Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the effectiveness of the use of two stay-two stray in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text. This research was conducted to the eleventhgrade students of SMAN 2 Kuok in academic year 2016/2017. In this research, a quasi-experimental research with post test only was used by the writer. The samples of this research were class XI IPA 1 as the control group and class XI IPS 1 as the experimental group. The data were collected through post-test by using multiple-choice test items. The items are thirty question. Based on the data analysis of the research showed that the average students post test in experimental class were 75.44, and in control class has average students post test were in post test 71.12. So, the difference average is 4.32. The researcher used t-test, the results of the average test calculation (t-test) tcount3,63 and ttable 1,68. Therefore, concluded that there was a positive effect in learning reading comprehension of narrative text by using Two Stay Two Stray in experimental class at XI grade of SMAN 2 Kuok than control class.

Abstract

The t h i r d s e m e s t e r students o f Early Childhood Education Department of STKIP Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai Riau had problem in speaking E n g l i s h . The purpose of this research is to improve the students speaking skill and also to know the factors influence the students speaking skill. The participants of this research are 22 students of the third semester of the Early Childhood Education Department of STKIP Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai Riau. The research is classroom action research which was done in two cycles with four meetings. Each cycle consists of plan, action, observation, and reflection. The result of this study shows that using movies in teaching and learning English can improve the students speaking skill. Based on the data, the mean score of the students speaking skill as well as the increasing of the mean score of speaking skill indicators namely accent, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The average score was 60 in pre research, 66.3 in cycle I, and 71.4 in cycle II. The factors that influenced the students speaking skill are material, media, classroom activity, classroom management, teachers approach, and teachers strategy. It means, there is improvement on the students speaking skill.

Abstract

The problems of this research were how to improve vocabulary using comic and how to motivate the students to apply it in their d English. The research was guided by a conceptual framework leading to the using comic through peer work to improve their motivation to speak English during the process of classroom communication interaction. The research type was an action research. The subject consisted of 20 students of the third special class of SMA 1 in Rumbio jaya . The research data were collected using test (test after first treatment and test after the second treatment), observation for collecting data on the students’ motivation in improving vocabulary ability using series pictures. Data on vocabulary ability using comic were analyzed using the descriptive and statistic analysis, to know the improvement in mean students after the first cycle and the second cycle. Based on the first cycle, the students’ average was 67.8, then, on the second treatment, the students’ average increase to be 78.8. It can conclude that teaching vocabulary using comic can improve students’ vocabulary ability.

Abstract

The study is aimed to find out the textual theme meaning from the song lyrics. The problem raised in this research: What kinds of thematic meaning found in the song lyrics of “Always” by Bon Jovi?. To answer the problem, the researchers applied qualitative research. The content analysis method was adapted in this research. The method of collecting data, the researchers used documentation and literature study. The data source is the song lyrics of the “Always” song lyrics. The results of this research show that there are 64 data. The researchers finds four types are: (1) 33 data to Interjection, (2) 10 data to Causal , (3) 8 data to Additive, (4) 13 data to Adversative. The percentages in Always song lyrics are: (1) 51,56 % to Interjection (2) 15,62 % Causal, (3) 0 for Conditional, (4) 12,5 % to Additive, (5) 20,31 % to Adversative. This result of result is hoped to be useful for those who are interested in learning about functional grammar.

Abstract

This article was written to describe the study of the effect of the use of techniques pair check and initial knowledge of students on their writing skills in SMAN 1 Bangkinang that can be used as an alternative solution to the inaccuracy of the techniques used by teachers in teaching. The research is experimental penelitianquasi with a 2x2 factorial design, with cluster random sampling techniques. Acquisition datadari test prior knowledge and writing skills were analyzed by t-test and two-way ANOVA. The results showed that (1) the learning outcomes of students who were taught with techniques pair check is higher than the learning outcomes of students who are taught the technique of individual check, (2) students with prior knowledge of high-taught with techniques pair check to get a better result than in students are taught the technique of individual check, (3) students with prior knowledge Low taught the technique of pair check get better results than students taught by using the individual check, (4) there is no interaction between the two techniques and knowledge early on skills write.

Abstract

This research is aimed to analyse the slang used in the song lyrics by Billie Eilish in an album. Problems raised in this research are: (1) What kinds of Slang Words used in Billie Eilish on When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Album (2) What is the most dominant type of Slang Words in Billie Eilish on When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Album. This research used Yule’s theory (2010) about types of Slang Words. The method used in this research is qualitative method. Content analysis was applied in this research. The data were the album entitled When We All Fall Asleep, Where di We Go? After conductiong the data analysis, the researchers found six types of Slang Words in lyrics of Billie Eilish they are: Coinage, Borrowing, Compounding, Blending, Clipping, Derivation. The data were collected by listening to 13 songs by Billie Eilish and reading the lyrics of the songs. There were 159 Slang Words, 21 Slang Coinage, 1 Slang of Borrowing, 1 Slang of Compounding, 102 Slang of Blending, 30 Slang of Clipping, 4 Slang of Derivation. So, Slang Words is something good to learn

Abstract

Reference is one component for comprehending a reading text. This research employed descriptive method. The purpose of the research was to find out the students’ ability in using reference in reading narrative text. The subject of the research was twenty two students of fourth semester of 2015/2016 STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The instrument used to collect the data was in the form of multiple tests. From the finding, it was found that: (1) The students’ ability in using personal reference was in good category. They had problems in mastering personal reference which refers forward or cataphora reference (2) the students’ ability in using demonstratives reference in narrative texts was in good category. The problems occurred because they had limited vocabulary and lack of motivation. Thus, it can be concluded that the students’ ability in using reference in narrative text still needed to be improved because they still had limited vocabulary and lack of motivation.

Abstract

Learning model is one of the most critical factors in learning. To enhance the learning creativity and master the learning competency is, therefore, to promote the implementation of PBL by means of associating between the technology and the Malay cultural community. By promoting PBL, the students’ activeness and creativity is significantly increasing.In this model, the teacher purely acts as a facilitator and evaluator of the student’s worksand or products presented in the results of the project. By producing real works, the students are motivated to increasingly enhance their learning activeness and creativity. The purpose of conducting this study was to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of PBL learning model in UniversitasPahlawanTuankuTambusai Riau in efforts to increase the students’creativity in the Malay Culture’ subject matter. In conclusion, the implementation of the PBL learning model in Malay Culture’ subject matter can significantly enhance the students’activeness and creativity.

Abstract

Education is one of the most important things to prepare for future success in the era of globalization. Education can be achieved in various ways one of which schooling. According Suharsimi Arikunto (1997: 4) states that the education process there are five factors that affect the: (1) teachers and other personnel, (2) material, (3) methods of teaching and evaluation system, (4) a means of supporting and ( 5) administration system. The fifth factor in the school environment. Motivation is a condition which is owned by each student to bertingah behavior. According W.S. Winkel (1983: 29) students were already seated at SMA / SMK should be more influenced by intrinsic motivation, because the student already has awareness of the importance of learning for the future. But in reality there are still many students who have not been influenced by the intrinsic motivation. Based on these things, so that teachers have an important role to develop the intrinsic motivation. The motivation of every student was different, especially in terms of learning motivation is often called the motivation to learn.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the students’ speaking skill of procedure text at grade XI IPS 2 SMAN 1 Kampar academic year 2016/2017. The subjects of this research were consisted 31 students. The method of this research is descriptive method. Based on the data analysis of the research showed that the average of the students’ achievement at the XI Grade IPS 2 in speaking skill is 51. It is categorise in weak level. Furthermore, the students’ speaking skill of procedure text at XI grade IPS 2 showed that 9 or 29% the students could learning speaking of procedure text. Meanwhile, 22 or 71% could not understand of speaking procedure text. It is supported the result of the students’ speaking skill of procedure text is still low.
