Abstract

ABSTRACT             The title of this article is “Linguistic Varieties in Economic and other Registers”. This article tries to analyze ad discuss about the meaning of words varieties used in register of Economics that can be also used in other registers. Many words in register of economics has specific meaning, which are only used in economics section, but in other side, those word can be also used on other context of situation. The words of economics register were taken from the economics articles or business magazine, in Jakarta Post Newspaper and Bali Advertiser magazine.             The analyzing of Language Varieties in Economics Register focuses on the following points of problems: (1) the meaning of words varieties that are used in Registers of Economics. (2) The varieties of words in Register of Economics that can be also used in other Register. In analyzing the language varieties used in register of economics, this research applies the sociolinguistics theory, taken from Peter Trudgill (1974) in this book entitled An Introduction to Language and Society as main theory. The theory is supported by other theories that are considered relevant to the topic of discussion in this article.             Based on the result of the research and analysis, it is found that are two kinds of words used in register of economics, they are common words are the word usually used in common situation and specific words are the words used in specific situation. Besides that, the word in register of economics can be used in other registers such as: register of culture, register of politics, register of medical, register of education, register of engineering, and register of government’s affair. Key Words : Context of Situation, Register and Economics. ABSTRAK Judul artikel ini adalah ” The Kinds of Language Varieties Based on The Context of Situation Used in Register of Economics”. Artikel ini mencoba membahas dan amnganalisis tentang arti dari variasi kata yang digunakan pada register ekonomi yang juga dapat digunakan pada register lainnya. Banyak kata-kata dalam register ekonomi memiliki arti yang khsus, yang hanya digunakan dalam budang ekonomi. Tapi disisi lain kata-kata itu juga dapa digunakan dalam bidang yang lain. Kata-kata tersebut didapat dari artikel-ertikel ekonomi atau majalah bisnis di Jakarta Post dan majalah Bali Advertiser.             Dalam menganalisis variasi kata yang digunakan dalam register ekonomi fokus dengan beberapa masalah; (1) Makna dari variasi kata yang digunakan dalam Register Ekonomi, (2) Variasi kata dalam Register Ekonomi yang dapat digunakan dalam Registe yang lain. Studi ini menggunakan teori yang diambil dari Peter Trudgill (1974) dalam bukunya yang berjudul  An Introduction to Language ad Society sebagai teori utama. Teori ini juga didukung oleh teori-teori lainnya yang masih berhubungan dengan topik.             Berdasarkan hasil analisis dan penelitian ditemukan bahwa ada dua jenis kata yang digunakan dalam register ekonomi yaitu common word adalah kata-kata yang selalu digunakan dalam situasi yang biasa sajah, dan specific word adalah kata yang digunakan dalam situasi khusus. Disamping itu, kata-kata dalam register ekonomi dapat digunakan dalam register-register lainnya seperti : register budaya, register politik, register medis, register pendidikan, register mesin, register kepemerintahan. Abstract

The aims of this study is to find out and analyzed about students’ influences of Computer-assisted assessment (CAA) It is the case study and field research of one school in Nusa Dua Badung-Bali. The data sources chosen in this study were several high schools that carried out online examinations at Nusa Dua Vocational high school Bali-Indonesia. Data collection is done by random sampling from data sources, observation, interviews, recording, and note taking. Distribution of questionnaires was also carried out to strengthen data analysis. Data is analyzed based on the formulation of the problem and the study of theory that has been, then analyzed in qualitative description. The descriptive study used paper-based surveys and interviews for data collection. To obtain information about the students’ influences of Computer-assisted assessment (CAA). Based on our review and study result, there are some influences that found. The Computer-assisted assessment (CAA) systematics is held with the aim that students become more critical and independent in solving the questions given.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the meaning of the directive illocutionary speech acts used by Native Speakers and Non-Native Speakers in teaching English at the Denpasar Children Center School. The data sources of this study are the utterance of native speaker and non-native speaker. Data obtained by using observation method with uninvolved conversation observation technique and record techniques. Data containing illocutionary speech acts then analyzed descriptively qualitatively based on theories of speech act proposed by Searle (1969) and Leech (1974) about meaning. The results showed that the directive speech acts used by native speakers and non-native speakers were requirements, requestives, questions, prohibitive, permissives and advisories. The meanings of directive speech acts spoken by native speakers and non-native speakers are analyzed from the context of the conversation. The meaning of speech acts for the native speaker tends to be connotative and sometimes contains affective meaning. Whereas the meaning of speech acts of non-native speaker tend to use a combination of connotative, denotative, and affective meanings.

Abstract

This study investigated the student’s attitude during distance learning at SMP Angkasa Kuta - Bali. The impact of the corona virus outbreak (Covid-19) has also been felt by the education sector. Studying at home is a good way to break the spread of the corona virus. Distance learning is carried out with the supervision of a teacher and parents. This is what distinguishes distance learning from independent learning. In distance learning activity, one of the way to communicate each other is by sending text message. Most of the students are not accustomed to use written language well in formal communication. This activities requires them to text the message word by word to their teachers. Studying attitude in language helps all stakeholders in various ways. This can investigate effective student attitudes with the teacher using good language. In addition students can be confident, learn politeness in language with different learning styles. Students have their own language attitude in communication. In addition, they also have diverse views about the learning process. The data sources chosen in this study were the students of SMP Angkasa, Kuta-Bali. The analysis is done by descriptively method. To make the analysis clearer, all of data were completed with explanation and supported by the cart to show percentage of the data. The theory from Richard, Platt, & Platt (1992) about Language Attitude used to analyze the various kinds of language attitudes. This study used questioner to get some reason of the language used by the students as well.  This study found that there are two classifications of language attitudes used by students in communication using written language. Both Language Attitudes of students in terms of their Behavioral and Language attitude in term of their emotional are found. Based on this classification, student prefer use negative language attitude in their respond to the teacher. The reason why some students prefer use negative language attitude in their respond to the teacher have been found by the result of questioner.

Abstract

The research is aimed to analyze the maxims violations committed by students of the English study program, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Mahasaraswati Denpasar University. All speakers and interlocutors may not understand well the intent and purpose of utterance. Some utterances may contain different aims and objectives from the statement or question of the other person. To determine the suitability and misunderstanding of speech between listeners and speakers, Grice (1975) has initiated a theory of cooperation principles by classifying them into four types. This research is a qualitative descriptive study by collecting data by observation, note taking and recording. The result of this research is violations of maxims have occurred in students' speech. The four violations of maxims were found here. Students violate the maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance and maxim of method. The most dominant violation of maxims is a violation of the maxims of quantity.

Abstract

This program aims to give English training to Educator at SMP Angkasa, Tuban-Kuta, Bali. In general, the priority problems faced by educators in SMP Angkasa are the low quality of spoken and written English communication in understanding English vocabulary which is often used in the learning process. This is due to a lack of mastery of English vocabulary, lack of understanding of English theory, and lack of motivation to improve their English language skills. Besides that, most of the educators at SMP Angkasa are educators from various disciplines, so mastering English for them is not a priority.  The training is focused on providing material on how to communicate well in transferring learning materials to students by communicating in English. Enrich the vocabulary that is often used by educators in the implementation of the teaching and learning process. This community service activities uses methods in the form of application of science and technology with an orientation towards providing English language training and training in communication skills through lectures, demonstrations, and questions and answers. From the English training given to educators at SMP Angkasa, it can be seen that the progressive progress of the trainees towards the use of English for oral and written communication. The progress in communication is evidenced by the use of English when delivering material in class. Furthermore, the ability to listen to the simple spoken conversations of the trainees has also increased, which can be seen during the training. Teachers use full English as the language of instruction during training and trainees can carry out the instructions given at that time well. Finally, there is progress in the ability to read and write simple information from the trainees. This is evidenced by the teaching material prepared by the training participants which is compiled in English and then discussed with the students in their respective classes also in the language of instruction is English.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analysed the Instrumental Motivation of English online learning during pandemic covid-19. Teachers and learners must be consistent in carrying out learning in special conditions nowadays. A teacher has very important role in fostering student motivation to take part in online learning, so the failures in the process of transferring knowledge to students can be minimized. This research is quantitative and descriptive qualitative study to examine Instrumental motivation in online learning during pandemic covid-19. The random sampling was used in this study. The questionnaire was used as an instrument in this study. The questionnaire consists of 12 questions as a test of instrumental motivation which is divided into three different types of questions such as: academic motivation, individual motivation and social motivation. The responses obtained from the participants were classified into five categories according to Gardner's Attitude and Motivation (Jefiza, 2017), such as; strongly agree, agree, doubt, disagree and strongly disagree. It was found that the motivation of students in online learning conducted in class was to finish on time. The total mean of academic aspect is 3.61 at the moderate level. Meanwhile, for the personal aspect, it was found that the value for the total mean of the personal aspect was 3.69 at a high level, and the mean of social aspects on instrumental motivation was 3.89 at a high level. It can be shown that, the students still have high motivation in taking online learning even during the pandemic covid-19.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampingan belajar kepada siswa-siswa Sekolah Dasar Insan Mulia pada masa pandemic covid-19. Virus Corona merupakan salah satu kondisi krisis saat ini yang sedang mendunia. Tingkat penularan yang tinggi menjadi salah satu faktor keresahan masyarakat di dunia. Pada masa pandemi tentu menimbulkan berbagai masalah-masalah dari berbagai kondisi, salah satunya adalah dalam bidang pendidikan. Berkenaan dengan hal ini, para orang tua serta siswa kurang memenuhi kebutuhan pembelajaran dikarenakan proses belajar jarak jauh yang diterapkan oleh pemerintah tidak dapat berjalan dengan maksimal. Terkendalanya masalah teknis serta gawai yang kurang memadai berdampak pada kualitas kegiatan pembelajaran yang kurang efektif. Maka dari itu perlu adanya pendampingan belajar terdapat siswa terutama Sekolah Dasar Insan Mulia Jimbaran. Kegiatan pengabdian ini menawarkan program pendampingan belajar siswa melalui program Fun English Learning. Melalui program ini siswa, guru dan orang tua mendapatkan kebermanfaatan mengenai teknik dan metode pembelajaran yang tidak membosankan sehingga mengurangi perasaan psikologis siswa yang jenuh selama mengikuti pembelajaran online atau jarak jauh selama ini. Kegiatan ini juga menghasilkan modul dan video edukasi pembelajaran yang dapat dimanfaatkan siswa, guru dan orang tua walaupun program pendampingan ini sudah berakhir sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai sumber belajar dikemudian hari.

Abstract

Abstract: This research examines the form of implementing the local wisdom ideology of Tri Hita Karana in preventing and overcoming the spread of the Covid-19 virus in Bali. The central government, through its policies, has dealt with this epidemic, both at the central and regional levels, including in Bali. In addition to implementing the policies of the central government to prevent and cope with this outbreak, Bali itself attempts to make use of its ideology in dealing with the pandemic. This local ideology is known as Tri Hita Karana. The problem raised in this study is how to implement the ideology of local wisdom in preventing and overcoming COVID-19 in Bali. The purpose of this research is to understand the implementations of local wisdom in Bali that useful in preventing and overcoming COVID-19. The method used is the empirical method, data collection techniques with interviews, questionnaires, and literature. The theory used is structural functional theory, social change theory which supported by concept of local wisdom. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of local wisdom in Bali can effectively and efficiently prevent and cope with COVID-19. An interesting finding of this article is precisely when local wisdom is Tri Hita Karana implemented on a daily basis to deal with Covid-19. The beginning the standard was Prahyangan, Pawongan and Palemahan, however, in this implementation it changed to become Pawongan, Palemahan then Prahyangan.
