Abstract

Several remote sensing methods using satellite imagery and acoustic instruments have often been used in mapping aquatic ecosystems but expensive and need hight expertise. This method used in this study is quite new in mapping aquatic ecosystems, but has often been done in mapping terrestrial areas. This method produces clear high-resolution digital data using optical devices with high efficiency. This research was carried out in Pulau Matahari, Kepualauan Banyak, Aceh Singkil for 3 (three) months in the field and 2 (two) months of data processing. This research data is in situ primary data taken by taking optical images continuously from the surface of the water by swimmer using a waterproof digital camera and then processed with PhotoScan software. The results of this study are high-resolution digital image data that can be used to make seagrass ecosystems map at the study site, assess ecosystem status, identify seagrass species ( 4 species), density (St1:103,9 ind/m2 and St2:128 ind/m2) and seagrass cover (57%– 61%).

Abstract

Snakehead (Channa sp.) was one of the superior freshwater fish species native to Indonesia that has been successfully domesticated. The increasing demand for snakehead fish on the market has resulted in the addition of cultivated land and water use. Aquaponics technology was a combination of fish farming and plants that grow without soil media. The aim of this research was to determine the best composition of probiotics that can be used in aquaponic technology to optimize growth rate and feed conversion of snakehead fish (Channa sp.). This research used an experimental method. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design with four probiotic combination treatments and each treatment was repeated three times. The results showed that awarding of different probiotic compositions in the aquaponic system resulted in a spesific growth rate that was not significantly (P>0.05) different between treatments. The highest value of spesific growth rate were in the treatment of probiotic composition of Lactobacillus casei and Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a value of 4.11%/ day. Awarding of different probiotic compositions in the aquaponic system results in significantly (P<0.05) different feed conversion ratio values. The best feed conversion ratio values were in the treatment of probiotic composition of Lactobacillus casei and Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a value of 1.78. The conclusion of this study was the composition of probiotic Lactobacillus casei and Saccharomyces cerevisiae was the best probiotic composition to increase the spesific growth rate and feed conversion ratio of snakehead fish.

Abstract

Most of coastal waters of West Sumbawa are wave-exposed areas. As part of Alas Strait this region is located between Lombok and Sumbawa Island. On the land and coastal areas, mineral mining (i.e. gold) activities are operated massively by large private company (i.e. PT. Newmont Nusa Tenggara) and traditional mining by local communities. These activities (especially for traditional mining) are expected to increase the content of heavy metals in the marine and coastal waters surrounding. A residual of mining processing will produce heavy metals disposal. In this study, the distributions of heavy metals (i.e. Hg, Cr6+, Cu, As, Ni, Zn, Pb, and Cd) were measured in the water column and bed sediments of coastal waters of West Sumbawa. This study was conducted during dry season in July 2011. The results show the heavy metal concentrations in water column were mainly within the permissible limits (based on Keputusan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup No. 51, 2004). Except for Cu, the concentration was highest found on most of the stations. The heavy metal contents in bed sediment were low, but varied among sampling points. Furthermore, Cu content in bed sediment also found remarkably high (101,7 mg/Kg) with additionally Zn content was closed (10,6–105,5 mg/Kg) within the permissible limits (based on criteria by Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council – ANZECC, 2000).

Abstract

Humpback grouper requires suitable water quality for life whether physics, biology, or chemistry aspect. The purpose of this study is to determine the physical indicators, chemical parameters, and the appropriateness level of waters for potentially conducting fish farming activities of Humpback grouper by employing floating cage in waters of Bay Rigaih, Aceh Jaya District. Researcher conducted the study from August to September 2016 and employed survey approach. Determining the location of the sampling point is by using purposive sampling. The sampling coordinates recorded with the Global Positioning System (GPS). Based on data from research sampling, The results show mean value for each physical parameters such as: a). The depth is 9.5 m; b). the brightness is 3.7 m; c). water temperature is27,66 oc; d). The current speed is 20.25 cm/sec. Samples of some stations show mean values of chemical parameters such as: a). DO is 7.65 mg / l; b). pH is 7.59; c). salinity is 38.75 ppt. The High level of appropriatenessfor humpback grouper farming was shown at station 4 for every physical and chemical parameter, so itconcludesthat station 4 meet the criteria of quality waters for the development

Abstract

This study aimed to determine feeding habits layur fish and composition of food eaten by layur. The study was conducted in september to october 2016. The method used in this research is survey method. The result showed that the types food of layur are small shrimp with a percentage value of 35%, then a small fish with a value of 17% and pulverized fish with a value of 48%. Frequency of occurrence type food obtained is 44% pulverized fish, small shrimp 37% and the lowest percentage of appearance food is small fish by 19%. IP value of small shrimp at 35% and the lowest part small fish by 9%, and then RLG of layur acquired intestinal length relative 0.91, intestinal length 32 and total length of 35 cm. Based on the value of RLG is less than 1, then the layur (Lepturacanthus savala) is a carnivorous (carnivores).

Abstract

This technology is known as bioreeftek technology. Bioreeftek  is  a  technology  developed  by  the  KKP  Research  and  Observation Center (Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) in the past few years. This research will examine the number of coral recruitment in coconut shells as natural artificial substrates in 3-5 and 8-10m depths. The coconut shells module composed of 9 pieces consisting of 3 modules installed 1 coconut shell each pole, 3 modules installed 2 coconut shells each pole, and 3 coconut shells attached 3 coconut shells each pole. Retrieval of coral sapling data for about ±4 months. Data is taken directly (in situ) by looking the number of juvenils attached to each substrate. The results obtained show the attachment of two genera of juvenil namely acropora and pocillopora at each depth. The highest number of attachments is found in modules that have 3 shells in each module. The best depth for juvenil attachment is at a depth of 3-5m.

Abstract

West Sumbawa regency located in West Nusa Tenggara Province is potential areas for seaweed cultivation like Euchema cottonii. Currently, the center of seaweed farming activities located in the Gulf of Kertasari and Poto Tano. Market demand for commodities of E. cottonii tends to be increase, and therefore new areas of cultivation are required to be developed, through a study of physics, chemistry and biology of marine aspect is needed to assess the farming area suitability. The methodto determine the suitabilityarea is using GIS (Geographical Information System) analysis. The resultshowed thatPoto Tano District has 805 ha of suitable area for cultivation. While, Taliwang and Jereweh District consist of the area about 70 ha and 86 ha. Total land suitable for the cultivation of seaweed approximately 961 ha.

Abstract

Barnacle (Amphibalanus spp.) density and distribution implemented in September-November 2013 in the port of Dumai, Riau, which aims to explore the causes of inequality in the spatial distribution of density Barnacles (Amphibalanus spp). in different media attachment were influenced by marine environmental conditions in the port of Dumai. Barnacle density observation method in this study is the stratified random sampling method using wood, fiber and iron as a media attachment. The results showed the existence of inequality Barnacle density (Amphibalanus spp). on the media attachment with different types and colors. The highest average Barnacle density was found in colorless timber, which ranges between 265-506 ind/m2. While the lowest average Barnacle density was found in white fiber and it ranged between 25-68 ind/m2.
