Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the Influence of Collaborative Writing Technie on Students’ Writing Skills in Essay. The objective of this research is to know and describe the influence of Collaborative Writing Technique towards students’ writing skills in Essay. The method of this research was conducted by using quasi experimental method. In collecting the data, the writer used writing test. In analyzing the data, the writer used formula. Based on the result, the writer found that the average score of student’s writing skills on essay in experimental class was higher than control class ( = 67.5 > = 60). Based on the data analysis by using formula that was higher than (3.64 > 2.00 > 2.66). Therefoe, it is concluded that there is an influence of Collaborative Writing Technique towards students’ writing skills in essay at the fifth semester of English Department of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. It means Collaborative Writing Technique is an effective technique which can be implemented by the teacher to improve students’ writing skills, especially in teaching essay.

Abstract

This paper is part of the writer’s dissertation entitles, “The Development of Instructional Materials for Improving Students Speaking Skills at Elementary School.”This paper is aimed at describing English language instruction (ELI) at elementary schools in Bandar Lampung, especially on teaching speaking.  This paper is written based on the qualitative study conducted by the writer in elementary schools in Bandar Lampung. The study involved English teachers and students of elementary schools in Bandar Lampung. The data collecting method used in this study were: (1) classroom observation, (2) interview, (3) questionnaires, and (4) documentations.  The classroom observations were focused on the instruc­tional features that the teachers employed in the classrooms and the students’ activities in learning speaking. He also observed the phenomena such as classroom interactions, the teacher’ activities, the students’ actibvities, the students’ motivation in learning English, and the problems encountered both by the teachers and students in developing students’ speaking skills. Questionnaires and interviews were used to know the problems encountered in teaching speaking at elementary schools. To know the actual problems encountered by students, the writer distributed questionnaires to students and interviewed them from different elementary schools in Bandar Lampung.The study shows that speaking instruction at English language instruction at elementary schools in Bandar Lampung has not been conducted well.  It happened because of some factors include: (1) lack of materials for speaking instruction, (2) the English teachers have lack of self confidence in using English when conducting instructional activities, (3) lack of students’ motivation to speak English, and (4) there is no speaking test for summative test.

Abstract

Lots of students find the difficulties when they have to put their thoughts into writing. Moreover, when they need to do the proofreading and editing their own writing, this inevitably makes writing exceptionally tiring and distressing. In this study, researchers focused on a series of writing processes, especially editing and proofreading activities. The objective of this research was to find out the influence of Peer Editing online technique towards the students’ research proposal writing skill and to know and to describe whether the effectiveness of the students’ research proposal writing skill who learn through peer editing online is higher than those who learn through conventional technique. The research was conducted by using a quasi-experimental design with pretest and post-test. The population of this research are the students at the fifth semester of English education major at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung that consisted of 63 students in 2 classes. The sample of this research were two classes, they were as control class and experimental class. Control class was taught by Individual writing while experimental class was taught by peer editing online technique. In getting the data, the researchers used writing test. The result showed that based on the calculation, the researchers got that = 5.41 and = 2.00 and 2.66. It means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. From the result above, the researchers state that there is an improvement and a significant influence of Peer editing online technique towards students’ research proposal writing skill.

Abstract

This study discovers a case study using a Zoom video conference to teach English to English Department Students (N=70) in STKIP-PGRI Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. This study aimed to uncover students’ perception of video conference activities' enlightening benefit and determine if Zoom improves writing ability. During the first semester, the instructors conducted 16 meetings in the Zoom conference, including materials and exercises to explore the writing subject. This research exposes the effectiveness of Zoom as an educational platform for teaching English. The researcher utilized open-response questionnaires as a qualitative and quantitative research method consisting of pre-test and post-test to evaluate the students’ writing ability.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the English language skills of fourth semester students majoring in economic education for the 2021/2022 academic year at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. The problem raised in this study is whether the use of the supplemental teaching method can improve English language skills and student motivation. The method in this study used a classroom action research design which was carried out in three cycles. The results of the study can be concluded as follows: first, the increase can be seen from the average score of 58.93 in the first cycle, to 67.6 in the second cycle, and increased to 86.70 in the third cycle. The increase in the average value that occurred was 19.2%. Second, increasing students' ability in English is also followed by changes in student learning behaviour in a positive direction. Students become happier, more active, and give a positive response to learning English.

Abstract

In the pandemic era of Covid-19, the students must study from home through online platform. One of many new platforms used by the students during such pandemic era of Covid-19 was Zoom. Zoom is a cloud based application for video conference. Consequently, as one of many schools that cannot conduct offline learning, STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung also used online learning. This research wanted to understand how online learning affected the STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung students, regarding their academix achievement. The researchers used Cluster Random Sampling as a sampling technique to get the research sample. This research used questionnaires to collect the data. The questionnaires were given to and answered by 23 students from the second semester in STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. SPSS, consistency analysis, static analysis, and regression analysis were used as data collection technique and analysis. The results showed that Zoom can be used as an alternative educational platform, and this platform was an appropriate educational media at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. The researchers concluded that STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung students had a clear understanding and were ready to learn English using Zoom in the pandemic Covid-19 era

Abstract

In this part, the writer would like to explain about the Effectiveness of using picture books media towards students’ vocabulary mastery and to know and describe the average score of the students’ vocabulary mastery who learn through picture book media. The method of this research was conducted by using experimental method. The population of this research was the students at the first semester of the eighth grade at MTs Negeri 1 Bandar Lampung 357 students in 10 classes. In this research, the writer got VIII A as the experimental class there are 33 students and VIII B as the control class there are 33 students. Intaking the sample, the writer used random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the writer used multiple choice test to measure the students’ reading comprehension. Multiple choice or objective response is a form of an objective assessment in which respondents are asked to select only correct answers from the choices offered as a list.In analyzing the data, the writer used .After analyzing the data used formula. Based on the result, the writer found that average score of student’s reading comprehension in experimental class higher than control class (). It means that, Picture book media were successful to increase the students’ vocbulary mastery. Then, the writer also concluded there is significant influence of picture books media towards students’ vocabulary mastery at eighth class of MTs Negeri 1 Bandar Lampung. It was proved by the result of calculation by using formula that was higher than ttabel ( 3.75> 2.00 > 2.66). Therefore, picture book media is an effective strategy which can be used by the teacher to improve students’ vocabulary mastery.
