotten stronger, as seen due to the outcomes of writing simple paragraphs of students who followed the guidelines for writing a paragraph (outline of paragraph).

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan implementasi kurikulum merdeka pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri 27 Medan, mendeskripsikan problematika guru dan peserta didik dalam implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di SMP Negeri 27 Medan, serta mendeskripsikan solusi yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi problematika implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri 27 Medan. Metode deskriptif kualitatif digunakan oleh peneliti dalam penelitian ini. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan peneliti dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Dalam wawancara yang telah dilaksanakan oleh peneliti, terdapat problematika yang dialami oleh guru dan siswa yaitu terbatasnya pemahaman guru Bahasa Indonesia terhadap implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka, kendala dalam membuat modul ajar atau perencanaan pembelajaran dan sarana prasarana kurang memadai yang mengakibatkan proses pembelajaran dan Implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka di SMP Negeri 27 Medan kurang maksimal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri 27 Medan sudah mengimplementasikan Kurikulum Merdeka sejak tahun 2021 sampai tahun 2024 sesuai keputusan dan pengesahan yang sudah disahkan oleh Pemerintah. Namun dalam mengimplementasikan Kurikulum Merdeka masih terdapat beberapa problematik, pihak sekolah dan tenaga pendidik terutama guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia berusaha agar pelaksanaan Kurikulum Merdeka berlangsung sesuai dengan tujuan yang akan dicapai. Solusi yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengatasi problematika implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka yaitu: menggunakan pendekatan diferensiasi, mengikuti pelatihan, sosialisasi, workshop, memahami pedoman yang jelas dalam pengembangan Kurikulum Merdeka, meningkatkan kreativitas guru dan peserta didik dan mengoptimalkan sumber daya yang ada seperti melengkapi sarana dan prasarana.
