Abstract

Toddlers are vulnerable groups that must be considered especially the fulfillment of nutritional intake. Balanced nutrition in infancy plays an important role in increasing human resources in the future, but malnutrition in infancy affects the growth and development of children's brains that are irreversible or unable to recover. The problem of malnutrition is still a major problem in Indonesia despite the many efforts and prevention programs that have been made. This study aims to analyze the determinant of toddler nutrition status in farmer's families in Halilulik Health Center Belu District in 2019. This research used an analytic survey with a cross-sectional design. The sample in this research were 94 toddlers who were in the Halilulik Health Center Community. Data analysis used was univariate analysis, bivariate analysis and multivariate analysis with chi-square and multiple logistic regression tests. The results of this research showed that the variables of mother's knowledge (ρ=0.032), level adequacy of energy (ρ = 0,000), level adequacy of protein (ρ=0,000) and history of infectious disease (ρ=0,002) have correlation with Toddler Nutrition Status, while families food processing habits (ρ=0,739) and families eating restrictions (ρ=0,617) did not have any correlation with Toddler Nutrition Status. The dominant factor that most influences the nutritional status of toddlers is the level adequacy of energy followed by the level adequacy of protein. Nutrition toddlers have less levels of energy and protein intake compared to toddlers with good nutritional status. Consumption of foods that are diverse and varied needs to be considered, especially foods that are sourced with energy, protein, and fat to reduce the problem of malnutrition in infants.

Abstract

The nutritional status in the first 1000 days of life is very important. WHO and UNICEF recommend that newborn babies should only be breastfed for at least six months, so that babies can grow and develop optimally. The recommendation has been applied, but the failure of exclusive breastfeeding still occurs. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of exclusive breastfeeding of not working mothers in the work area of Oesapa Public Health Center, Kelapa Lima subdistrict in 2019. This is a quantitative study with cross-sectional study design. This research was conducted in the work area of Oesapa Public Health Center with a sample of 61 babies. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test and multiple logistic regression tests. The results showed that the variables of mother’s knowledge (ρ= 0,001), mother’s trust (ρ= 0,024), family’s support (ρ= 0,000), and health care provider’s support (ρ= 0,028) are related to exclusive breastfeeding, but mothers’ age (ρ= 0.257) and information exposure (ρ= 1,000) are not related to exclusive breastfeeding. The factor of family’s support (ρ= 0,001) and mother’s knowledge (ρ= 0,005) had the highest correlation with exclusive breastfeeding. The mothers' level of knowledge also had a major contribution to the success of exclusive breastfeeding. To achieve exclusive breastfeeding success, mothers need support from the family (especially husband) and complete information from health workers so the mothers’ knowledge can be improved. The health centers need to utilize various health promotion media to increase the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Stunting is a health problem in Indonesia, with the prevalence of stunting in children under five reaching 30.8%. Stunting is a condition of failure of growth and development of children under five due to a lack of nutritional intake for a long time. Stunting is caused by the provision of food that is not following nutritional needs so that the child grows too short for his age. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the incidence of stunting in the working area of the Palla Community Health Center, Southwest Sumba Regency. This type of research was an analytic survey with a case-control study design, carried out from December 2020-January 2021. The sample size in this study was divided into two, namely 48 case respondents and 48 control respondents. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate. The results showed that variables, namely parents' income level, mother's education level, mother's level of knowledge, history of infectious disease, and consumption pattern, were associated with stunting incidence (p-value<0.05) in the working area Palla Community Health Center. Therefore, an active role from families of children under five, especially mothers, and the role of health workers in stunting prevention efforts is necessary to curb stunting.
