Abstract

Bali grapes are a source of antioxidants with high flavonoids and anthocyanins, which have many health benefits such as lowering cholesterol and anti-cancer, inhibiting aging, and protecting the heart. Many people consume Balinese grapes by eating directly, drink in the form of juice or extract form because of its benefits. The purpose of this study was to determine the sub-acute toxicity of the ethanol extract of bali grapes (Vitis vinera cv. Alphonso lavelle) to changes in SGOT and SGPT of male Wistar rat liver. This test includes a sub-acute toxicity test and a pharmacological effect test. This research is an experimental study with a completely randomized design using a post-test-only control group design. The number of white rats used in this study were 24 rats, which were divided into four groups of control groups, groups of mice given ethanol extract of bali grapes 0.3 g / ml/kg BW (P1), groups of mice given ethanol extract of grapes bali 3 g / ml/kg BW (P2), and the group of rats that were given 30 g / ml kg BW (P3) of ethanol extract of bali grapes. Each group consisted of 6 white male rats. In this study, the grape ethanol extract was presented orally once per day for 28 days. After 28 days of treatment, Wistar rats were euthanized, and blood samples were taken through Chantus Medial Orbitalis and then put into non-EDTA tubes. The blood sample that has been centrifuged and becomes serum is then inserted into the Eppendorf tube, which is used to test the levels of SGOT and SGPT. The results of the One-Way ANOVA analysis on SGPT levels in the liver of rats showed a significant difference (P <0.05), so that further analysis was necessary using the Duncan-test. Based on the results of the analysis using the Duncan Test, changes occurred in the P3 treatment group of rats given the ethanol extract of Bali grapes at a dose of 30 g / ml/kg BW, which was significantly different from the control treatment group (P0) so that the mixture of these materials was included in the class of materials that were practically non-toxic.

Abstract

Ultrasonography is a rapid and non-invasive method for assessing internal organs. The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in ultrasonographic imaging of internal organs between green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and olive ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea). This study used two female green turtles (C. mydas) and two olive ridley turtle (one male and one female) (L. olivacea) with body condition index ranging from Average-Very Good. Micro-convex transducer ultrasonography with frequencies 4.5-8 MHz was used in this study. Acoustic windows were used in this study from cervical dorsal, cervical ventral, cervicobrachial, sinister-dexter, axillary sinister-dexter, prephemoral sinister-dexter and postphemoral sinister-dexter. The necropsies were performed to provide reference data. The results of ultrasonography imaging showed that the jugular vein of the olive ridley turtles (L. olivacea) was wider than the jugular vein of the green turtles (C. mydas). The ultrasonography imaging also showed that the stomach of green turtles (C. mydas) was smooth folds but the stomach of olive ridley turtles (L.olivacea) was sharp folds according to necropsy. There were no differences in the heart, stomach, liver, small intestine, large intestine, and kidneys. Vitellogenic follicles ultrasonography imaging was found from the olive ridley turtles (L. olivacea) which had shown in the period of premating and mating.

Abstract

Aspergillus sp are fungi that commonly caused a systemic respiratory infection in Human and Dog. In Bali, most of the dog are free-roaming dogs, and has poor skin health condition. Some of them are suspected with fungal infection. Aspergillus sp has high risk to infect the dog, because they are available everywhere in environment. Therefore, this research is conducted for adding primary data of Aspergillus sp isolated from dog’s skin and their prevalence. The samples are 15 free-roaming Bali dogs with suspected fungal infection. Identification was carried out by using microscopic and macroscopic observation methods, skin swab was taken from the dog’s skin using the Mackenzie method, and the sterile toothbrush swab gently from the dog’s skin to the Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) media. The fungi were cultured on SDA media for macroscopic identification for approximately 3-4 days, mostly to observe how the fungal colony grew and its color. Microscopic identification are using adhesive tape, the tape was gently pressed into the fungal colony, the tape was stuck into the surface of object-glass with 3-4 drops of Methylene Blue staining, and the object glass was examined by using a light microscope, the findings of Aspergillus sp fungi are recorded and the data are descriptively presented. The result shows that most Aspergillus species that were found is Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus niger according to their colonies growth and microscopic appearance, and the prevalence from 15 samples were 53.33%. Abstract

The increasing population of cats, makes the need for cat food also increases. BSF maggot cultivation is a trend in Indonesia, as for the products produced such as BSF maggot oil. BSF maggot oil can be used as an additional supplement because of its high protein content. Several studies have shown that the Black Soldier Fly maggot is an insect that is high in protein which is considered to be able to meet the protein needs in the body. This study aims to compare the leukocyte profile in cats fed traditional diets and cats fed commercial feeds with BSF maggot oil added to both feeds, and to determine whether BSF maggot oil affects leukocytes in cats that consume them. The study used 24 samples of cat blood aged approximately one to three years. Furthermore, they were divided into four treatment groups. The control group is a cat that is fed commercial food (P0), the first treatment group is a cat that is fed commercial food with the addition of BSF maggot oil (P1), the second treatment group is a cat that is given traditional food in the form of boiled tuna (P2), and lastly, the third treatment group was cats that were fed traditional food with BSF maggot oil (P3) added. The data from the examination were analyzed using the variance test (ANOVA), to see the effect between treatments, followed by Duncan's test. The results of this study indicate that the treatment of dry commercial feed and traditional feed added with black soldier fly magot oil statistically there was a significant difference in the values ??of neutrophils, eosinophils, and lymphocytes in the cat group (P0) with (P1) (P<0.05), but not there was a significant difference between groups (P2) and (P3) (P>0.05).

Abstract

Dermal carcinoma or skin cancer in dog is a skin cancer consisting of various types of cancer which are included in it. The tumor appears as a solitary, non-encapsulated lump, generally hairless, and occasionally ulcerated, which moves freely. The diagnosis is generally made through microscopic examination of a sample of tumor cells (biopsy). Dermal carcinoma cases are cases that often occur in pets but reports of these cases are still rare especially in Indonesia. The purpose of writing is to describe clinical manifestations, clinical course, and case prognosis. This case report was obtained from the Zoo Clinic Makassar. A dog "Pororo" came with the owner with a temperature of 38.40 C, had an enlarged mass in the medial part of the radius dexter, encapsulated, with an estimated diameter of about 6 cm. Physical examination was carried out, followed by laboratory examination found that the WBC level was very high and anemia. Handling of cases in the form of removal of the tumor through surgery and followed by histopathological examination with Haematoxylin Eosin staining to determine tumor development stage, degree malignancy, prognosis and therapy. The results of histopathological examination stated that the cells found were not uniform and lead to metastasis. The diagnosis of Pororo disease is carcinoma dermatitis but the type is not clear because the primary cells have not been found. The prognosis is infausta, the presence of metastases worsens the prognosis of cases, and it is possible that new tumors will reappear after removal. Handling for similar cases should be done quickly and precisely so that the case prognosis can be better.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the distribution and elimination of lead levels in various tissues of rats (Rattus norvegicus). The study used 32 rats which were divided into 2 groups, namely the control group and the group given 2.00 ppm Pb-acetate. Treatment by administering Pbacetat is carried out orally every day for 30 days (phase 1). On day 31 (phase 1), 8 rats from each group were taken their blood plasma for measurement of lead levels. Measurement of lead levels was carried out using the atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) method. Then the rats were necropsied and the liver, kidneys, spleen, lungs, intestines, heart muscle and brain tissue were taken for histopathological preparation. Histopathological preparations were made according to the hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining. The remaining 8 rats from each group were kept continuously for the next 30 days (phase 2), without giving Pb-acetate solution. This phase aims to determine the level of lead elimination from rat tissues. On day 61, all remaining rats were taken their blood for measurement of lead content. Then the rats were necropsied to take liver, kidney, spleen, lung, intestine, myocardium and brain tissues, the same as in phase 1.The histopathologically examination were categorized based on thehaemorrhage, inflammatory and necrotic lesions. The average of measurement result of lead content in the blood of rats in phase 1 was 0.27±0.06 ppm. Whereas the average of lead content in phase 2 was 0.12±0.03 ppm. This result showed significantly difference by variance of analize. Based on the tissue lesions, the liver, kidneys, spleen and lungs were the main tissues undergoing histopathological changes. Up to phase 2, the liver tissue still has lesions. It can be concluded that lead contamination in 30 days can significantly decrease in the next 30 days. Lead distribution can cause lesions in liver, kidney, spleen and lung tissues. But in phase 2, liver lesions were still found, indicating that liver tissue had the lowest elimination power compared to other tissues
